FOR SALE: 289 Competition Cobra by Unique
FOR SALE: 289 Competition Cobra built in 2002 from a Unique Motorcars Deluxe Pallet Car. The car is new with less than 500 break-in miles on it. This is the seventh car we have built since 1990 and its attention to detail and originality is second to none.
Rear fender inserts were installed to give it the correct cut back door look as the original competition cobras had. The side exhaust was tucked more under the car to better replicate the original competition cars (this was done by Unique) and aluminum panels were installed in the engine compartment, nose and fender wheel wells to make it appear as if the body was Aluminum.
The car was painted Ford Bright Red by L' Cars Corporation of Cameron, WI (These guys do Pebble Beach stuff) and removable cling-on decals were applied for that privateer spec racer look.
The engine was built by Dave Adams of Cameron, WI. (He has built and supplied numerous racing engines all over the country for over 30 years) Engine specs include:
- 351W (406 cubic inch with the Eagle stroker kit)
- Edelbrock Aluminum heads
- 10.5:1 Compression
- Victor Jr. intake
- Biggs Performance 650 DP Carb
- Original style competition valve covers signed by Phil Remington
- Aluminum Radiator with Harrison tank
- Oil cooler with braided lines
- Remote oil filter with braided lines
- Dual Aluminum fans
The transmission is a 1965 Ford Toploader 4-speed with wide ratio gears. It was completely rebuilt with 90% new parts from David Key. Other drivetrain specs include:
- Lakewood bellhousing
- Hurst shifter with a Ford T-handle
- Drive shaft safety loop
- 3.54 posi Jaguar rear
- Carrera adjustable shocks front/back
- Unique's Brake Upgrade
- Trigo knock-off wheels running on BF Goodrich tires
The interior is black leather with a Competition dash layout using SW gauges. Other options include:
- AC steering wheel
- AC brake and clutch pedals
- Original style dash grab handle
- Heater tucked under the dash
- Cool air ducts to the footboxes
- Raydot mirror (dash and windshield mounted)
- Simpson 5 point three inch seat belts
- Hardware for soft top and side curtains installed
- Cobra floor mats
If interested please e-mail me at JeffKarnitz@MSN.com or call 715-878-4055. The selling price: $44,500.

To anyone hesitating about this car, don't. It is absolutely gorgeous and the finish work is top-notch. Jeff and the gang who built it can do Uniques in their sleep, and they surely know how to put them together correctly. I have drooled over this car more than once, and if I had the money it would be gone...

I had a hand in building this car with Jeff and his Dad, Ron. Very nicely presented with very few miles on it. It is, for all intents and purposes, a brand new car.
I can attest to the transmission having mostly new parts: synchronizers 1-2, 3-4; 2nd, 3rd. 4th. gears; input and mainshaft bearings; rear seal/bushing; cam seals, cluster bearings and shaft; tail shaft drilled for vent plug; case and tailed boiled out prior to reassembly.

Ditto to all the above kudos. I bought the car Jeff did before this one, and I can attest to the first class job he does.

Thanks Gary, Bob and Cal for all the great words. Attached is a picture of Gary's car shortly before I sold it. This car was also used as the 289 FIA poster car for Unique's wed site.

Silk:
You got a great car with Jeff's former FIA. We put a lot of work into that car and it finished very nice. Good enough to make the Unique poster car on their website.

Nothing serious yet... I have been playing with it a little. I am installing aluminum in the rear wheel openings as well. It looks pretty neat. I'll post some pictures after the weekend.
I plan on attending the All Ford/Shelby show this Sunday at Apple Valley, MN. Anyone else from the area going. I will be coming over with Cal and my Dad in his Cobra. Hope we have nice weather and a good turn out.

Jamvan -
The car is still available. Give me a call if you would like additional information. I can be reached at 715-577-9478 on most days.
Attached is a picture I took this weekend of the car without the dots. I personally like the dots on it, but the solid red looks nice too.

Here is a close up of the rear wheel and the semi-tucked under exhaust. I added aluminum inner-panels to the rear now as well. The photo doesn't quite capture them. I'll have to play around with the lighting and try to post some pictures later.

Here is a picture of the Biggs Performance Carb. These guys do a great job. I would strongly recommend them from product and service stand point.

Jeff, is that Phil Remington's signature on the valve cover? Hell, that ought to be worth a few hundred bucks alone!
