TB,
Didn't see the post you're talking about. Where was it?
FWIW, Ernie's an active member here from Hawaii (4000+ posts), and he posted earlier in this thread asking Stuart to contact him. Then we heard the seller had a buyer in Hawaii for $35K. Several people put 2 and 2 together fairly easily. Then Ernie responded here by saying "da shadow knows," when asked if he was the Hawaii offerer, and it certainly wasn't a denial.
As far as I know, Ernie's not a moderator, just an active CC member, and I won't comment on the ethics of either party......will just keep that to myself.
This is quite a saga.....

A "contributor", (little gold trophy next to a persons name indicates he/she is) has special powers that mere mortals (non contributing members) don't have.
SO,,,,,,, sure has been quiet around here,,,,,, to quiet.

Clay,
The post was between my "With my luck..." and my "Ok, who's slimier..." posts. There for a minute, then gone.
Ernie,
How did that happen?

So I ask the question again..
Who's slimier ...
The seller for accepting more money for the car..
or the person who out-bid me for the car?

that guy's screwin' you. It's worth much more than $11k. I'll give you $12k, after all, that's only fair.

This reminds me of a realestate deals for a homes in a very desireable neighborhood.
Price is stated and in the first week there are several offers for the house each higher than the next.
Good for the seller and good for the buyer if they want to pay more. Neither one is more or less slimey than the other for competing in a free market.

Wait! I just found out some unique (pun intended) history.
Wait! The next person that called offered me $11,001.37 and let me know that the VIN number that I have turns out that this was Carroll Shelby's very own car, not a Unique at all. It was stored in a warehouse and sealed in parafin for 37 years. It only has 12 miles on it (hence the number 12) (everytime I drive it I have to buy another set of meatballs)
In fact this one has the famous turbine engine that ran in the late 60's Indy 500. It puts out 2,500 horsepower. (although that is at the flywheel. Rear wheel horsepower after drivetrain loss is more around the 400-450 mark) It also has an 18 speed gearbox out of a Kenworth truck. Top speed is somewhere in the neighborhood of 721-723 mph, and it gets 52 miles to the gallon.
Well better go the phone is ringing......

The difference there is that the initial advertised price for the first house is honored. The next house goes higher, and the next higher still, etc.. Exact thing happened in my neighborhood. BTW.. I was the first to move on that deal as well. Home has tripled in price in seven years. Can't win them all I guess.

First, how do you get "Special" Status... Ernie?????
I have decided that if I ever sell my car, I am going to have the entire club sell it.
I agree with Bill in that if you are going to sell it for $25k, then do it. This isn't ebay.

Hhmm, Ernie's "Cobra Make and Model" information just changed, ever so slightly.
Nice car. I'm sure you'll be pretty happy with it.
So, should we call you "Dirty Ernie" now? (Quote: "I feel so dirty..")
Have fun!

JWheaton,
I agree with you. It is a free market. Until you have offer, acceptance, and consideration, it is not a done deal. On the other hand, if I shake hands with someone and say it's a done deal, it is a done deal, but that is just me.

you guys crack me up, money talks, bull**** walks, I've sold things for the asking price only to have the guy call me later to tell me for some reason he needed to back out, after I turned down 3-4 other offers, at least he let the first guy have a chance at his best offer, and I dare any of you to tell me that you would sell you're car for 25K if someone offered you 35K.

There ya go Ernie!!
Judging by your last post and the info under your user name it looks like congratulations are in order...maybe?
As too who is slimier, it seems like good old fashioned Capitalism to me. What is wrong with that? Seems to me that you were looking for a deal at $25k (which it was) and Ernie thought that it would be a deal at $35k(which it probably is) .
Before I bought my Contemporary I had made a deal over the phone with a guy trying to sell his 427 powered A & C that he had been trying to sell for awhile. I was going to trade him my '92 vette plus cash. Well, before the weekend came along when the deal was supposed to happen some guy showed up at his door w/$30k cash and....... I now have a Contemporary. Was I dissappointed? Yes. Did I blame him ? Not at all, We never shook hands or put it in writing, (if we had then I would have been pissed) he took what he thought was the better deal, period. I hold him no Ill will.
Congratulations Ernie I hope when it gets there it is what you hoped it is.
Have a good one,
Dan
