WOW Paul has not a clue... PLEASE do some homework before dropping the word "original" There are many of us here who take pride in our replicas.

It occurred to me too that our thread starter was just "jerking chains" here. But, I decided to give him the benefit of the doubt of being "just uninformed."

I'm generous with my hard-earned lessons for those that truly need/want to learn. I've run across many of those here, and had some very nice off-forum conversations with several. Those are the honest ones, and I hate to see them turned off because this is a "tough" and knowledgeable group that can be intimidating.

However, he deserves the full fury of this group if we discover, as Tim said, "he's just draggin' a baited line."

11 pages? Ok, IF pictures are posted, but 15 pages if no pictures and no more posts from paul@lineback.

Paul, while I am fairly new to this community, I've spent about 15 years observing the replica industry. Assuming for the sake of argument that your original post was sincere, the colorful responses you sparked are based on recent history. When certain companies entered the Cobra market a few years back, there were some "interesting" tales about certain original parts, especially frames, that were supposedly found stashed in a backroom somewhere. These frames, as the story goes, were unused from the 60's, and when combined with other stashes of "original parts" were the makings of new old Cobras. While I have no idea where these stories came from, they were soon exposed as fanciful, to put it mildly. I think that many in the replica community, and most of the folks on this board, were deeply offended that anyone would think they were gullible enough to take such bait.

So, with that history in mind, you might appreciate the vigorous responses which arise when someone appears on the board, and, however innocently, attempts to float the story again. As my Dad would say, it stands out like a turd in a punch bowl.

Why is it all the good stuff is posted when I'm late to the party.

Paul, before you post any more supositions, get all of your facts without conclusions so someone can tell you what you have.

The "Frame Story" as I know it: Shelby claimed that he had "x" number of original frames still lying around that were never built.
He then went to the government trying to get MCO's stating they were 1966s and there fore exempt from the EPA and DOT requirements of today.

The answer was a resounding no. Have no idea what happened to all those "original" frames.

Now BILL you can speak! Tell me how far off I am on this.

DV...More Dramamine! Tomorrow is going to be rather rough.

Exclamation I Hate To Be Picky, But ...

Clayfoushee,

A CSX4000 is NOT A COUNTINUATION COBRA. Countinuation Cobras were serialized in the 3000 range (and Shelby sold them for $500,000).

Those were the "Oh, wow, look what I found at my Goodyear Racing Tire Warehouse!" cars Remember? If you don't, read the next post.

DV,

STG beat me to it. I'm got my money on a CSX4000 series, or one of the original "Found" CSX3000 series (not for street use titled continuation series cars). Either way you look at it, not worth anywhere near what an original CSX2000 or CSX3000, 1960's built Cobra is worth. We'll hold our breath just a little longer, then go from there. As for "all those frames", there were not many produced (by three seperate people), although, the "Completion cars" as they are now known as do hold some value, but nowhere near what an original "1960's built" CSX3000 series car would be at. As they say, a fool and his money soon parted when it comes to these (again) "not for street use" Cobras...........

Hey, Stan....

Correction... the CSX4000 cars ARE, by definition, the Continuation Cobras.

The cars that are serialized in the CSX3000 range are known as the Completion Cobras, the ones using up the unused serial numbers, etc.

Let's see what Paul can provide.

Back around 1989-1990,didn't AC made a car or two to 427sc spec (vs. MkIV spec) for use by Shelby in his "completion car" run, and Shelby thought they were too expensive at $150,000 each , so he declined them and went to Mclusky ?
