Angry SOLD!!Unique 289-fia Cobrafest Champ

With great sadnesss I find that I must part with my Unique 289-FIA to feed my Porsche racing habit. This is the same car that was fastest in class AND FASTEST OVERALL at Cobrafest 2001--with one big exception: The car now has 120 more horses than it did when it won Cobrafest!
After Cobrafest, I decided that I wanted to go all the way and commissioned Southern Automotive to build a no-holds-barred small block. The car is now equipped with a new 347 stroker, solid lifter 420 horse screamer. Radical but Streetable(pump gas), all the best stuff, including Eagle rods, single plane edelbrock, full custom 780 double pumper, road race pan, Trick aluminum heads, custom original FIA valve covers, roller rockers etc. etc. NEW Tremec 3550, Centerforce clutch, Blowproof Bellhousng msd limiter, new comp aluminum radiator and oil coolers, custom aluminum intake liners all coupled to a Jag 4.09 POSI rear: serious acceleration off the line and good crusin' in fifth. Comp brakes, 5 point simpson harnesses and racing seat for track days, regular seats and chrome bumpers for cruisin. 15 inch Compomotives with BFG's for street, Hoosiers for track. Car is beautifully balanced and handles like it should.

Ready to win at Cobrafest again if you are up to it!

Engine/Trans are new, less than 900 miles on them and under Southern Automotive warrantee. Ceramic coated headers, and sidepipes, wind wings and visors,
Car has a total of 25,000 miles on it and is tight as a drum, paint shows typical wear from stone chips, not pristine, but very presentable as is. Car has been properly maintained by adult (nearly senile 0wner and I will miss it greatly. I have never heard a nastier sounding small block, and it goes better than it sounds!

Check my photo album for pictures , e-mail questions to rick@brownyardlaw.com Telephone 843-884-1658 weekdays. Car is located in Charleston, SC

Price: $28,950.00 OBO, Trailer available separately for $1,250.00

If I didn't already have one, I'd go for it. My wife suggested that we get a twin for her.

Not mentioned in the first post was the inclusion of an automatic fire-system (see photo in album). Steeda shifter (shown) and correct short cobra shifter. In response to the e-mails, although the chassis has 25,000 miles, the drivetrain is as new. Never hit or wrecked, no glasswork. The last drivetrain was changed out not because of necessity, but because I felt that I wanted the ultimate small-block car. When I went with the more powerful engine, I decided that a t-5 wouldn't be dependable so I sprung for the Tremec. The tremec, with the very tall overdrive allows me to use the low 4.09 rear and still cruise at low revs on the freeway. Nothing ever pulls a hole-shot on this car! If a buyer prefers, I will swap the automatic fire system for a pull type system I also have new in box. Buyer's choice.

Make an offer, car must go soon.

Thanks, Rick

Default Sold!!

I'm a bit conflicted, but my much-loved FIA is on its way to New Orleans with its new owner. I'll miss it, but who knows, maybe a GT-40 is in my future.

Thanks to all who called and e-mailed.

Rick

Heck of a good price, Rick, particulary with that powerplant. You should have no trouble selling it. A great buy for someone. You couldn't replicate that car for $40,000.

Cal--

Thanks for the kind words-- I was only able to sell at that price because I bought correctly in the first place and was able to unload some funny looking old carbs on some sucker at a race track in Bama------- It worked for the new owner and it worked for me. He's a nice guy and I think he's having fun with his new toy. Take care, there will definately be another cobra in my future, but I'm holding out for an original 289. I have great patience. Meanwhile, I'm going to race Porsches for a while.

Rick:

BTW, those funny looking carbs finally ended up on the fearsome Joe Traut Special--the dreaded terror of the Cobrafest Talledega race track. Good luck with the Porsche. Always good to hear from you.
