Do you mean real as in original, or real like a CSX4000 Shelby or a Kirkham?
If you want an original, try joining SAAC and inquire there. Also, a subscription to Autoweek might help as originals occasionally show up there.
There's plenty of info on the CSX4000 and Kirkham cars at either of their sites.

Thanks for the input. I'm thinking "real" as in 1962 to 1967, an "authentic" car. Mostly because I ASSUME that an authentic car will hold it's value better\longer than one of the "new" "original" CSX4XXX cars or the Kirkham?
I have looked at an add for a 427 CSX4XXX car with Alum. body for $129K. It's been for sale for some time and was recently "reduced" in price, not a good sign of the value? Or perhaps the market is not as strong for the "new originals"?

there is a 60s era street roadster real 427 on ebay right now, formerly owned by nicholas cage (and was listed earlier in the yr too, dont know if this is the new owner or prior owner). someone said that questionable history paramount studio car is also listed, but to me it was a 82 rebody on a stretch chassis so is not real in my book. real=built in the 60s. ebay is down now for weekly servicing so i can't check it) several pop up at the auctions ( maybe at this wknds auburn indiana auction ) and of course the upcoming january 03 arizona auctions( steele-rosso, r/m,barrett jackson). good luck. bill.

More info..
CSX3166 was offered for sale last December at an asking price of $325K
COB6132 is a new-bodied chassis that never saw California in the 60's...It's a nice car, but it ain't no Shelby Cobra. It has been for sale for ...like...forever.
(p.s. pics are the same ones used in last offering...seller must be a broker and not in possession of the cars).

The original Shelbys will always have a higher value than the new series. You should be aware that the values of the original 3000 series have also come down (in some cases significantly) in recent years.
I personally think the value of the new CSX4000 series Shelbys will be tied to what the original series do, ie..if the original cars increase in value the new series will go up also. If the originals go down so will the value of the new series.
Now is not the time to sell any high dollar car. But it is the time to buy one.

You might want to check out House of Cobras. They have original Cobras from time to time.

Wow, I was thinking a 1962 to 1967 original might be had for around $150K (a 289 slab side maybe?). Now it's sounding like that price would be a "bargain!" Nicholas Cage and $300,000 plus for the cars? Dam, I can't hang with that crowd! Man the Cobra market is brutal. A guy with $150K can't even play? Ha ha! No wonder the replica market is alive and well!

Ernie-
150-175k can certainly get you into a 289 street car....have heard of a few at that level this year.
...can't use 3166 as a benchmark; it's a nice 427 street car with celebrity fingerprints..so the asking price is up there.

Hey guys thanks for the feed back. After reading the posts about the "exoctic" prices of them 427 cars I was ready to just throw in the towel! But I see what you mean Computerwrks, there will always be some "exceptionally" valuable cars.
As this will be a kind of "investment" type of deal I will continue to research the market carefully and consider various opportunities.

$150K will get you a really nice 289. $130K is probably more like it. You might get a "beater" for $90K to $110K. Those deals are rare as most have been restored. I know a couple of guys with cars that are still unrestored, but they have owned them for nearly 30 years and have no interest in selling.
Bigblock cars truly are all over the board. As previously stated, add a dash of history or celeb finger print and look out. I have seen a 427 go for the ahem..paltry sum of $240K. It was an unremarkable streeter.
