I do believe (and guys correct me if I'm wrong), that the Ford 289 was the first American small block to run for 24 hours straight at over 100mph, establishing a world record in '63 or '64. Now that may not have been at 7,000 rpm the entire time, but it had to be turning some decent revs.
Obviously, you've been taking a lot of flak here, but hey, it's your car and you should do what you want. Just be prepared for the car shows and cruise nights, where people will come up to your car with a huge smile, then get a glimpse of the engine bay and just walk away shaking their heads. But you didn't build it for them, so if you're happy with it, then that's all that matters.

I don't take offense as I hope you also do not. These are awsome cars & from my viewpoint & opinion ERA being the in the mix for top of the heap. I am spending the extra money because I want the car with the correct lines, stance & overall look of the original cars. Being that as it is, if I were to lower my "Personal" standards & go with a car that was less accurate I may be willing to go with a SBC to power my car. I am not! Just my opinion

So eloquently (spelling) put as a rebutal. That is also a very good point and trust me i know about the flack. When my boss built a Ford mustage for his wife i harrassed the hell out of him (at the time i was building a 69 camaro) because we were both big chevy fans. I will take the flack but i figure eventually things will smooth over (I hope) and maybe they will even let me race in a couple events and not shoot out my tires as i round turn 9 at Willow. I guess i have always kinda been a Tech head. Cant help it

It’s not out dated it still holds true. Chevy has always been on top in the h.p wars. The new cobra can't keep up with a new Z06, and there supercharged. Even back in the day the L-88 vette completely destroyed the cobra in every aspect of racing. Granted they only made 20, and there are a lot more cobras but it was still faster. What I’m trying to say is, you can build a ford motor for twice the money, and have a nice quick car. Or for half the money you can build a 3rd generation Chevy small block, have a car that will blow the doors off of any ford small block. And you can turn the corner with out having to put $20 worth of fuel in the car, and still run 9's all day long.
But that’s just how I feel.

It won’t smooth over. What you have to understand is that for many, Carroll Shelby is an idol and the Cobra is a shrine. To put a Chevy, or even the incorrect Ford engine in it is, in some of their words, sacrilege, blasphemy, or heresy. It will be perceived as an attack on their belief system much in the same way Sinead O’Conner attacked catholics when she tore up a picture of the pope on SNL. The higher up on the scale of replicas you go, the more severe is your attack.
As is the case with many religious fanatics, there is only one right way and it’s their way. I don’t know if their intolerance is because you threaten them by not validating their beliefs, but I do know they will be the loudest when expressing their disapproval.
It’s a good thing CS wasn’t this type of person (an idol worshipper) or he would have built a fiberglass Ferrari replica in his garage instead of Cobras.

Well, good thing my opinion of organized religion doesnt affect my decision. Nobody is an idol to me, i guess that i am just too much of a realist (i.e. people are people and we are all human) and i understand that He did a great thing but i really wouldnt put it within the realm of sainthood. The car is awsome and if you guys like i will call my car a Henry Ross LS1 special LOL. you are probably right there will be alot people that will continue to give me flack but then again i was a bouncer while going to college and i seemed to weather there beligerance with a high degree of restraint. Furthermore i give props to Sinead O’Conner for her act. If it makes any difference i was considering a 351 efi but after i compared the two there was no camparison. I just prefer the better benefits "begotten" from newer technological advances. Oh what was CS building.... that was based on the corvette chassis?? If you want to get religious i guess you could say that "we are all CS children" (Mopar/viper Ford/CobraMustange and the Corvette chassis cars Name? . We are all brothers and sisters and one day i will have dream where little bowties and little blue ovals will play and interact in harmony. JK

Actually let me put ask this question (only objective answers please) is there anybody that can give me a sound reason not to put an LS1 in an SPF based on performance?? answers should address weight...cornering...cost..acceleration etc...

& those are the 2 differing views concerning these cars. We have the guys who love the cars for what they were & who want to uphold that tradition & On the other side of the field you have the guys who love the cars & want to see what they can squeeze out of them & don't feel that nudge of History pushing them in the back.
