Appreciation for Columbus area cops
'Way back in February and March, it didn't look like there would even BE a Spring Fling IV due to concerns over the sniper. Then, mid-March, he was caught in Nevada and everyone kinda went, "Yay, good job, Guys", and resumed making plans for the Fling. It was the cops right there in the area where we're going to be next week who flushed this guy out and got him running so the Nevada cops could catch him.
There isn't a heck of a lot we can do besides say "Thanks, Guys; great job!", but DV, if you know of any local law enforcement officers who would like to ride along in the parade into London, I, for one, would be happy to take along a rider as a small gesture of appreciation.
Anyone else...?

Lowell,
Well said Sir. Funny you should ask, I talked to the Chief Deputy Sheriff just yesterday. Actually invited him to our dinner/picnic Friday night. Seems he has to be in DC starting Thursday to pick up some kind of award. Go figure!
DV...this only once again proves, that "we" are one very special family!

The cops around here do a great job. It is a thankless job so it is nice to give them the hand they deserve. Personally I am a member and contributer every year to the benevolence society, the FOP and NARCO.. card carrying. It may not be much but I am darn glad some one is doing the job.
They just busted another natorious guy recently. Indicted yesterday on 137 counts from coast to coast. Not busted any where else, but here.
In Ohio my car is a permenant moving violation. No front tag, way to loud, bald tires (grooved slicks), etc, etc. Do they ever give me any $hit, no. Instead they are interested. The other day I came out to find a patty wagon sitting next to my car and two very happy police in it. "That is an original isn't it" they said. "No, a replica" I replied. They repsonded "When we ran the tags it came back as a '66 Cobra!" We talked until my carry out was cold and then, on request, a little burn out to warm the blood! I think they will be at the Fling. Bet they have raffle tickets under their pillows right now!
Now if the firemen would just call every year.

Rick,
Seems to me that if the word got around that cops could get a half-hour or so ride in a Cobra as a way of our saying, "Thanks", it would show them we're grateful for their doing their job. I'm sure lots of 'em have also looked the other way regarding minor Cobra-related vehicle infractions and a little attention on Saturday morning would demonstate that we appreciate that, too. And, as you mentioned, I'll bet they're also raffle ticket buyers.
I'm not suggesting that we have to babysit some guy all day Saturday. Heck, they're big boys; they can probably grab a ride back to wherever they want to go when they've had enough, although I would be happy to run someone home or back to the hotel. I just think that the guys who are interested could show up at the gas station at 8:30 or whenever the staging time is, pick out a car and ride along into London. A lot of 'em probably would have someone waiting in London to catch them on video, anyway!

Lowell, I think you hit on a GREAT idea.
DV, how about inviting every off duty cop in the area to join us for seat time? Not so much when we are raising money by giving rides but for times like the Poker Run and the parade into London? Just have them show up and lets not let a seat go to waste. It would have to be a first come first serve kind of thing if we get a bunch to show up. You know them all, if interested, drop a dime. I can get word to the firemen but I need know SOON!
If I have an empty seat (not likely, my family is taking numbers) then it would be my pleasure to give them a ride.
