CA legal Superformance $44,000
1998 Superformance #239 with all Aluminum 460
Titled as a Special Construction Vehicle under SB-100
Blue with White stripes and red Team stripe
504 hp at 5500 rpm at rear wheels, 591 ft/lbs at 3500 rpm at rear wheels
Comes with a set of 17 X 10 rims with Kumho Victoracer tires in addition to the stock Trigos, and four new and unused Trigo aluminum knock offs.
The car has 23,036 miles on it.
The paint is overall in very good condition, but it does have some minor scratches and some rub marks from the soft top. I had also started to work on the fit of the driver's door. No mechanical problem with it. I was just going to get the gap line perfect. That means I have done some sanding in the jam, but you can't see it when the door is closed.
This car is a great combination of safety features, performance and reliability. I bought it in 2001 to use primarily for road trips and the occasional open track event. I drove this car from Ventura CA to DVSF III in OH and home via the San Francisco Bay Area without any problems. It has taken me on many trips and never let me down. I do not want to sell this car, but being a responsible adult sometimes means doing things like this
The car was originally completed by Olthoff Racing www.olthoff-racing.com The Superformance dealer in NC. It had a sb stroker that was replaced with its current engine at Olthoff Racing. I bought the car from its first owner in 2001.
It came with among other things:
Ford aluminum 460 block
Ford aluminum Cobra Jet heads
Tremec TKO 5 spd trans
All stainless brake lines
All urethane bushings
Halon fire bottle
Accusump
FuelSafe 17 gal fuel cell
5 point full width rollbar
12v power supply/outlet in cockpit under dash
Mylar protective film on the front end and front of the rear fenders
It also came with all the usual Superformance bits like soft top, side curtains, floor mats etc. btw, I can vouch for the usefulness of the soft top and side curtains.
MAECO Motorsports www.maecomotorsport.com has been the shop I've taken the car to for upgrades and other work. Some of the work done on the car and parts added are as follows:
Lakewood bellhousing and scatter shield
Holley 850
Edelbrock Torker II intake
Aviaid oil pan
Melling oil pump
Upgraded from stock dampers and springs to Olthoff Racing Bilstein units valved for the track (they ride fine on the street)
Upgraded to larger front Wilwood brakes and added glassed in cooling ducts for front brakes.
Upgraded to larger rear sway bar from Olthoff Racing
Added crossbar to rollbar to raise rear anchor point for shoulder straps
Current Simpson camlock 5 pt harnesses for driver and passenger
Cobra Suzuka FIA certified kevlar race seat, stock seat can be re-installed easily
Handheld halon fire extinguisher
I will take and post some photos of the car tomorrow. All my current photos are of people with the car.

When I bought the car I planned on keeping it for life. It was everything I wanted in a Cobra, and still is. Since then we have decided to help fund a relative's higher education and the car must be sold. Some day I'll get another one.

Randy,
I appreciate the compliment, but the fact is my niece has me twisted around her finger. You should see the tricks my own kids can make me do
Seriously, she worked her bu** off and got accepted after less than ideal circumstances in her life. How can I say, "No"?
Here's a picture of her and the car on PCH
btw, the duct tape on the oil cooler screen is to cut down on the air flow to keep the oil warm.

Bank Robbery/Extorsion/Burglery.....!
Crilly,
There are many other ways to pay for college. Start a 'puppy mill'!
Doesn't your wife have some jewelry you could sell? Not your Cobra! Have you thought about the advantages of 'renting' today? Aren't there some farm lands around Ventura? You can pick strawberries! Not your Cobra!
Seriously brother, I am awed by your conviction & applaud your courage! You know what's important. I think you 'get it'!
My hat's off to you, Sir!
jdog
P.S. I feel like a selfish, self endulgent, Gashole! Maybe it's time to go & give blood again.
Good luck with your car, it should bring Top Dollar!

jdog,
I'm really not that great a guy, but "Thanks".
I set the price at what I think is fair and reasonable. I have been told by quite a few people to advertise the car for closer to 50k. I want the new owner to feel like he got a good deal and go away feeling as happy as I was when I bought the car.

