Autokraft AC Cobra Mk. IV - VIN# AK-02
This is the Continuation Series built in England, NOT a kit, it is a correct AC street version, no pipes, scoop and bar. This car is a real pleasure to drive long distances. When we bought it in San Diego, we were afraid that we would be beat to death trying to do the drive up the coast to San Jose in a day. We were pleasantly suprised.
I have driven and raced Replica Cobras and was amazed at how complient this suspension is, and how comfortable the ride is based on the components used. Truly a well built and mannered car.

History:
Vehicle AK-02, is the original #2 of seven, pre-production prototype Autocraft AC Mk. IV’s known as the “Chicago Seven”. AC registrars in England and in the U.S. have confirmed that AK-02 is likely the earliest known AC Mk. IV in existence, as #1 was reportedly destroyed during DOT testing. The car appears overall as originally portrayed in the March ‘84 issue of CAR & DRIVER.
The prototype Mk. IV’s were built in or around 1979 by Brian Angliss under license by AC Cars Ltd., using the same chassis jigs and body bucks and coach builders as the earlier 427 MK III’s. Classic Motors of Chicago imported them into the U.S., where they awaited DOT certification. The cars then went to Roush Racing in Detroit for drivetrain installation. A/K-02 has a "massaged" 351 Windsor engine with a Borg Warner T-5, 5-speed gearbox installed. This motor was a specially prepared crate truck motor, with polished and ported heads, extensive valve work, solid lift cam and an improved road race type
oil system, including a custom built
oil pan with surge baffles. The motor also has a port matched intake manifold with a 750-CFM Vacuum secondary 4 bbl. Holley Carburetor.
From there, AK 02 went to Ford engineering in Livonia, Michigan to have the suspension tuned. Ford Engineering, which helped with the introduction of the coil spring suspensions in the earlier Mk III Cobras, was responsible for this project. Changes there included the addition of a unique rear sway bar on this car for magazine test purposes. The car had a reported skid pad rating of .86g in street trim, over 1g with slicks.
