CSX3210 427 S/C On Ebay
Gents:
CSX3210 is up for sale on Ebay. This was the car that my ERA was modeled after. Should be fun to see if it sells? I am not involved with this car... "I know nothhh...ink". Other than it sure looks alot like mine:p http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...ayphotohosting |
Geez,
It looks just like every other 427 Cobra I've seen???? I also will be curious to see if it sells... Red, I looked at your gallery and it looks Exactly like yours... :MECOOL: |
Looks
Looks to me more like a conglomerate of wrong detail and a car I would run from.
|
Steve ,
interesting observation....I looked at all the photos and couldnt see anything too obvious , I would truly be interested in the fine points you see out of place... KK |
KK, I was thinking the same thing. I'll guess:
It's a road car converted to S/C (like many...) Brake duct mesh ? Oil cooler fittings ? Chrome roll bar ? Quickjacks look chromed ? Hey, I don't know. It still looks pretty good to me ! I suppose if you're spending a quarter of a million on a toy, you'd want it to be better than pretty good... |
I didn't think an original could be detailed out wrong?
If it is an original Cobra, does it have to confirm to any contemporary conventions of how it is supposed to look like? I have looked at so many originals in the last few years and only thing I found that is absolute, is that they are all absolutely different from one another. I am sure Steve is amply qualified to come in and tell us what we are missing. I am all ears. TURK |
CSX3210 banjo's car
CSX4027,
As you noted, this is one of the Brian Angliss "rebodied" 427 UK 70's framed car from a destroyed/totalled original, remanufactured at Surrey in the late 70's according to my notes. The engine, tranny, VIN tag, etc, etc....and on have been replaced or added. Common of a COBRA totally wrecked in the 60's/70's and offered up as a collection of parts. Very few could if the had the extertise to rebuild one without AC Ltd's help. My file is based on attempted purchase of the "basket case" in '70. Still it's a COBRA Street 427 that was rebuilt as a SC thru documented parties over the years. It's probably offered at 50k under what it MIGHT bring. grumpy |
grumpy and csx4027..yep as you said, lotsa parts new on this car. the SAAC registry has a long list of history on this car, which has been overseas and back, thru a list of owners , including one as a dealer who wrecked the car crippling his friend. they have a long list of parts that have been on/off this car over time with various owners and semi customization, and the Brian Angliss rebuild. and that info was only as of the 97 registry printing so it is anybody's guess what has transpired on this car since then.. still, its closer to real and original than mine is ! bill

Just curious...
What, or how much of the car has to be original to be listed in SAAC registry? If, for example, a car was wrecked and had a new frame/body, by say Kirkham... could it still be listed as an original? Not trying to start something here, as I said - just curious. - Dan |
Karl
I addition to what was already said, notice the S/C wheel lips on the rear fenders. It's an all new car!! Probably the most origninal part of the car is the serial tag.
|
All legitimate CSX-numbered cars are listed in the Registry, without respect to percentage of original pieces. However, they are noted as such, with respect to crash-and-rebuilds or rebodied cars.
To be considered the actual car in the case of a rebuild, the frame is the determining factor for authenticity... if the rebuild was done on the original frame, it is still considered the same car. There are a few cases where "parts of the frame" were used as the platform and those circumstances are so noted. Further, the instances where the rebuild began with only a piece of paper are also so noted. |
Ron,
Thanks for the info; Makes an awful lot of sense that they base the status largely on the frame, (at least in the case of a rebuild). Thanks! - Dan |
Wow,
You guys have really got good eyes....:D....seriously ,I have got to get one of them SAAC books,..when is the next one coming out? It would be pretty hard to pay a 1/4 of a MIL. or more for a peice of history, and just get the sales slip...might just as well get a 4000 series. KK |
the individual car line registrars keep updated history, as reported to them by owners, on cars since the 97 printing of the last registry. it must be a monumental task based on the number of times some of the shelby mustangs change hands. they are getting ready to start soliciting updated info from owners for a forthcoming new edition. the book would be so big that they will break it down into car categories and thereby have several editions. i looked thru my saac pucky and cant find the exact details or timing that i read about some time ago, so some of this is fuzzy. the current book is still great reading though with much historical data on all shelby models that it is a good resource. if i stumble onto the official saac timing info i will post it unless someone else has the info. bill

Paper work is everything! An original car with barely more than a piece of paper and SAAC registry will STILL bring some big money! And in the market place would far exceed the "value" of a 4000 series car. Just my guess on that issue..........

Is the argument whether or not this is a Real Cobra???
EVAN!!!!!!!! A little help here.... |
From all that I have read over the years it is Accepted that if SAAC has it listed - [warts and all], it is a Genuine Shelby car.
As for value, that is now where the seller and buyer have to negotiate , just like a piece of Art, or a Race Horse , or a Show dog. |
Zu... there are a few in the Registry, as I remember, that are listed with the CSX number, but are explained in detail how the car has lost its authenticity over time.
|
saac identifies cars that have been destroyed or parted out, when known, with two asterisks , ie, **. they also indicate with a 'check mark' cars that have questionable histories or are suspect to be legitimate, for a variety of reasons. they then go into descriptive narratives as to why, however sometimes you have to read between the lines as their 'whys' can on occasion be guarded, i suppose for legal protection. bill.

I see that things that are acceptable with AC Cobras that are the kiss of death with other cars. Heck, with a Corvette, if the original engine is gone it is a considered by many to be a second class car.
