The fellow I bought my ERA from drove it 450 miles in the almost 3 years he owned it. Lots of people own these cars and rarely drive them, but 450 miles was as low as I've ever seen!

I would think the same rule applies to other exoctic cars as well. Like some Ferraris and 32 Ford Coupes, etc. Maybe, for some, it is enough just to have one in the garage, like "art". They are a beautiful car. Some of us are "drivers" and some of us are "collectors". It's all good.

...and the Kirkham in question here IS a piece of art, an outstanding example of the marque.

It is a fine piece but there comes a point when a fine car like that, especially a replica, becomes a waste... Just my opinion...

Barrett-Jackson lists Cobra's auctioned for the past two years on its web site. You'd be surprised how many they've sold as well as the prices. Good point of reference if you're considering bidding.

Jeff,

While you are not listed as the seller, I noticed that the second highest bid seems to have come from your personal Ebay account. Might I question why?

Default Fact, Fate...

...or coincidence? I was about to say what an interesting auction this is becoming! But I think Mrmustang just beat me to the punch here...

The bidding just gets more and more curious? First appears recent bidder, hfe1967.

hfe1967 changed his user ID just today (5/27)?

His old Ebay user ID was jeffrey0005 and had been so since 9/24/03

It was certainly a gracious gesture to have made the ID change because jeffrey0005 did not want jeffkmp's fellow Club Cobra members to think jeffkmp might be shilling his auction because both names are/were similar.

And we have a new high bidder 'asf1968.' He joined Ebay the same day (5/17/05) as earlier $80K bidder 'gasgooil.'

gasgooil has no previous bidding history.

jeff0005/hfe1967 has no previous bidding history.

asf1968's miniscule bidding history shows his only previous Ebay activity was a max bid of $70 on a golf club that sold for $132.50.

Overall, there is a phethora of low mileage ebay members jumping on the high end of this $82K+ bandwagon?

Further, it is notable that gasgooil's proxy bid which later maxed out at $80K was originally placed on May-25-05 at 05:49:12 PDT. Three minutes after jeffkmp's 05-25-2005 at 05:46 AM post stating, "i am sure it will go for more than 90k so i am not worried..."

Speaking strictly as someone who spends A LOT of time on Ebay, I've seen a lot of strange things happen. In light of the bidding on the Kirkham car that ended three days ago, his auction is right up there with the strangest.

Whatever, it's a great car and I certainly wish the seller luck in reaching an auction conclusion satisfactory to all.

Regards,
Doug

I think it is likely that people would join ebay just to bid on such an Item but some of the actions are a bit curious.

Default Ahh,Ahh, Sshhiill...

Mr. Pirate,
Nah! I leave that lawyering stuff to others.

Besides, any of us could have spotted that set-up. Bids exceeding those on comparable items by tens of thousands; Lots of new folks bidding, all from the same area and so forth.

And then there was the Ebay ID change; Christ how stupid can one be? Any doubts I had it was a shilled auction were immediately quelled.

I put the ball in Ebay's court via email to a person rather than using the generic "Report A Problem" link on Ebay.

We'll just have to wait and see how many they NARU? They'll bounce Jeff for sure just for bidding on his own item. We'll see if they take down any of the others?

Anyone want to send this joker a PM tellin' him to take a hike?

Gee! That was fun...

Perhaps I should point out the facts of our "other" third highest bidder gasgooil , his location (yup, in IL also), and look, he has a contact in his description as follows: "please call : jeffrey at 847 675 0005 with any questions or to purchase from private party " Let's hope in his real business he does not play off everyone besides himself as a fool...

OK folks, I think we can close the book on this guys blown cover.

hey, guys, don't you think he just panicked when you pointed out that the reserve was set too low??? It was too late to change it, so he's trying to bump it to what he wants? Is that illegal on ebay? Ya'll are ruthless! Give him a break! Somebody else messed up his auction! He's probably just trying to get out with his head above water. Don't they do that at BJ all the time?? Bid on their own cars when the price isn't what they want?
Sorry for all the questions. Ya'll are just soo hard on folks.

Kristen,

It's called shilling and is against Ebay policy to do so.
As for "2001 Oil Companies" (gasgooil), a not so favorite new and used parts company that Jeff is associated with, that remains to be seen. Regardless, what he is doing is both immoral and illegal. Shame on him for not only shilling his auction, but doing so more than once, and with several different user accounts. It's people like him who give the honest sellers and bidders a bad name........
