Thanks guys,
I wanted the cobra in TN, and like my Mom always said(if you can't get what you want) don't settle for less. Allen |
Then listen to your mothers advice........Get a SPF.....You will enjoy it.

We have a FFR Cobra that is for sale if you have not already found one. We have used it very much as you describe you want to. It does well in car shows, does not get hot when driven here in Nevada in the summer, is powered by a 5.0 with a 5 speed, 3.27 limited slip. The car is precision and pristine. My friend has a Ferrari, his interesting observation:
He spent WAY more on the Ferrari than his Cobra. The Cobra gets WAY more attention. Same thing applies to the Viper. Not surprising to me, the Viper will be "just another cool car" on the road or at the show. The Cobra will be a head snapping, neck turning, hand waving, "wow, look at that car", one car parade. |
EXCELLENT points made by Excaliber!! I WAS going to buy a Viper until my son told me how expensive they are to maintain (he is an automotive service writer and told me that you need special mechanics who are trained specifically on Vipers to correctly service them). As soon as I discoved how much FUN the cobra replicas are, I just had to have one. I've had two now (most of the Forum guys and gals know why) and I absolutely LOVE my car!! It is without question, THE MOST awesome "don't mess with me" car that I have ever driven. I own a 1984 Lotus Turbo Esprit and a 1969 Hemi SuperBee and, although they BOTH attract a lot of attention and "Wows" and "thumbs up" from everyone who sees them, my COBRA gets more of that kind of attention than BOTH of the other cars combined. Incredible machines to own and drive. IMO:o)

I've had both. The cobra is the winner hands down. I had to get the Viper lemmon lawed and dodge had to buy it back from me for sticker price! Every time it rained, the trunk filled with water and that sucked. Even the defrost metal for the back window rusted. I found out there was a problem when I turned a corner and there was a weird sensation in the handling, then looking in the rear view, I saw a WAVE on the INSIDE of my car splash the side. (I am talking 2 foot deep water here) When it was dry, it was fun. But honesly, the thing does not compare to the SPF. The foot box in the viper was hot and the AC did not touch it. My 427 has a lot more UMPH than the viper had. Handling, about even, maybe a little more to the viper. But, I am not a wild driver most of the time, so I never really pushed the handling of either car. I can say that I would alway want a cobra over the viper... Both were my daily drivers as well (or at least the cobra is when the not raining and above 50 degrees outside). I drove the viper year round..snow and all. the only car I had at the time. Interesting on the snow...but great fun doing snow covered parking lots!
