New Shelby Series 1 Rollers for Sale
Did anyone else catch last weeks Autoweek magazine (week ending 8/30/04). The News section on page 3 mentions that Shelby is again selling Series 1 cars, but now as complete rollers.
Price is quoted at around $100K less engine and trans. Article also says that they still have parts available to complete about 250 more cars. Anyone in line to buy one - the article says they have already sold a few.
There was also another article on page 16 in the same issue about the Ford Shelby GR-1 prototype coupe. Stunning looking car - I personally like this car better than the new Cobra concept car. Article also says you can see more pictures on the Autoweek website: www.autoweek.com

Yes,
That article mentioning the sale of Series 1 Rollers mentioned in AUtoweek, was mentioned here on ClubCobra.
In case anyone missed it, you mentioning again should pretty much cover those who didn't hear it the first go-around.
Are you thinking of getting one?

Turk:
Just got back from vacation last night after being away two weeks. Saw the article while I was going thru my mail. Figured the issue might of been covered in my absence but did not see a link on the topic. Guess I needed to go further back.
$100K for a Series 1 roller is a little steep for me, especially since you can still find original Series 1 cars for around the same price (give or take a few thousand) with an engine.
I am still waiting to get CSX4349 in the garage. Car 99.99% done. All I am waiting for is the engine from Shelby (they are now 3 months behind in delivery). Never again.

I am curious how one would go about finishing off a roller Series 1.
There is plenty of help available for Cobra, and many who can and who will help. Series 1? I don't know.
If I thought it would be big, I would probably start a new website and give Brent Mills a run for the money.
www.clubseriesone.com
I would really really have to work hard to raise funds for that site. Maybe ONCE a WEEK. After all I would need all the money I could get from the two of us to make it work..
All kidding aside, I can't for the life of me see how the car that failed so miserably at the price point it was, can be expected to do anything as a do it yourself offering.
Not a bad car, looks nice and everything but at that price there is so much to choose from.
If it was me advising them, I would advise them NOT to!

Well ... This formula has worked before for Shelby so why not try to dump some series one inventory. Seems like there is always someone out there willing to plunk down the cash. Now where do you get your " not your father's engine" engine?
Maybe he has a stash of Alero's out back too :>o(

Engines are NOOOO problem! They have a bunch and I know I can get a bunch.
I was more worried about one off parts , whether they be trim parts or parts in the drivetrain, they would be tough.
What do you do for a tail lens, for instance? I know where to get Cobra tail lenses in different colors. Or gauges? Steering wheel, brake pedals....on and on.
I don't blame Shelby trying to unload what they have remaining but why would anyone buy one if they are available completed and registered for less than that?

Turk,
That is exactly the point! Would you buy a replica Cobra if you could have a low mile original for less? If Shelby can find guys who want to pay his price then he really is the greatest salesmen of all times

I'm sorry that my first post here will have me sounding like a naysayer, but I think that the following sentance taken from the the most recent quarterly report of CSBI is going to confirm everyone's suspicions:
"Management believes its existing cash and cash equivalent of $112,445 and anticipated cash flows generated from operations will not be sufficient to fully execute its business plan. The Company will be required to raise additional funding through the issuance of additional debt or equity. In addition, the Company will have to successfully negotiate extended terms on the note due to its shareholder Carroll Shelby. If the Company is unable to do so, it may be required to cease operations."
I hate to think that his legacy may involve another business failure, but taking risks is also what made him so special for so long.

Maybe they'll find some original frames and parts locked in a closet to start building the original Cobras again....

couldn't have happened to a more deserving company! looks like i'm going to be correcting many major issues with 7030 now that the customer has finally got the car back from "sai" (delivered at the monterey historics) after them having the car for nearly a year (last november). photos of the issues will be posted in case other 7000 series owners are having the same problems.
