Scott -

you're killing me! Your cobra is just about identical to my dream car. Any hints to the reserve?

Didn't you recently finish it? Why selling?

. . . looking to take out a 2nd on the house

23 hours left, the reserve has been lowered slightly,

This is a great Cobra that can be had for less than many advertised here.

Just one nit picking correction about the text of your ad: the street 427 Cobras did not have a "reversed" speedometer. That was an SC-only feature,

Here are some photos of a real street Cobra,

http://www.erareplicas.com/427/real/index.htm

Unless they replaced the speedometer it looks as if you may be mistaken,

I owned and drove CSX 3121 (a real street Cobra) for six years, and had several friends who also owned non-SC cars.. My memory is pretty good, and I'm not mistaken.

Who cares? Almost every single replica wanders from orginality to some degree. Kirkam's have their own suspension - that's different from the original - once again, WHO CARES!!!

I agree with Cracker! the guy is just trying to sell his REPLICA.

But........

according to this site the street versions came both ways, some had reverse winding speedos and some had regular.

so Scott S good luck with the sale it looks like a really nice car!
don't worry yourself with the nit pickers.

Have a good one,
Dan

Also according to several books with original photos, Shelby used Smiths and Stewart Warner speedos. The tachs used were Smiths, Rotunda (Faria), SW and yes a few Sun units.
I agree with Dan, ignore the nit pickers and I hope your car sells. I sure looks nice

I hope his car sells as well. The only reason that I raised the point about the speedo was his mentioning in the ad that the car had " a reverse speedo just like the original street Cobra". Just trying to keep the historical record straight.

BTW, all 427s came with Smiths instruments. Stewart Warners were in the small block cars.

The speedo thing is a reminder of how important it is to find the VERY few unrestored original cars left. No doubt the speedo was replaced in the green street car referrenced above. All to often "liberties" are taken during such a restoration. I use such a car as a "suggestion" as what it might have been, NOT "proof" of anything.

Some months ago we were treated to pictures of an original red street car unrestored and STILL owned by the original owner. Interesting the overflow tank was painted blue. Something you rarely, if ever, see on a restoration!

Sorry I should have said in the ad, same as early street Cobra's

2 hours to go, the reserve is at 27,500

I may list it again at the same reserve but with better photos and decriptions.

CSX3121 was pretty early, being the 21st street 427 Cobra produced.

So if I changed the speedometer, you would buy my Cobra?

Scott,,,,, good comeback.

Avanti the link to that "Build an Authentic Cobra" web site is pretty good. As to engines it states that some later model street Cobras used a 429. Which I seriously doubt.

As usuall it's extremely difficult to find ANY site or two Cobraphiles to agree 100% on the finer points of these cars (all though engines are a BIG point)! They were, most of the time, just different enough from each other to cause a fair amount of confusion even among the "experts". Many of which frequent the Club here.

...personally, I get a kick out of discussing the finer points ad nauseum.
