Bill, are you saying that all AC Cobra MK IV's were the street legal small block variety with the headrests ? I thought that some were made to SC specs and were simply too expensive for Shelby's tastes,so they started argueing about who could produce the Cobra and what it could be called, which I found humorous, as the situation sort of still exists today, 15 years later.
Johan, admittedly misconceived from the very beginning.

AC (Brian Angliss) did make some chassis for Shelby but they the had one of their bi-annual falling outs and CS started screwing the chassis together here in the USA.
There are not and never were "left over chassis" from the original production run. Angliss was quoted as saying that CS wanted him to build some unpainted frames "and leave 'em outside so they rust up a bunch and look old" or words to that effect.
I have personally looked at the production logs at AC and there are no unfinished chassis or cars shipped to the USA that are not accounted for, i.e. the Daytona Coupe chassis, the Paramount chassis, etc.
Personally, I think CS used up his "Mulligan" on this claim and now must be held to the same standards that any other public business must be.....like you , know....Enron or Worldcom!

P.S. - I am dismayed that this thread is only at 4 pages now....I would have thought at LEAST 10...

Angliss (AC) did make S/C spec cars to order. These were only imported as rollers due to DOT/EPA issues. Several were imported by Dave Wagner and others were brought in by individual owners. They had no connection to Shelby.
If I still had access to the AC/Autokraft logs I could list all of these but now that the Frimley works are back under the control of the Evil Empire (Lubinsky) you can bet I an "personna non grata" there

Thanks Rick, that's what I thought I read somewhere. Maybe the SAAC registry. I think they were rollers, not just chassis though.
$140,000 would be really steep for a chassis only, especially if it was rusty. Dave Wagner saw a dusty 427 sc spec car languishing in a corner of the shop at AC and at that time I thought it was explained to him that they were cars built for Shelby but were too expensive, and Wagner began to import them as rollers..

Gentlemen,
What we have here is an NOS Cobra (New Old Stock) .
Someone just started calling around to all the AC/Shelby dealers in the country buying up all the old parts. Finally after much searching he was able to cobble together an original built in 2002 of 1965 parts.

I think it was Spyderman that found a mid engine race Cobra in a field, so stranger things have happened, but maybe when they said NOS, they meant Non Original Shelby....
Before Evan gets on here though I better add that I think the CSX 4000 series are really nice cars, REAL Cobras even Evan.

Feeding frenzy
I am definitely book-marking this thread, so that when someone asks me for a definition of "feeding frenzy", I can just give them the URL.
C'mon - someone let just a few more drops of blood drip into the water..............Paul???

I want to take a moment to thank everyone in the group for their expirience and knowledge of the cobra!
I am not, nor claim to be a cobra expert as your postings clearly show my inexpirience in this field.
I mainly deal with exotics ferrari's,porsche, lambo's etc.
I am learning alot thru this site. And will continue to educate myself further through the help of the group.
Please take it easy on me when I post the pics and papers.
I've already gotten my ass chewed out by the mrs. this morning and there's not much left.

Paul, common courtesy should dictate that.
All you need to supply is the CSX number and a few pics or specs.
Our "chorus" will provide ample feedback, I'm sure.

Ron, thanks for weighing in on the completion vs. continuation dispute. Having done a lot of research, I was perplexed that everything I had read was wrong. Glad it wasn't.
It seemed weird to me that the 4xxx's that could somehow be referred to as "completion" cars, while the earlier 3xxx's were "continuation."

Clay,
Vice versa, the CSX3000 series cars (actually CSX3056 dated june 1991 with a McCluskey built frame) to present are the "Completion cars", while the CSX4000 series cars are the continuation cars...........

Thanks Bill. I know, that's what I originally said many pages ago, when I was trying to explain to our thread starter, but was contradicted by STG.

ok Guys,
I'm finally back to the office.
After looking at the car.
It's an aluminum body
And the plate on the firewall says mfg by shelby n.america
CSX 4289.
Does that mean it's a continuation car?
