Tout said that "some may try and say that there never were any 4 speed KR's made", but that is not true as He has one. Value truly is what one is willing to pay for something. we already know that the original shifter is gone as well as under hood items. Have'nt checked the Cowl area or underneath yet either. these are area's that I am concerned with as I am interested in the car myself.

Hi Bill & Mike , now that we are on the same page ,I only know of a few of these cars that were built and most seem to be at the end of the 68 yr and also more than half were conv cars . It is important to verify all Shelbys , you can do this with SAAC. Make sure # match, by the way rear should be open w 3.25 gears if not changed. I still stick with my price for this car , not that someone might not pay more for this car .KR cars can be very costly to restore if parts are missing, starter delay ,etc, I will try to do some pix of my car so you have a reference to go by , never did this b4 so may take a few trys. Ditto what David said. Is that an all original car or a concours restoration Tout? What a beautiful car indeed!

Tout. What a magnificent car! Truly wonderful. #2466 certainly isn't at this level. However, that being said, it is a good original 2 owner car. David, what do you need to know about the undercarriage? I can get photos of the car on a lift of any parts or areas you want to see. I will post the oil cooler pics in a couple of minutes on the ClubPhoto site listed earlier. The cooler isn't green, but the wiring sure looked vintage to me. If you don't think it hurts the value, I'll have the owner remove the broadcast sheet and I'll get a photo of that, too.
See the link below. Thanks, Ernie!

On the under carriage it would be good to see a shot of the rear and make sure it has Staggered shocks. (AS all 4 speed KR"S had) What type/condition of the exhaust. Floor and Torque box condition as well. The car looks like a nice Driver that could be taken to the next level with a good amount of time and effort as well as some parts scrounging. It would also be nice to run a hose over the Cowl area and see if you get a wet floor. And really the most important thing of all......PRICE!! Do they want the car gone by Saturday or do they want to shop it around for a year like all the other over priced cars sit for? That is the real question at this point! CASH is KING!!

At this point, the owner is in no hurry to sell and doesn't need to sell it at all. However, she has no use for it and will sell it when she has determined a reasonable asking price and finds a willing buyer. I imagine she will come up with a price that will be fair and reasonable, but not the bargain basement deal that we would all in our dreams love to find. If it languishs at the asking price she sets, I imagine she will drop the price. This is a very nice car and I doubt it will take long to sell. It certainly isn't concours, but it isn't what I would even begin to call rough. The paint is beautiful, it is mechanically in outstanding condition. I imagine she will have a price set by the end of next week, and will most likely advertise it in the next SAAC newsletter and Hemmings.
Thanks for all the comments and suggestions. Everyone has been very helpful in assisting me to help this nice lady.

I want to apologize to those who are interested in potentially buying this car. My purpose in posting this thread was to obtain information and help regarding how to fairly price the car for the owner. I should have known several folks would be interested in buying it, but I didn't think that far ahead. I am not trying to jerk folks around. I don't own the car, and I am not selling it for her, just providing advice. I'll post here and e-mail those that are interested as soon as she has decided what to ask, provided she approves of me doing that.( I can't imagine she will have a problem with that.)

Jim, Could you

e-mail or phone me when she decides on a price. I only live a half hour or so from Greensboro and would love to take a look at the car. I would like a driver. I prefer the Jay Leno approach " I buy 9's and 10's and make them 6's and 7's" . E-mail Robginn@msn.com or 336-859-2155. Thanks Rob Ginn

Man I LOVE that Jay Leno approach!!! That has ME written all over it! I buy my cars to DRIVE, I ain't "saving" it for the next guy.

I bought my Excal with 8,000 miles on it, never "driven in the rain" blah blah blah.

It has 18K on it when I sold it. Drove it HARD and put it away wet! Started with a 9 and it left as a 7 (and me with an eternal GRIN)!

