Default Tell me about the ERA you have for sale

Based on the weakness of the current market (please don't take this as an insult or a dig, but the facts are the facts) I'm seriously thinking about a resale ERA car. I drove two at the SAAC convention, and they seem to be well rendered copies of my old Cobra. My deal as of this point: I have a superb 2004 Infiniti G35 sedan, 6 speed, sunroof, etc., 9K miles, desert platinum/graphite leather, and upgraded with 18" Infiniti coupe wheels and Pilot Sport tires. I would add $10K cash to this fine vehicle in trade for an essentially perfect ERA 427 ("street" version or SC) with a strong engine.

Talk to me.

To make that trade I think that you would need to anti up some more cash.

The market is the market, however, most people with ERA's are in for the longer haul with their cars and will wait for the right buyer with the money. Excalibur (cc member) I have not seen anyone get a bargain ERA.

You need to define "superb" as well as "strong engine" as well as they can be interpreted different ways.

Just my thoughts and if you land a good deal all the better and good for you.

Some of you might remember when my ERA came up for sale here on CC? It was originally offered for $25K!!! Well heck nobody could believe it was for "real". It caused a helluva stir and quickly became VERY controversial. There were bids, retracted bids and lots of "talk".

When the smoke had cleared:
1. It sold for well over the $25K price.
2. I had my ERA with 427 side oiler!
3. In the process I got me a new nick name: "Dirty Ernie" (Just call me Slick).

The lesson? When a "bargain" DOES come around you have to be able to RECOGNIZE it and be willing to TAKE A CHANCE by "jumping on the deal". If you don't, someone else will. Not a risky business type? Spend a little more money and take your time buying one (how boring is THAT????).

I believe you have a better chance of buying a nice ERA by selling your upgraded G35 sedan outright and applying the proceeds towards an ERA. The trade option sort of limits your choices if not completely. The challenge is G35 sedans are a dime a dozen, even with nice wheels, wholesale dealer market too... and especially now with the AWD version out. Nice cars, I like them alot, and they drive nice. Maybe even a tad bit under rated in my book. Obtaining a nice used ERA that does not require either an engine / trans / or differential refresh will cost you quite a bit more than $10k extra even above an upgraded G35. A G35 + a nice Cobra make a nice package if you decide to keep the Infinity. Good luck, ya never know who/what might turn up.

As the purchaser of a used (barely) ERA #375, I can say that there are some great cars out there with the ERA pedigre. The used ERA market is small as there are only about 680 ERA 427's out there so I would not expect alot of activity. I am not sure any of the owners of an ERA would want to trade you for some other vehicle. I feel that this limits your end of the deal greatly. Rethink that aspect.

There is/was a really nice ERA up in the Mass area I know of for sale. It was on Ebay. This car was in the ERA shop this last winter for what appeared to be a total checkup, upgrade and overhaul. It is in really nice shape. It was red with white stripes as I recal and in the #3xx range.

You should also check Cobra Country and see what is listed there for sale as well.

Phil:

Your ERA 427 is beautiful, but since my post, I've decided that I really want a 289 FIA car. In addition, my sweet wife informed me that she will cut my ---- off if I sell her G35.

Good luck on finding your cobra a new home.

Ernie, didn't you leave out a detail or two?

1) Seller said first $25K gets it, he had to unload fast.
2) Eveyone was naturally suspicious, given all the frauds out there.
3) Someone offered $30K
4) You offered $35K.
5) $30K bidder cried foul.

You did get there first ! And we don't think you're that "dirty."

Tony:

Not to be overly fussy, but that particular ERA 289 was built as a "street" car (wires, under car exhaust, etc.) I wanna look like Feel Heel at the '64 Targa Florio.

Fortunatley I was able to purchase the ERA in question and thus save another Club member from a sure disaster. Hey, thats just the nice kind a guy I am.

Marco,,,, good call on the 289 car, GOT to be a "race" version. Street car style to tame for me.