Jim,
Your car may be gone...but you are going nowhere. You are stuck with us..
My hat is off to you.
My uncle needed an operation and I had to sell MY car to fund it.
I passed. I hope he is doing ok..

Crilly,
Although it has been said before,I think what you are doing,as difficult as it is,is outstanding.
You have probably gone through all this, but a couple of alternatives:
.Get a loan from your bank on the car and have your niece pay you the interest by working in the summer, weekends etc.Have her pay the principle off over some time after she graduates and goes to work.
.Help her get a Federal or State or University student loan for the tuition etc.She is responsible for the principle after graduation and could help you with the interest if necessary during the 4 years.Just about every college and university has a wide variety of loan programs available to their students.
.If you have a house,a home equity loan with the same "deals" as above.
Hate to see you have to sell your car to do this very generous and selfless act.I hope she appreciates what you are doing for her.At the risk of sounding like I am lecturing,I think it is VERY IMPORTANT that you consider telling her this is 4 consecutive years-not take a year off to find myself after 3 years and finish later.I would also suggest that she have a little "skin in the game" herself to keep things focused and priorities straight, regardless as to how her college is being financed.I only say this after having "been there, done that."
Good luck,and again,WELL DONE!!!

Tbirdz,
The SB100 registration here in CA is so the car can be registered as the year the car represents or the year of the engine for smog test reasons. Having an SB100 number allows you to be smog exempt.
I know you were looking to buy a car and this would be a great one to get. I've seen it up close and seen it running. Just don't make him add using his fingers.

If you have to negotiate with someone, maybe I could buy the extra set of wheels? Let me know what you think, I plan on ordering a set very soon.

Enough already with the flowers! I'm trying to sell a car here
I don't want to play "too much information", but my niece has plenty of skin in the game as you say. She had to work very hard to get where she is and is continuing to do so. She is working while at school as well. We don't want to saddle her with loans/debt if we don't need to do so. We have looked at all the alternatives. My friends can confirm that I REALLY don't want to sell the car. I started talking about selling it a year ago. I can explore a lot of options in a year. It is the right thing to do and it needs doing, end of story. And btw, no offense taken or intended
Now, anybody wanna buy my car?
Tim,
The year model on the title shows 0000
The make is SPCNS which means it is a special construction vehicle
All of this is a smog related issue here in CA.
I will be adding info to the first post on this thread from time to time as I remember things and people ask questions.
A further note on the price. I honestly think the car is worth quite a bit more than I am selling it for. The engine alone is probably a 30k piece at least. And that'd be if you did a lot of the work yourself. The car doesn't have chromed everything and does have a few scratches and rub marks from the soft top to go with the 23,036 miles it has though. When I bought the car it had about 9k miles on it. It has been very well maintained.
I set the price to sell the car and leave the new owner some room to fix the scratches and buy some chrome if that is what they want to do. The total will still be a very good deal for this car.
Turk,
lmao, you're a bigger softy than you let on.
xlr8or,
Thanks for the positive ref. on my car and I still have plenty of toes so piss off eh
dlampe,
Unless the buyer doesn't want them I have no plan to sell them separately, but thanks for asking.

My apologies for constantly adding to the ad and not having photos ready to post. I went ahead and posted the ad to get it done and start the process. The hardest step being the first one and all that b.s.
Things were too busy at home to get the car out for photos, but I will get it done tomorrow.

As of today, Superformance #239 is now the property of a proud and very happy new owner. It was great seeing the look on Jason's face when he got in the car to drive it away. To make the moment even better, an older gentleman and his wife were driving by as I was about to take the photo below. The gentleman stops his car, leans out and says to Jason, "That car looks great on you."

Congratulations Jim,
You made a difficult but wise decision. You now have something else to look forward to in addition to your niece's college diploma.
