Huh?? Did you mean in this color, or with some certain options?? Last time I checked the registry, there were a bunch more than that. Maybe Sanderson Sales bought all the rest and turned them into GT-500E's???

HHHHHmmmmmmmmmm, I wonder what happened to the other 866 1968 GT500 Shelby fastbacks. I believe that your facts and figures are mistaken............(insert sarcasim here) But then again, what would "I" know about Mustangs and Shelbys..............

Hmmm? I will check, I have just read that somewhere...Perhaps registered 68 Shelby 500's?

mrmustang 12-09-2003 01:29 PM

In that case over 750 of them are currently registered with SAAC.

Hello,

You have mail :)

Dougster 12-09-2003 02:06 PM

Ok, I just checked, it appears that 178 left with Auto Tranny & orig. A/C option...Sorry for that.

I replied Unique!

Excaliber 12-09-2003 02:29 PM

I figured it was something like 178 with particular specs, like auto and AC.

I wonder how many automatics were made anyway? Doesn't seem like the kind of option one would normally want in such a car.

I agree that it is not a desirable option in a GT 500. Unless that is what you want. Mine is a 4 speed car. when I was "In the Hunt" I encountered many Automatic cars. Almost Settled for one, but Held out. I am glad I did. :LOL: I believe that 50% of the 68 Shelby mustangs were Automatic.

Dougster 12-11-2003 12:42 PM

I am sure with a A/C & Auto Tranny option it was sold to someone who wasn't into the 1/4 miles racing?
More of a exec car perhaps?

mrmustang 12-11-2003 12:43 PM

How about posting the full VIN and door data plate information here.

Bill S.

Dougster 12-11-2003 12:47 PM

Sure Bill, here is the vin #
8T025169113-00192

mrmustang 12-11-2003 01:41 PM

You do mean:

8T02"S"25169113-00192

Bill S.

PS: Are the Ten Spoke wheels original to this car?

Yes, looking at it again, I think its a "S"

Interesting! DaltonDavid: if an "S" indicates a GT390 what would the character be for a GT500? Thanks.

Dougster 12-12-2003 07:16 AM

Thanks for the interesting info David!

Ron61 12-12-2003 07:41 AM

Cracker,

I am no authority by far on the Shelby Mustangs, but I don't think there was a letter designating one as a 500. Shelby got the regular Mustangs from Ford and then they did the work and added the Shelby numbers to it. That is the only sure way to authinticate one. You have to take the Shelby tag number and the Mustang number from Ford and send them to the SAAC as they have the records. Also they won't be in any sequence. For example maybe the Mustang from Ford with sequence # 50 may be #65 from Shelby. When one of the guys finished a Mustang they just took the next Shelby number in line and since some finished ahead of others that kept the sequence from being in order. Also makes it next to impossible to clone one and pass it of as an original.

How do you love yours David? Thanks for that interesting info too!
No trades though guys...

mrmustang 12-12-2003 08:50 AM

"S"=390/428 1968 GT500
"R"=428CJ 1968 GT500KR
"J" =302 4V 1968 GT350
