Had the car not "run out of gas" the night I looked at it, my posting might have had a different tone. Actually, I was going to wait until he brought it by for me to drive it before I posted, but the "no gas"/cold engine and escalating price had me suspicious.
So, Dirty Ernie, I inadvertently "helped" you. So, do I at least get a ride out of the deal? I'll let you know the next time I'm on Oahu! Maybe over a beer I'll tell you my harrowing story of saving a kid from drowning in the high surf off Ke'e beach in Kauai (two days after proposing to my wife on the Na Pali coast).

Ernie,
Jamo has a trailer, Turk has a boat. Maybe Turk could load up the car and "drive" it on over for you. (I'd love yet another story about Turk and Jamo's trailer!)

Ernie,
Since Dangerous Doug is within arms reach of your new toy I would think about having him (or someone else) give your purchase a once over before $$$ changes hands. That's unless you plan on flying to CA to take care of buisness in person. (That's the way I would do it.)
I too think the "out of gas" scenario is kinda fishy.

One of the Gasholes is picking up the car. What could possibly be safer than a bunch of Gasholes "test driving" the beast?
I hope there is still a little bit of tread left on the rears when their done.

It will be a while before I can get my hands on Jamo's trailer.
He may let me borrow the Mrs. but not the trailer.
I think we are pretty well done with the neigbors borrowing stuff bit for a while.
I need to find another trailer, closer to home preferably from someone who hasn't heard the stories.

Well Ernie,
Once the Gashole gets finished "evaluating" your side-oiler, perhaps you won't have to worry about it's condition anymore. Because, by the time it's running again, and in your hands, it'll be fresh out of a rebuild!!!!!
That'll give you a little extra time to arrange for suitable transport to the Islands.

Soon as I read that I got this mental image of a bunch of drunken wild men hanging out of the car flying down the road. Sort of a three stooges meets animal house sort of group. So just how many Gasholes can you fit in a Cobra?

Ernie,
Picked up your new ride and drove it 30 miles to my shop. YOU SCORED! The car runs great and everything worked. All paper work is 100%, he gave you a 2" binder with all of the information on the car. Well done! It hauls ass!

Allan, Allan, Allan... you had the PERFECT opportunity. You could have just as easily said:
"Ernie,
Remember back a year ago at the Knotts show in SoCal and there was this Cobra with a VW engine in the back? Well, you found it!"
The reaction from Ernie would have been MUCH more interesting!

Ernie,
That is really great news. It's nice to hear a good ending to this saga, after all the suspicions and other scams flying around.

LOL.....Turk. Is this an interesting place or what?
Here we have a one-time poster (who has arguably created a bigger stir than any other single poster in the history of CC), who hooks up with a veteran CCer (with "special powers" and gold cups and 4 gazillion credits to his CC name).
In a single day, the veteran decides to buy the newbie's car sight unseen, and low and behold, it turns out to be nice car.....go figure!? Only in America........
Respect, respect, respect has taken on a whole new meaning here.....

Ernie did a savvy buyers bid--I've done the same thing on real estate--desperation sale, undervalued, ????galore about the property. Won some, lost some, won more than I've lost at.
The buyer wasn't at fault, no one who contacted him put any money on the table at the 25K price, everyone wanted to "check it out first"---he got 2 offers, at least, for 35K, first offer backed out, Ernie won.
Was the buyer wrong not to honor the 25K asking price when he had an offer for 35K---not in my book, wasn't unethical to me, wasn't false advertising, it was a guy who was offered dollars in hand over maybe's---Be honest which one of you wouldn't have taken the 35k solid offer over the 25K that might or might not come through from a looky lou?
Only thing slimy I've seen is from those that arrived a little late while they questioned the authenticity of the seller, to put their $ on the bar--then *****ed about the seller and buyer cutting them out of a "deal".
Way to go Ernie --Allan says you have a great ride at a great price.
PS "Dirty Ernie" does have a certain ring to it

Man this was a FAST deal.
My Hats off to the Gasholes, thanks guys, especially Allan. It was knowing I could COUNT on the Gasholes for help that gave me that little extra security to take a chance and do this deal.
I owe you guys!
,,,that doesn't mean you can now strip my car for all the parts you need to finish your build!

Turk
You can use the trailer anytime...you know that. Besides, I trust you will use a proper-sized ball next time, and I appreciated recieving the motorcycle mirror.
Since the stories were never posted on CC, and since Turk brought it up, here's a quick recap.
1. Turk used a 2" ball for the 2 1/4" trailer...all the way to Provo with his car in it. When they were unloading the car in Provo, the trailer lifted right off the ball!
2. Turk then used the trailer to transport his daughter's motorcycle...and strapped the bike down REAL good from the front and rear. When he released the rear strap, the bike slingshoted...and left its mirror embedded into the interior wall.
The mirror is still in the wall...Gashole Performance Art.
Go ahead Mustang Boy...lend him your trailer. I double-dam dare ya!
