Original Shelby CSX4000 Body

I am taking reasonable bids on this real deal Shelby American Body that can probably be adapted to any Cobra, The good thing is, The dimensions are spot on. This should be a no brainer for the kit buyer. make an offer,,,,,,,,,,

Excaliber 09-11-2002 10:46 PM

Fiber glass or what? And how would one acquire JUST a body from SAI? Whats that rumor I been hearing that SAI was "contracting" out for "bodies" because they couldn't make them as cheap as they could buy them? Does that make some of the CSX4000 series cars "replicas"? Ha ha, not to torture you over your sale. But, there are these rumors floating around............thought you might be able to shed some light on it all.

Don't want to appear rude here Steve, but without the chassis, how was a serial number given? Also, may I assume that is a Kirkham body sold by Shelby?

I might have an interest, but need to know more about it.

CSX 4027 09-11-2002 11:14 PM

OK Gents

All good questions. The story is that it was part of a deal I made with Shelby when the original body the car came with had some curing problems. I have the documentation and the body(Glass) does have the Shelby Logo imbedded underneath it in the glass.
-Not a real smoke and mirrors story. Just a real deal for the right guy..

Excaliber 09-11-2002 11:34 PM

I get it! That makes sense. I can see where that would sure it make it difficult when people ask "Is it an original?" or "What kit is it?" I have an Exclaibur (OK, would love to have something better, but Excal. IS a good car)! When people ask if it's an original, NO is the answer. Then it's, "What KIT is it?" Well, it's not a "kit" either, it's "factory" made.

Sure would be cool to have an SAI genuine body on a "kit" frame. Pull up a chair when they ask "What is it?" Ha ha, should be fun!

Whats your price range?

A Snake 09-12-2002 08:45 PM

Answered both of my questions. Thanks. Good luck with the sale. Somebody will very happy with it.

I was looking for an offer based on the fact that it does not have the hood doors and trunk which are available from Shelby. If you contact them and get a price on the extra's, I will take 30% - 40%off their price on the body whatever that is...

cobrakit66 09-13-2002 06:09 AM

LETS TALK SENSE AND DOLLARS YOU KNOW WHAT YOU GOT IN IT AND WHAT WHAT YOU GOTTA GET OUT OF IT EDUCATION AND MONEY ARE TO OFTEN WASTED ON THEGREEDY

He Yo Yo!
I am talking sense. 30-40% off Shelby's price is far from greed. I don't know what I have into it. It was part of a deal I made. Some people know a good deal and jump on it and others just stand there and watch it go by.

Specialk 09-13-2002 08:36 AM

Just as a FYI, I can't even buy a body and I work at Shelby. If you ever wanted a 4000 body, this may be your only opportunity.

Excaliber 09-13-2002 10:19 AM

Rare? I would think one of a kind opportunity! Not the deal for me, but a fascinating possibility for the right person.

no disrespect to csx 4027 who had an outstanding cobra before, now changed to a not as nice car by the new owner. but what do you get here ? a discount on a body that has to be custom fit to a frame of some other brand most likey. hood, trunk and doors are missing. no serial number so no provenance or heritage value. try to explain what the heck ya got when it is done, bits of this and that. now it is in storage somewhere taking up a large amount of space, not very saleable in present form to anyone other than another glass csx 4000 owner to replace a body that gets seriously damaged (doesnt happen often so odds are tough). this is a tough sell my friends. give the guy a break, let him get that thing out of storage and out of his hair, you in turn get a bargain body . seems fair to me. would rather be the buyer in this deal than the seller as it seems this could be owned AND STORED for a long time ! now, if you are doing track time with your car, especially a csx4000, this is a great spare to have 'at the ready' . this is a difficult sale. now the real question is: WHY WONT SAI OR ONE OF THEIR DEALERS BUY IT BACK FROM YOU ? seems it would certainly speed up delivery timing for any customer backlog ? just a thought . good luck sir. bill

Big post for such a trivial issue.
PS Isn't kirkham selling bodies to FFR in aluminum? They will also take some fitting. As a matter of fact most of the kit cars take quite a bit of fit work anyway with the exception of SPF and the others that come assembled. This is for the guy that wants the original shape for his kit car which only Shelby and Kirkham have.

Jeb 09-13-2002 11:14 AM

Really, I'd wonder why I got stuck with it too, unless I told SAI I wanted to keep it as a spare.

Maybe FFR would take it off his hands. Aren't they working on a Kirkham-aluminum-bodied version ($7K upcharge option). Maybe they'd like one to play with getting the frame and mounting points right?

Just an idea.

John McMahon 09-13-2002 12:19 PM

Why are you guys busting Steve's nuts?

He put a legitmate ad on CC with a SAI body at a discount. He is out of Cobra ownership and is selling what's in his garage.

I suspect this may be geared to folks already owning a CSX4000 (or the fabricator extraordinaires amongst us) and wishing they had a spare.

So....why not move on and leave this ad to those that have a wish to BUY and not CRITICIZE??????

Jeezus.

GeorgiaSnake 09-13-2002 03:01 PM

Thanks John - They needed that!

Some of these guys remind me of the old commercials - is it real or memorex............
