Lightbulb Looking to trade my 1994 Mustang Cobra Indy Pace Car cash for a Superformance Cobra

Hi everyone, I am looking to trader my 1994 Mustang Cobra Indy Pace car for a Superformance Replicar. I am looking to spend ~$10,000 (possibly more) + my car for a Superformance A.C Cobra. I am looking for a big block car (427, 428, 429, 460 etc...). I invite all car colors to contact me. I would like to get a SPF that is in nice to excellent shape, no raced or ragged out cars. I have many pictures of my car that I would be happy to send you via email. I live in New Orleans and would be able to deliver my car to you and pick up the SPF for a trade. Here is a description of my car: 1994 Mustang Cobra Indy Pace Car Convertible. Production #892 of 1000 cars produced, only 3,130 original miles, 2nd owner, Rio Red exterior, tan leather interior with Indy logos, tan top, Mach 460 premium sound stereo, 5 spd manual transmission, 5.0 L pushrod Cobra high performance engine (240 HP), power windows, locks, seats, mirrors and brakes, factory alarm, all original parts, no mods, adult driven, garaged kept, non-smoker, interior stills smells like new car, car is in same condition as it was on the showroom floor, rubber bumpers still remain on the original tires, mint, memorabilia includes: Original window sticker, Collectable sales brochure, Certificate of authenticity, Special Ford issue: Indy Pace Car hat, jacket, key chain, die cast model, collector pin set, and belt buckle. Please email me with any questions sroch@lsu.edu. Steve

Apparently a whole lot as Superformances are at least $40k min. I don't know what those went for new, but IMHO they aren't worth $30k now. Most of the pace car editions didn't fare too well with value.

,,,no ragged out or raced Super Performance,,,

Well I've NEVER seen a "ragged out" Super Performance, ever! I have seen some that were "raced", only makes them BETTER! Racing will show you were the bugs are, bring out the weak areas that need attention. Myself, I would prefer a Super Performance that had seen some track time. Just a thought.....

Ernie

Tyring to help here, not being "mean" in any way:

,,,,my guess, based on current values for Stangs and SPF's is 10K AND your Stang MIGHT get you a wrecked SPF at best. Highly doubtful you will find one for that kind of money/trade (unless it's really "ragged out", ).

I think you guys are being a little tough on Steve. I have been looking at '94 Pace Cars for quite some time, and you don't find any with miles this low for less than $20k. The asking prices for low miles stock ones are closer to $30k. They may not be getting that, but, as an ASKING price, it is not totally out of line.

I guess realistically, he might have to part with a little more than $10k difference for a big-block SPF, but that should be up to him and whoever might be interested in a trade.

Maybe I'm just a little too enamoured with Pace Cars - I've had 3 79's, and have always lusted for a '94. Good luck in your search.

regards,

Jeff Burgy

Cobra Jeff,

Interesting analysis. You think a big block SPF is worth 40K. What do you think your ERA is worth?

Maybe you should try trading for a Backdraft as they are about $26k without motor and tranny but they will not accept a big block.

I am not a collector of Mustangs but you will have a very limited pool of potential customers looking for a $30k 1994 mustang no matter how limited the production numbers. You should try to sell the Pace Car then go Cobra Shopping. Most nice FFR's sell for $25k to $35K depending on motor/tranny/paint etc. You can buy a nice backdraft with a strong small block for around $33k.

Jack Z -

I think you mis-read my post - or I didn't make it very clear. I was implying that I thought a small-block Superformance could be bought for somewhere around $40k, and that a big block would be more.

I have no illusions about my car - it is EXACTLY what I wanted, but is still worth a LOT less than what I have in it. I didn't build it to sell - I built it for me to enjoy it.

I just don't understand why so many people jump all over this guy for trying to get top dollar out of his car, and for looking to get a good deal on a SPF. That doesn't sound so outrageous to me.

Jeff

Jeff,

I guess I didn't get your idea on the first read. I know some pretty nice Cobras have sold in the mid-40K range in the last six months partly due to the economy and maybe partly due to the large number of Cobras available compared to five years ago. Honestly I'm not happy about that but the laws of supply and demand are pretty brutal and the market will saturate at some point. I do think a big block SPF is worth considerably more than the low to mid forties. Like you I got exacty wanted and I have a pretty good idea at what it's worth in today's market. These cars are not investments but they are expensive toys and can vary in price from one day to the next. I don't know if I will ever sell mine but I do hope I don't lose my shirt if I do at some future date.
