Unfortunately, my wife has called my bluff. I always told her the Cobras were the college savings accounts for my twin boys. Well, I was planning on both of them going to one of the wonderful public universities we have here in NC. They both got in to Duke and decided that was the place for them. Time to pony up!!!!
So, although I spent years looking for this car, economics won't allow 3288 to remain in my stable.
By the way, CSX 2149 and our 1968 Shelby 500KR will be at the RM Monterey Auction in August, so the Cobras will be out there in force!
Jim, it's so funny reading the above. I grew up in Graham, NC, and my parents had the same wish for UNC. I also chose Duke, and they did the best they could for me.

If they got into Duke these days, they'll do great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Default First Cobra Sold

werthie, You're absolutely correct. CSX2006 was one of the first 16 Cobras manufactured for homoligation for FIA recognition in 1962 and was subsequently the first "street" car sold. Herbie Hancock bought it and by all reports still owns and loves it. CSX2011 was one of the first three race cars prepared by the Shelby crew. The very early history, prior to December 1962, is a bit vague but by the time the team got to Nassau for the 1962 FIA sanctioned race the Cobras were recognized by FIA and CSX2011 was in the hands of John Eberly (aka Everly) making it the first factory prepared race car in private hands. From that point the history is fairly well recorded up through the time that I quit racing in 1967. From that time till this the on-track activities are all SAAC. See the web site csx2011.com for more detail. RMW

Check out that 1962 Holman Moody 'fastback' Falcon parked next to the Cobra (uses the above link)! Cool.

Default Fastback Ford

Yea! Is that a slick car. Only one I've ever seen. Had the opportunity to talk with fellow at the VA SAAC meet this year who was personally involved with the folks that owned these cars. (Look carefully, you'll see another one in the background.) As I got the story, they went to Europe and raced there. Where was the picture of the blue car taken. Is it back in the states now? Great pic!
