Be at the Monterey Historics in August. There will be 2 or 3 for sale. Bring deep pockets and lots of cash. Your arm may get tired from holding it in the air at the auction.

289 COBRA
larcinese, the clean 289 originals without a marred history are as a part usually over 250K, but "bad damage/paper trail" 289 COBRAs can be had for less.
I would search for an incorrect or bad resto on a CSX22XX to 24XX car and set about over the years to make it an absolute perfect restoration.
I don't think you will be using it as a daily driver, or your insurance agent will be having mini strokes waiting for it to be wrecked or stolen. As a point the last 289 we repaired was a left front fender, left out of gear and a masonry planter wall just up and ran into it, $7450.00 repair bill as vs a $2000 or so one on new vette. Try finding the correct type Lucas headlight ring NOS!
You will find you are bidding against several thousand current possible buyers poised, ready to buy that same 289 at a good price.

I was reading thew June issue of Autoweek today and there was a private ad in the back for I think CSX2566. Said it was an independant owner raced 289 car, and asking price was $450k. Car looked mint in the small color picture.

Not a real one, but close......
If you want to save a bunch of money, but have something very close, check with Rob Ginn at McMichael Motorsports. He has a 289 AC aluminum roller that was made on the original AC bucks for sale. You could put a fresh 289 in it and still be well under a $100k and it's in perfect condition. Rob is a top notch guy and I'm sure would be glad to talk to you about it to see if it's what you're looking for. Would be much closer to being a regular driver vs an original.
