Csx4148

Looks like CSX4148 is back on the market. Just noticed it was listed on ebay along with another CSX alloy car.

Dan, looks like your buyer has a short attention span or is just looking to make a quick buck.

I think it's bogus.
I sent the lister this message:

To Whom This May Concern,
I just sold this car to a gentleman in New York who took delivery this past Monday. Since you have listed this vehicle with fraudulent intent, I have forwarded the listing to the ebay administration and to the regional office of the FBI for internet fraud. I have provided the agent in charge a full disclosure of all of the information including copies of the title, registration and transfer of ownership.

Have a pleasant day.

Excaliber 03-26-2004 11:55 AM

Thanks Dan, I'm really starting to think E-BAY is the problem here. Is it THAT hard to spot a scam? Shouldn't be IF they are running their business correctly.

Key to a fraud:
24hr or 3 day listing.
Pre-approved bidders only.
VERY low price with no reserve.

These are major RED FLAGS. Why is it E-Bay can't see that?

I alerted the new owner after I posted just in case someone is scoping out his new CSX. It will be interesting to see how quickly the ebay lister pulls the ad.

LURK 03-26-2004 12:17 PM

Dammit you guys! I just emailed the "seller" to have a little fun this afternoon... you guys ruined my perfectly good time :)

Looks like he'll be busy...

What a shame. eBay is a great place but I really don't think they do enough to discourage these activities. They should really do after a few of these guys and make a public statement that they will not tolorate these scams.

Pulling the listings is not enough!

Excaliber 03-26-2004 12:24 PM

E-Bay pulled the ad all ready! Man that WAS quick!

Well.. maybe I can still have a little fun...

I got a reply. Your basic scam.

My car was on last week in the same way this one was.

jamvan 03-26-2004 12:30 PM

Dan:

I thought you would be interested in the ebay listing for CSX4148.

I was also thinking about having a little fun with the seller. Since he pulled the ad so soon, I quess I will have to find my fun elsewhere.

You fargin icehole moodaphoka!

Dan Semko 03-26-2004 12:54 PM

Here was this guys reply:

Sir,
I know all tihs stuff, but i bought the car from that guy in New York....so you make it!!!!:)) Do you know that FBI will extracharge you for fake alarms? Go ahead and tell them again, and they can come and see the car..you are not the only one, dude:)
wishes!

And mine:
Really,
I just called the new owner and am awaiting his return call. Since I am personal friends with the agent in charge, I don't believe they will be overly concerned with my report especially since your ad was mysteriously pulled shortly after our correspondence. If I am in error, I will post a public apology on the appropriate cobra forums which have monitored your ad. If I am correct, then you will soon see the "errors of your way". BTW: the ad you posted was right off my listing so proprietary rights and true copy are available and have been forwarded to the appropriate authorities...dude!
I can't believe you didn't even let the dust settle before you posted the same ad. Man, you need to do some refresher classes.

LURK 03-26-2004 01:01 PM

Seller wrote me back! The fun goes on...

His name has changed, and, despite my "having family in Lisbon" (where he is) who can drop off the check, he only wants me to Western Union the money and RIGHT AWAY!

I told him I had contacted my bank and the funds were ready to go as soon as "my family" got to see the car.

Wonder how long I should wait to email him again to find out if the ad had been pulled because I am the successful buyer...

Poor guy. I'm starting to feel bad about taking advantage of a guy in a "handicapate chair"

Dano.. mind if I have him ship the car to you? :)

Seriously.. someone help me out here... we need a fitting "coup de grace"... so many places we could go with this!

-JT

Dan Semko 03-26-2004 01:40 PM

Sure, ship it back home. I received this email a few minutes ago:

Friend,
Because of your bull****s i lost 600 USD.
But you will see that you will pay more for this. I am not a tonky bonky.
See you..

Now I've been called many things in my life but never a "tonky bonky". Excuse me while I seek some professional counseling for the emotional trauma.
:D
Formerly Dano: From now on please refer to me as "TB":D

LURK 03-26-2004 01:47 PM

Hee hee hah hah hah hahah "Tonky bonky" oh lordy let me wipe my eyes so I can continue to see the keyboard...

Go get him Dano!

The guy's doing surprisingly well not being able to move and all... happy to see the broken back hasn't slowed him down TOO much!

-JT

Dan Semko 03-26-2004 01:51 PM

I just had to reply:

Hey Tonky Bonky,
I look forward to the challenge. My FBI friend has already red dotted you at:
Sultan James
Rua Del Flores 12
Lisabo 21541
Portugal
And I just forwarded your "threatening message" which the FBI takes rather seriously in our country. Since they will be monitoring all incoming messages, I encourage you and your tonky bonky friends to continue correspondence.
Have a most pleasant weekend.
BTW: The real owner just called and he is absolutely livid that you would post his car on ebay. Since he is quite wealthy, I'm confident that his reprisals will be significantly harsher than most.

LURK 03-26-2004 02:12 PM

Hmm.. Sultan's emails have suddenly STOPPED.

Hope he's ok...

Maybe it's just the medications. Maybe his wheelchair fell down the stairs?

Poor guy.

Excaliber 03-26-2004 03:07 PM

TB??? I don't know if it has the right ring to it, lets try:

Ban the TB's!!

Yeah, might work!
