are the older spfs different than the new ones? Is it registered as an old cobra ?could you send some more pics? thanks Jeff

I know of your writings! Glad to meet you sir! Now I'd like to meet you in person someday.

I too have talked to Tom at some length on his problem. Tom, if you do have the car refinished and it is done right, from the base up it should never repeat itself. The days of the painter adding reducers/thinners to a gallon of paint on a whim, sticking a stir stick in the paint and pulling it out to see how thin or thick it is just doesn't get it anymore! He almost has to be a mathematician; lets see...4:1:1 1/2, or is it 2:1:1 1/2: ? Certainly part chemist and of course 99% learned in the black magic of laying it down!

"Double Venom" was seven years young when it was raffeled off last year, raced all over the mid-west in all types of racing and was still fine enough to win first place trophy's where ever she went. Not bragging, just a point that if it's done right, a Cobra or streetrod paint job should last for many, many years.

Proper equipment, and proper procedures. In Tom's case I really think it boils down to either "to much/to quick", or simply moisture in the airlines when it was sprayed.

Hi Jeff:

I will email to you some high quality pictures tonight. You asked if the new cars are made different than the older ones. Yes, the newer SPFs have many product improvements, but I think SPF's set a standard (even the older ones) that other manufactures try to follow. Not many succeed.

I owned a different manufactures Cobra 5 years ago and there is no comparison in quality. The SPF is much better.

I think the most valuable aspect of owning an SPF Cobra versus another brand is the Superformance network of owners and the help they provide toward the maintenance and repair of the car. When my other Cobra needed a part it was often a difficult process to figure out a replacement part. What year, make, model, manufacturer did the part come from? Sometimes the new part would need modified to fit or work. When you have a SPF performance question or a fix it question, asked the other owners on the SPF Owners Forum in Yahoo and within a day you have many answers.

The SPF has a part number manual. Determine the part you need, call the dealer and it is shipped to you overnight. And usually the replacement part fit!

I'm not a great mechanic, but I can follow instructions. The SPF owners group was always a great source of advice and instruction.

30K for an SPF sounds like a good price. Add to that the cost of a good paint job and it's close to market value.

A benefit to the buyer is he gets to decide what color car he wants! Or live with it and drive a nice price SPF. It's a win/win for the right person.

I aggree with slick, put a good paint job on it and it's still market or under market price. The new owner will save a bundle compared to new SPF prices. I see it as a pretty good deal and am suprised no one has jumped on it.

Couple of things I might add:

First of all I have had 3 Superformance Cobras the 1st one being early model (091) then 924 and 1543. All the paint jobs were absolutly outstanding!

When it comes to the big 3 I can tell you that Ford warranties their paint through the bumber to bumber warranty which is 3yrs/36,000 miles for Ford vehicles. We also will consider assistance outside of the warranty period if something unique happens to the paint. I have seen a lot of peeling over the years from some sort of mistake at prep or application and also a lot of problems from industrial fall out. Rail dust is a real problem if the vehicles are not washed off and of course salt near the coast can be fun to deal with also.

I agree the price of this car is great and a new paint job would fit right in!

I was the one that sent your add to the buyer. Being a previous SPF owner, I knew that your asking price was a very good value deal. We (the new owner and I) talked at length about the paint and the car and he is very excited about it.
