Here we go again!!!!

NO, it is not real, but another of numerous recent e-Bay scams. The dead giveaway (in addition to the price), is that you're required to e-mail the seller to be placed on a "pre-approved bidders list." You will then receive an e-mail about how the car belonged to a brother or other relative who was killed in a tragic accident, the car is out of the country, and he's just trying to quickly dispose of the relative's personal effects. He'll ask the winner to wire a deposit out of the country, and your money will be gone.

At least 2 similar scams popped in the last few weeks, and were removed from e-Bay after people here notified them.

You may recall that in the last few months a wave of fake e-mails that looked like very authentic e-Bay communications, asking people to verify their account names, passwords, and other identifying info. People who did that lost control of their e-Bay accounts, and the lists are being sold to crooks all over the world. That's why the seller on these scams always appears to be an e-Bay member in good standing.

A mid range Contemporary went for @ $23K at Barrett-Jackson so this could be on the same level!

BTW, I reported this one to e-Bay too. I'm sure it will disappear within a day or so.

Guys, correct my if I'm wrong, but do the door hinges look like an FFR? Shape of the dash looks like it too.

Damn scammers are not only trying to rob us of our money, but missrepresenting the non existent COBRA as well!! This is getting out of hand!! As quick as you report them toebay, they have 2 more listed. they also usually have a vette for $11 K available as well.

This is one of the funnier ones. The hijacked seller, account name Packerwacko, established his e-Bay reputation by apparently doing a great job of selling and delivering Green Bay Packer trinkets on time, and as advertised. Looks like his "bobbleheads" were much in demand. Bet he never knew he'd be selling an actual Shelby Cobra on e-Bay....LOL.

Of course, our foreign scammer wasn't smart enough to figure out what a "packerwacko" was.

Perky Butt, External trunk Hinges, Shifter laying on the floor (as in no tranny), Door gaps at the top corner that are 1/2 in or more off. Yeah it's a CSX.

Hang on a minute while I get this monkey to fly out of my butt.

That is not a picture of CSX4226.

Forget the seller's feedback. It is another hijacked eBay account.

Remember the recent rash of phony emails asking for updates to your eBay account? This is the result of that email scam.... legit eBay accounts are hijacked for the purpose of deals like this.

Usually, the tip-off is a 3 day auction.

Good job, there, Clay.

At least we have a few watching the Cobra items on eBay, and can catch them early.

I sent an email to one of these jokers recently, inquire as to why they would be selling such a great car for $9,000. Here is the exact reply I got. My guess is that if anybody else questioned the seller of any of these cars you would get the exact same reply. Note how he never mentions anything specific about the car, so that the reply can be re-used without thinking about which fake car they put up:

Hello and thank you for contacting me

I will tell you a few words about the car..
First of all the car is fully restored and looks just like in the pictures. It is in imaculate condition and has no schrach on and hasn't been involved in any accident.
The motor runs very well. This is a clasic car that has a lot of the original parts and thr tires are almost new.
The title is clear ,it is not a salvage one.
The car belongs to my brother. He died two weeks ago in a bike accident.
The car is now in Denmark as my brother lived there.I am now here as i took care of the funerals.
Because i can't carry all his things back home i am selling them.
I am willing to sell it and shipp it to any of the UE countries or to US.I will not ship to any African,Asian or Eastern European countries.
I know that the price is low but i have no use for the car and I want to get back home as soon as i sell it.
I want to sell the car asap so I am willing to pay 25% of the shipping! fees nomatter of the location.
I require a deposit of 3000USD.The money is a reservation for the car.First one who makes the deposit will be the buyer.I need the deposit to be sure that you want the car and in order to proceed with shipping and all the aditional export taxes.
I wait your further questions and i will provide any infos you need.

Thank you

Regards

Not 1 minute after I posted the last message I got the scam email in my inbox. I must admit, it looks very convincing. I could see some folks who may not be up to speed on all of the scams going around actually filling out the info (userid and password) and sending it back. I guess anyone who actually sends these guys an email is giving them a known userid and email address, to which they can send the scam email. So, you may not end up giving them any money, but they may still get something out of you.

If anyone wants to see the contents of the email, let me know.

Darren,

Scroll up to the beginning of this thread. This has been going on for quite some time. And, you're right.....it's the same note every time, and it's not a good idea to e-mail these felons.

E-Mail response from E-Bay seller.
Sounds "real" familiar, yet another CONFIRMED scam.
Ernie

Hello,

I'm very glad that you like my Shelby and I can only say that you have good taste about cars! The pre-approved thing is just a way for me to not waste my time and just get deals with serious buyers .

I sell this car because my uncle left it to me and i`m not a passionate fan of these cars.I have I family car and this is enough for me.My uncle lived in US,the place where i was born so the car is registered in US and it has the title clear.

The thing is that almost 2 years ago, I made that step - I got married ! My wife is from Italy and we decided to move there.
Yes, I brought the car here in Italy.I had made this decision to sell the car faster only for $22,000 US. I only do this because i´m in bad need of money to pay some bank debts and i need to get the money very quick . Along with the car, I will send you all the documents that I have for the Shelby - the title(is CLEAR) (wich is issued in US, is clear of any leins and I have it in hand) and all the recipts from services.

All i need from you is to make a $3000 US deposit up front through Western Union ( i have an Western Union agent location next to me here in Italy) and the remaining balance will be sent to me upon receipt of the car .I asked you money up front for shipping and insurance.

Let me know if we have a deal.

Looking forward to hear from you soon.

Best Regards,

(the name was left blank)
