A Brand New AC 289 FIA

This car was one of the last ones produced by AC CARS in Frimley, UK

It was manufactured on the original chassis jigs as well as on the wooden body forming bucks from the 60´

Hundreds of man hours were required to hand craft the aluminium bodywork and interior

You might want to be careful in your description as on "original". It would appear that this does not have a CSX 2xxx Serial number and most folks here (not all, Evan - ha!) define an original as being made in the 60's with the proper CSX number (or possibly COB).

now, I'm pretty unclear on all of that CSX stuff--- if a car was made be AC as a different model, instead of by a Carroll Shelby crew, would it still have a CSX or COB designation? (what is COB- I've read it somewhere but forgot..) So, if this car was a "real" original (actually manufactured in 1962 or whatever) would it have to have a certain number? Sorry for my wordiness and probably unclear dialogue. Thanks

the designators are AC's way of ID-ing cars
The "C" denotes the product line
COX - original manufacture for Export
COB - original manufacture for sale in UK

The original Cobras carried CSX - with "S" for Shelby and "X" for eXport

I'm getting there. Now how can it be an original if it's new? Cox2610- new export from old car parts? Chassis, etc.? Is it kinda like the CSX 4000 cars? New original replicas? Just from England, instead?

So, if I really wanted an original 289 this isn't it???!!

Back in 1965, I was a young apprentis in a Ford dealership in upstate NY. I worked on an original 289 FIA with RHD. It started my love affair with the Cobra. I contacted the Shebly registry this year because I've never seen another RHD Cobra. This is the reply I got back from them -

" The car's serial number is COB6047. This was a green RHD Cobra originally sold in England to a H.R. Owen. It was sold to J.A. MacPherson 7/7/65. At some point it was exported to the west coast and around 1970 was purchased by a guy in Venice, CA. It was eventually restored and sometime in the 1980s was converted to LHD. Last we heard it was in California."

The point here is the COB serial #. Which I believe is a reflection of the age of the Cobra.

Absolutely gorgeous(sp)!!!!
It's a "REAL" AC(pending disclosure of S/N) but not a "60's vintage" is how I would classify it. Considering price/value of an original 289FIA, I would say the asking price is not out of line.
I'd be tempted to trade my Kirkham for it, but it's still in pieces!!
I am at a loss as to why it is refered to as "Virginia" ???
I guess it is a "virgin"!!!

The race cars set up for the long ones (12, 24hr) had a lamp assembly on the door to illuminate the number in the meatball... so the pits could find their cars at night... it is like a small map light.

In connection with the comments posted regarding this AC 289

I said Original because it was made by AC CARS in the UK by some of the same people who made the ones back in the 60´, I am sorry but these cars were never built in the US. The rolling chassis always came from the UK. In the US only the engines & tranmission were mounted.

The car is a piece of handcrafted art and like Motorhead said
"the asking price is not out of line" and YES It is Virgin it is a rolling chassis! no engine yet.

If someone wants to see the car. This beauty is the State of Virginia.

did not say it was not beautiful.......It most definately is!
did not say the price was out of line.... does not seem to be!

but, if it was not built in the early to mid sixties, it is no more an ORIGINAL Cobra than mine. (now whether or not it is a "REAL" Cobra without the Shelby name and CSX number attatched is a whole other argument.....but we will let Evan take up that one )

Really though, it is a beautiful car and someone (with more money than me ) is going to be very lucky!

ok. I love it. Now would the headers/sidepipes go under the car, or outside? Street versions under S/C out? Is that right? What 289 engine /transmission would you put in it? What color is it?

Where would you find a real original 289? Auction? What about a 260 AC? Not anywhere? I love my 427; but always thinking....