Looks like a nice car. She may be surprised at how much it is worth. Red, 4sp, A/C. A great combination!! The prices have really shot up within the last year. I have a black GT500KR, auto, A/C convertable that I am just finishing the restoration on. With prices so strong I will probably sell in 2004. She could not have picked a better time to sell. Good luck!

Ok, guys. I have now posted photos of the Broadcast spec sheet from under the dash of the car. It clearly documents the car as being originally red, AC, tinted glass, and< I think, a 4 speed. I don't know how to decipher the transmission code. Anyone that wants hi-res pics of the data sheet , e-mail me at jmaxw27408@aol.com Any help with how to decode the rest of the sheet would be appreciated. There are also new pics of the staggered rear shocks, which only the 4 speeds had. Owner still getting opinions on pricing.
Anyone have a spec sheet like this that can tell me what the missing words should be on the bottom of the page that says"UNIT"? What comes before that? http://members5.clubphoto.com/james337088/guest-1.phtml

Default A stab at setting value....

Don't know if the car is still for sale- but after doing a little home work, IMHO, I think this car is worth mid- low $70's and probably sell in the high sixties to the right buyer. Cors referensing with Menhiem, and NADA and others, they seem to confirm the value.

Here are three cars that have actually sold, nearest to this car I sould find:

Mean

In 2001 Barret Jackson Auctioned a restored "1 of 42 kr convertibles with a/c and 4-speed combination" The car was white and SOLD FOR $71,280.

High

In 2002 Barret Jackson sold this for $112k- "1968 1/2 , 428 cobra jet. one of the rarest and most desirable shelbys sought after. this car is red with saddle tan interior and equipped with air and 4-speed transmission. this car has been restored to try and meet mca concours specs, including all the hard parts, such as correct air cleaner, starter delay, heatshield, s-tube and smog. this car was represented to me by the previous owner as an original 42,000 mile car. upon looking, i firmly believe this to be true."

Low

on 4/9/03 Auction Ebay 68 GT500KR Conv 4083 Green 4spd went as high as $59,300 without meeting reserve. Description stated that it had AC- not known if it was original or not.

The car is a very desirable, repainted the original color and is a good original example that has been refurbished. I thnk the woman and the new owner would both be very happy if the car sold in the mid- to high $60's, even low $70's if she were patient.

If it were sale by a dealer- they would attempt to randsom it for $85k or more. Volo is tryng to sell a green on tan with 59k miles on it for $105K!

If she wants, she can start high and always come down.

Hope that helps!

-Patrick

Default RE: At these prices

I am not trying to advertise for these people, but I want to valdiate my opinion:

1968 Red Convert $88,499 REDUCED

White 1968 GT500KR Convertible 4spd w/o AIR $85,000 price also reduced

1968 Shelby Mustang GT500KR Convertible; S/N 8T03R211035-03908; Black/Black, Black top; Recent restoration, 2- condition; Hammered Sold at $114,000 plus commission of 6.00%; Final Price $120,840 -- 4-speed, 10-spoke wheels, P/S, P/B, correct smog equipment. SAAC National winner with excellent paint, interior and chrome. Nearly like new although the restoration is beginning to show some age and is no longer show-quality-sharp. The KR convertible is the cream on top of the muscle pony car milk and this 4-speed KR is the crème de la crème. The price is expensive, but the car is well worth it and the buyer can enjoy it, carefully and in moderation, with confidence it will sell again for this much or more when it is time to move on. -- Lot # 489, Kruse International, Scottsdale, 1/12/2003

How many more do I have to find?

Thanks very much for the opinions and sales data. This is NOT a convertible, however, and, therefore, I don't think comparisons to KR convertibles are particularly relevant to this car. Actual sales data on KR fastbacks (or whatever the correct term is) would be most helpful to determine the value of this car.

Default Not a convertible- oops!

Talk about seeing what you want to see

Well, in my even more humbled opinion, after doing a similar amount of digging on fastbacks-

Perhaps we are talking in the neighborhood of $57K plus or minus.
