1965 Mustang Convertibl---SOLD
Any one looking for a clean rust free pony car? It is a 2 owner car (current owner has owned the car for 36 years) and is in great unrestored shape. Not show quality but very good shape. Owner wants someone else to enjoy the car as he is getting up in years and would like to see it go to a good home. 14K do sound to steep to me........rare thats it's original condition, might be worth the money for someone who appreciates that aspect.

methinks one would need more details...V8 ? if so, which one ? as V8's bring more $ than a 6. trans, auto or manual ? man, which one ? paint looks pretty color pure for 95k miles to be original in a sun baked climate, as the golds, silvers, silver blues, some reds tend to really fade in the sun...original except for repaint ? any mechanical rebuild history ? condition of top ? condition of seats ? any build sheet or invoice history to document paper trail and confirm car is now as it was built ? what are the options on the car (power top vs manual, power accessories, air/cond etc ?? the more factory toys the better the resale value ) no rust at all ? any damage/accident history ? i have my modified 65 Mustantg convertible and don't need another one, but the above is just the start of the questions i would ask if i was a buyer....price range for these cars varies so much based on the answers to the questions. I haven't seen too many 95K cars that are verifably original, rust free and clean.... this guy has owned it for so many years that the odds might be better to verifying that list of questions and paper trail of its background. just my $.02 worth...good luck. bill

The car does look nice in the picture but if it is all original as claimed I would like to know more about it also. As everyone knows you can make any car look good in a picture. And $14 K does sound a little steep to me unless he has a lot of factory or dealer options that were installed when the car was bought. I may send him an E-mail and see if he will tell me the whole history of the car.

289 not A or K code, the car was repainted over 25 years ago the same color, brakes were just done, top is in decent but not perfect shape, no accidents, valve guide seals were replaced and pictures of under car, interior and vin plate minus the last few #'s are below

Guys;
Granted you can not tell all by a photo,but if the description is accurate,the price is in the ballpark for this car......If you think 14k for a car like this is too much,then you have not been pricing classic Mustangs (especially ragtops) lately..... You may find them cheaper,but that is the exception rather than the rule in this condition.........

Your friends either going to be for a rude awakening, or he will find someone quite gulliable. The car is a plain jane, no option convertible....Need to have it's doors fixed (striker plate in the dataplate pictures shows the bolt on patch, meaning that it is torn away, or worse yet, fatiqued enough to need this patch, then repaint), suspension rebuilt(rear end sits low, leaf springs, shocks, assorted brackets, bushings, etc...all add up...More likely the front will need the same)...My last 66 convertible had PS and a power top, detailed engine compartment, and a third place MCA trophy under it's belt...That only sold for $14,000...Thye attention to detail of this car does not warrant the price that he is asking...Sorry to be so hard on it, but I do call them like I see them....My original posting and offer are serious ones, I still have to add in the repairs, repaints, and the detailing parts, along with the shipping back to NJ.....
Just my valid two cents worth on this particular car.......

I follow this particular market (65-68 Stangs) fairly closely myself. Maybe it's different in Hawaii? I think mrmustang is right on target for condition and price, 8K would be a "decent" price from what I've seen, not a "great" price.
14K will buy a NICE one!

From my observations over the past year the NADA is behind the times. Not just on this car, but most others as well.
Over all and in general the "used car" market is way down. Thats what I see, and unless it is a "special" car that general rule applies to all makes and models. New car financing/rebates is causing used car prices to drop SO fast, NADA and other "estimators" are not publishing fast enough to keep up, OR choosing to ignore TRUE market dynamics.
There is a LOT of 65-66 Stangs around, NOT from "dealers", just "local" folks. Maybe I should start buying them and shipping them to the mainland! $5 or $6K, in the paper, on a fairly regular basis here! I still think $8K is about right and NADA is day dreaming.
SpecialK,,,I understand their are some VERY good buys in Vegas. Do you think it would be possible to buy a 65-66 Stang in reasonable shape their for under $10K? Not THIS car, just a basic Stang. Just curious.

Guys, it all comes down to what someone is willing to pay.
I don't think it's a 14k car, but I wouldn't be suprised to see it go for that.

Right now there is a similar condition 66 Fastback with a 289 on the market for $15k, and the owner is certain he won't have the car long. I was constantly turning down $5k offers for my 66 fastback that was a 6 cylinder P.O.S.

Back in the early 90's when I was looking for a 65-66 Fastback to restore,I probably looked at 25 or more cars in Louisiana-Texas-Mississippi, from complete daily drivers to parts cars to rusted out junk....... The going rate for a complete 65-66 Fastback then 4k,needing restoration but all there,add another grand if you can crank the engine and move the car under it's own power.
That was ten years ago......Right now I know of 5 or 6 really nice cars,one original never been molested or restrored Fastback with about 75,000 miles on it,and you can not touch any of these cars for under $7,5000.00.....They are in good shape to start with and would make great cars...They do sell also.....The unmolested one is the one I want,but the owner really does not want to sell it or need to sell it right now..... The paint and body are in very good shape and the interior looks as if it is 5 years old instead of 38 years old.... It needs a battery and a little gas in the tank and you could drive this car home.....Oh well, I can still hope for the best.....
I have watched the market mainly for 65-66 Fastbascks and everywhere you see them advertised,they basically go for 12 to 15k for 2+2's to 15 to 18k for the hipo GT's,this being fully restored cars,ready to drive home.....I would think convertibles would be in at least this price range if not slightly more...... Personally I like the looks of the convertible but have no desire to own one,I prefer the Fastbacks to drive.....
Around here convertibles bring more than the Fastbacks and for whatever reason,you just do not see that many convertibles around....When you do see one for sale and it has been restored or is in great shape,get ready,if you want it you will pay dearly.....Do not know if that is the norm everywhere else,but here in the south that is what I have seen in the last ten years are so......

What is your opinion of the value of the following:
64 1/2 Mustang convertible (build date 6/17/64)
260 3 speed manual transmisson (might be a 289, but I think it is a 260)
power top
no ac
Bright blue (kind of looks like guardsman blue)
Pony interior
in original unrestored condition
Was a daily driver until 1975 and has been in a garage ever since. No significant rot, but has some bumps and bruises from being a daily driver for 10 years. Would definetely some body work and paint, but car is very solid and 100% complete.

Also include exterior condition, interior condtion, full options, describe the body work needed, detail the rust (look at the floors, torque boxes, inner and out er rockers, inner fender panels, battery box, trunk floors, trunk drop offs, and bottom of the doors for me as well.) Condition of the top, the mechanicals, and a host of other items will play a factor in to the actual price/value of your car....Also, note any and all rust, surface rust, flaking, etc. That, or email me offline with your phone number, and I'll be happy to come over and give you a market appraisal if your close enough to Rockaway.....

This is a typical morning newspaper list of Hawaii Used Cars. Often these are military personell vehicles and come from all over the country, personell ships out, car stay here. LOTS of cool cars come to Hawaii this way. When someone is "moving" excellent deals CAN be had as their departure date nears.
66 Stang GT, $5500, Nevada car.
