Default looking to buy kirkham cobra

I'm sure you all know any available. I'm aware of the two in Hemmings...did the 289 just sell? A post on the main board appears to indicate it has. Is 100,000 a fair price for the other?
I found another car at http://www.specialtyauto.net/car_4054.htm
which is brand new and located close to me in Colorado...it is only
79,000. I really don't know enough about these cars bur I plan on going down to Provo ( I live in SLC) someday soon and visit with the Kirkhams. If anyone thinks these are great cars or deals, i'd be interested in any opinions.
thanks

ccr - KMP199 is brand new in a kinda NOS way. It was for sale "brand new" nearly exactly one year ago .....

http://www.clubcobra.com/forums/show...ghlight=kmp199

Such a beautiful, well-optioned car. Hard to imagine having the willpower to own a Kirkham for 12 months and not even take it for a cruise....

Maybe it's been in a museum or other display all this time??? There must be a good reason.

If the one in Hemmings that you are talking about is actually "Jenny's Cobra", and if it is still for sale. Buy it! I have very intimate information on that particular car. It IS worth every penny. Of course that's pretty easy to say for just about any Kirkham, but this particular one is rather special.

I feel that $79,000 for this type of car is reasonable. I am seeing a trend to leave the body unpainted on an aluminum car. What do other members feel about this idea? I have never seen an unpainted, completed car and would be curious to view one. I like the idea but wonder if eventually I would want the car painted. I have an aluminum car now and most people assume it is a fiberglass car. An unpainted aluminum car would sure put an end to those questions.
Also, very few folks are aware that there are aluminum replicas, they see an aluminum car and figure it is a real CSX car.

Let's take a quick run thru the Gasholes and see about finishes...

Turk left his first one bare, and his second one is really bare now.

Pat Buckley has polished his to tanker-truck specs

Jamo is bare (in more ways than one) with ghost stripes.

Toy Collector is bare.

Dano Semko is bare. (all the time, in the privacy of his home).

Allan (Ironman) has both cars bare.

Mine is bare, but temporarily..it will be painted down the road.

U-2 Driver is painted.

Both Tom and David Kirkham have bares.

The sanded finish does look cool, but it is far from maintenance-free. It does show fingerprints and tends to retain residue from moisture droplets. It does age nicely, though, if a vintage race look is desired.

Interestingly, most CSX4K alum cars that I see are painted.
Evan (surREAL1) has his painted, while Brett Bolte has his bare.

Another advantage to a bare aluminum car is being able to have it both ways.

You can drive it like that for a while. You can always paint it at a later date. This will give you a chance to experience best of both worlds.

Once painted, it will not be as easy to strip it, if you ever wonder what it must be like to have it bare.

It's also easier to remove those pesky little dents when it's unpainted.

I would definitely recommend the Kirkhams. Nice, knowledgeable and PATIENT guys that deliver a beyond top quality product. Also, their cars are not as expensive and the waiting list is not as long as one may think. Give them a call. Also stop by the Summit at their shop which I believe is on January 17.

I am painting mine and running the Goodyear race tires. I actually like paint chips, they add character.

Thumbs up

ccr2002

Yes the Kirkham 289 FIA Jenny car is still for sale, thanks for inquiring about this car, unfortunately I am the unlucky owner that has to sell the car, if you will notice there is allot of chatter about it, it is very hard to put a price on this car, like DV says it is worth every penny god bless him he has put allot of sweat and tears in the project along with several other volunteers. I am not sure which car you are talking about that sold for 100K, I did not see it on ebay, the workmanship on this car is unbelievable I have never seen anything like it, believe me if I ever get a chance to own another cobra I will defiantly save up and buy a Kirkham it’s a beautiful and closest you will ever get to the original and even better “from what I hear” I have never owned or driven an original.

The unpainted bare aluminum finish is the only way to go, the Kirkham team did a beautiful job on this one, it will be amazing how many more people will approach you asking about the history thinking it’s a real cobra, and then that gives you a chance to blab on and on and pass on the knowledge you have spent years collecting just for this occasion, so I am with the opinion of the majority stay with the aluminum finish (will that’s my two cents worth)

Please email me for any further questions

I would maybe buy KMP230 (for a discount of course) if it might ever be for sale. Just not now though, I think.

Fellow Car Nuts:

KMP199 is an outstanding car. Surely one of our finest. It was finished by one of our employees here who was quite pickey on finishing the car.

Then he saw one of our hybrids and traded the car in on a stainless chassis hybrid which he had custom made with extra wide rear fenders. The car looks killer with the wide fenders on the 289 body.

So KMP199 is now in our shop. I guess it is for sale, but we haven't really had time to think about it.

Lew,

Late breaking news:

Special new "BIG and TALL" modification coming soon--completely "bolt-on" and should be able to be retrofit to Jamo and like sized people. More news later.

ccr2002,

You are more than welcome to come by and see the cool sites. We have some really nice cars in the shop--brushed and painted. We have steel chasis cars, stainless chassis cars, 3002 cars, hybrid 289 cars, 289 FIA cars--just about anything you want to see.

You are welcome to come by and see the pictures of Jenny's car; it is a spactacular car and would be a great one to purchase. We can go over all of our parts and we can show you about everything that went on the car. That might help you to make a better decision on the car. (We didn't install the engine or transmission, though).

Let us know how we can help,

David
