Default BDR

Backdraft Racing #54 Cobra. This car is finished in PPG Reflex Silver Metallic. It is a beautiful color! Here is a summary of how the car is equipped:

* Ford Racing block, stroked to 342 (Standard Bore) by Hawaii Racing. 28 oz.
- 4340 Forged Crank
- Forged H-Beam Connecting Rods
- Forged Flat top 10.5 - 1 pistons (Probe)
- Performance Bearings
- Crane Billet timing chain set
- Crane Blue Racer Roller Rockers
- Crane 245-256 w/.595 lift @ .50 Camshaft
- Ford Racing hydraulic lifters
- Comp Cams hardened pushrods
- Melling High Volume oil pump
- Front sump 7 qt. Custom Billet "T type" oil pan with baffles
- Fidanza custom steel Flywheel
- Edelbrock Victor Jr heads, 2.05 intake valves 210cc runners
-Victor Jr Intake
- 750 Proform main body carb surrounded by Bigs modified
metering blocks and float bowls sitting on modified Bigs throttle
plate.

- Motor is easily over 400 horsepower (Very conservative #)
- 1.5 qt Moroso Oil Accumulator to pre-lube motor prior to
starting
- Everything on motor is polished, Ford Racing tall valve covers,
intake, water pump, March pulleys etc.
- Clutch is King Cobra
- Trans is a Tremec 3550
- Rear Axle is BMW E36 with 3.15 gears 80/20
- MSD 6 AL ignition with blaster coil 7k redline.
- As with all BDR's, adjustable stiffness of front and rear
suspension

This motor was assembled with nothing but ARP bolts (studs on the heads) and fel pro gaskets, except the head gaskets. They are Ford Racing graphite Supercharger/Nitrous gaskets. Much better sealing and prevention of head walk even when not forcing induction. Even the valve cover and intake bolts are ARP (Polished) along with the front balancer bolt. No expense spared on this motor. Runs 88 degrees C, and has never been close to 100 C.

Cars is outfitted with 16" (Uncommon) Team III wheels. 8" front, 10" rear. Interior is Black leather, seats and door trim. Tinted visors, windwings, heat shields (polished), polished bumper jacks, reverse lockout shifter, AC pedals and badging on steering wheels and shifter. Full carpet with floor mats, trunk is carpeted also. Push button start, utilizing a key for ON/OFF. Battery cutoff in the cockpit. Chrome fire extinguisher and a first aid kit. Ceramic coated Headers and polished stainless steel sidepipes.

The car also comes with an installed, ready to use nitrous system. This system has not been used on this motor. The 342 is so much more powerful than the 306 the nitrous is not even tempting. The 342 motor has just been broke in, now has 1200 miles on it.
The nitrous system consists of the following:

- 4 dash mounted Lucas switches each with their own indicating
light mounted directly above its respective switch
- One switch for arming, one for opening the trunk mounted
bottle, one for turning on the bottle heater, and a momentary
contact for purging the line. There is also a microswitch
mounted on the throttle to activate only when armed and only
at full throttle. So adding an additional 50 to 100 Rear Wheel horsepower is truly at your fingertips.

This car was purchased by me from Backdraft in June 2003. At the time of purchase the Autometer gauge package (Reverse 180mph speedo) was an option fitted to this car along with the Raydot mirror. The 306 that came in the car spun the front main bearing after 1150 miles. While that motor was being fixed under warranty, I decided to upgrade to this 342. Which I specifically ordered the shortblock to be able to withstand over 600 horsepower. The shortblock alone cost me over $4500. The car itself is in outstanding near mint condition. Minor rock chips on nose and rear fenders, very minor. I'm pretty anal about it. Every 100 miles or so, it gets jacked up and wiped down underneath, along with cleaning the insides of the wheels. Currently 2,500 miles on the car now. Car will come with a California Custom indoor car cover and a California Custom 99.9% water proof outdoor cover.

I may make someone a deal on the 16' open trailer I have that I had built specifically for Cobras. It has Aluminum wheels, front axle electric brakes and 42" aluminum rock protector on the front. I also have the spare 306 motor that will be for sale also. It has Edelbrock Aluminum RPM heads with 2.02 intake valves, KB pistons, Trick Flow stage 3 camshaft and cast crank and rods.

Also, this car has no flaws when driving. NO Cowl shake, NO steering wheel shake at ANY speed. Aligned perfectly. NO funny noises. You can cruise down the highway with one finger on the steering wheel. It is truly unbelievable. Corners better than any Cobra I've owned or ridden it, even with the not real high performance radial T/A tires.

For those not familiar with Backdraft cars they are manufactured in South Africa and do not come in kit form. They are completed rollers less motor and trans. They utilize BMW suspension front and rear, so the rear is fully independant. Besides the ride being a little stiff, (since the car is so light), they truly drive/handle as close to a highline production car as you're going to get.

You may find one as nice, but you will not find one nicer.

PRICE - $41,900

Located in Central Missouri.

This car appears very much sorted out and well thought out (well executed), and at an attractive price considering the value of the components invested. Someone in the market for a BDR in this color would be wise to take a closer look, IMHO.

Sorry, I guess it's not very clear since I edited the first post. The price is down from $44,900 to $41,900. All I can say is, go look at other Cobras in the same range then come see this one. I know I've got the power under rated at 400hp and the drive quality can not be explained, it must be experienced.

Default Guys,

Brian (Nuke) was one of the people who helped me see that not all Cobras are created equal, when it came to what I was looking for. His car was my benchmark as I started to down the decision path of buying a BDR. This is his second Cobra. He knows his stuff and he has put that knowledge, along with the best engine parts, into this BDR.

Also, his car and testimonial are featured on the Backdraft website - www.backdraftracing.com

This car is definitely worth the asking price. It is one of the nicer Cobras and BDR's you will come across (next to mine, of course.... ).

Good luck Brian.... I know selling your car was a hard decision.

FYI - The original description describes a 750 Proform main body carb. I have recently re-installed the Stage 3 Bigs 650 double pumper main body for quality driving at lower rpm's. The Proform main body will be inlcuded along with all necessary jets/powervalve, and gaskets if you wish to track the car. I know this is not the best time of year to sell these cars, but this car is a steal at this price. Come drive it. I am motivated to sell, I'd like to get my order in on the new car I'm interested in.

Rogers, it will be cool. You can decide when I let you drive it!

I'm certainly happy for you that you sold it. But you're right...it was stolen at the same time.

Wow,
and before I bought my Viper I was thinking about offering you 38,000 but did not want to piss you off. It sets new meaning to buy high sell low. (I am the best at that). B, is that other car you were looking at in springfield still there? Allen

Default New Car

Allen, that Viper may be down there but I haven't been negotiating on it. To be honest, I would not have sold my car so cheap if I didn't go test drive the new Mercedes SLK. I have to go get my order in, I fell in love with that car Not quite the kick in the pants of a Cobra or Viper, but it was so fun to drive and having a retractable hard top makes roadster driving so simple and worry free. 7 speed automatic with paddle shifting on the steering wheel made it feel like I was driving an F1 race car. And being an auto, my wife can drive it. That last note may be one of the main reasons I'm going this route. My WHOLE reasoning for selling the Cobra was to get more family involvement in what I love, which is performance cars. Here's what it'll look like except maybe in white, red or black.
