It seems my Hi-Tech roller is going to be on the way out of the country. I 'm back in the market for a 427 S/C . I'm looking for a max of $40K and prefer dark blue, BRG or red.
All ford ENGINE AND DRIVETRAIN! I prefer non-donor and 4 or 5 speeds.

Around Christmas Gr8 Auto on Boulder Hwy near Boulder Station had one [LA Exotics] for sale, albeit somewhat expensive considering the fit of the doors and trunk lid.... If it's still there, the price may come down a bit. 37,500.

Thanks,
The man who owns GR8 Auto lives down the street from me and Yes he is pretty high on ALL of the cars he sells on consignment.
Again this is the kind of response I expected , not like the previous one.
I was a member of the ZR-1 Net and several Hot Rod groups for several years and didn't see the "flame" thing that goes on in the "Cobra crowd". I'm not trying to insult anyone about the cost of their car, I just have a specific budget. I hope to find a CObra Replica and IF your particular car doesn't meet the criteria then don't answer.

Neil...you should be able to have the pick of the litter if you are proactive, in this market.
Each week I see 6-8 Cobras go unsold on eBay alone, not meeting reserve.
Just watch the end of auctions and send each unsuccessful seller a message with an offer.
Can't hurt...doesn't cost a cent to try.

Good Luck

Aren't we all! VERY few and far between. I've seen two complete nice cars in a year below 30k, both were donors.
Not meant to flame, or inflame, simply an observation. And yes, this is quite an angry bunch of people, a good bit of the time. Perhaps owning a Cobra helps them vent or drown out their chronic unhappiness.

Thanks for the info.
I guess I'm pretty bummed out right now about losing another one. It's a pain being the high bidder for so long and then having the car sold out from under you. I have met the reserve on the last two and Ebay says IF you are the high bidder and the reserve is met then you are under a legal contract. Apparently that doesn't go for the seller.

Try looking on Cobra Country . There are two 427 replicas listed for under $30K, and several more between $30-$35k.

I'm a VERY upbeat type person and strive to live by "The Golden Rule". I can't understand when someone tries to bring another person down without a good reason. Maybe I'm asking for the wrong thing due to ignorance. I thought that the 427S/C was just a wider more stable suspension (able to handle more HP) car than the FIA. I don't want to race this car, but after a ZR-1 Corvette, I'm still a HP and speed freak. Thanks for the reply.

Hello Surfer44,

Welcome to our obsession......The recommendation above to go to Cobra Country is good one... dealing in the world of the E-bay auction vs. an owner or builder that has a finished car in the price band you are looking will get you gratification sooner rather than later.

The cars you will find at that price will be good, well built FFR roadsters, Shell Valley and possibly older Uniques, Everett Morrison. These cars will typically be small block Cobras.

BTW since you are in Nevada you could stop into the Superformance dealership there.....I have seen used cars go out of there complete, licensed and in perfect shape for $35k-$38k a little higher than the price point you mentioned but, solves the donor issue.

Best wishes and Good Hunting,

Tony R.

A 427 s/c frame and suspension is a good set up. But, from the insurance thread posts lately, most/many/some of the ones below 30k are so crappily built as to be uninsurable home built messes that can go 120 mph. Not an ideal combination.

What you say? I see the same climate on the hotrod, jeep, vette, and 550 boards I browse. What got up your arse?
BTW, I have been watching the Cobra resale market for several years and I think that finding a nice resale under 30k should be easy. Check out www.cobraforums.com , those guys are FFR gurus and they should know where many nice FFR's are to be had.

edit: Just checked the "for sale forum" at www.cobraforums.com , and there are a bunch of FFR's availibe for under 30k. FFR has a good product and there are cars out there that are very well built and I would consider a great value.

Surfer - I did not go with a Factory Five myself(I assume that's what the reference to donor parts is), but I've seen many, many very nicely built FFRs at shows and Cobra events.

Like others said, it is tough to get a nice 427 SC for $30,000.
Just look at those photos.

Neil,

The cost of building far exceeds the amount that the cars are sold for. If you bide your time and raise your limit slightly I believe that you will be able to find what you want to a first approximation. You can expect to put a few more $s in it to get it where you want it. At present the market is soft for sellers. I bought my car 4 years ago, with 6,000 miles on a car rebuilt from the ground up. Updated parts, professionally rebuilt engine etc and I did not pay a lot more than you are currently budgeting. Such "deals" aren’t common but they are out there if you do your homework and are patient.

Good luck, Pete C

I like the idea of 30K max, but it is impossible to find all the things on my "list" at that price. I'll either have to modify my list or cough the extra dollars as I see it. $30 to $40K is more like it for what I want. There are Cobras out there in the mid 20's, as far as that goes!

351W (or awesome 289/302), 5 speed, IRS, stripe, 16 or 17 compomotive wheels or equivelant (5 lug bolt on), longer\wider than original, coil overs all around, 4 disc brakes, posi rear end, soft top (and the "list" goes on).

Donor parts? I take that to mean, "used parts" not rebuilt. If the "parts" are rebuilt by a reputable builder I consider them "new".

Neil,

Keep looking and don't get to discouraged. It is hard but not impossible to find a great Replica for under 30K. I know a man that bought one a year ago for $28,500 with a small block, Sorry Turk, and he has done nothing but drive it and clean it. So far he has entered it in three shows and won best of class in each show. But that is a rare kind to find. The owner was hurting for money and was just tired of cars. Good luck.

Ron

Talking Looking for a 427S/C

Thank you much for all the replies. I am getting great information from a lot of people. I have seen some of the cars from Cobra Country and I really don't want an automatic. There is a great car from Canada QB. but the shipping would be too much. The cars with the automatics are beautiful but I just love shifting and hearing the throaty sound of pipes when you gear down.
