'65 427 Cobra Daytona Super Coupe at Russo and Steele!

Russo and Steele to sell Shelby Cobra Daytona Coupe in Monterey

Type 65 Super Coupe Offered at NO RESERVE on August 20th!

The one-of-a-kind 1965 Shelby 427 Competition Cobra Type 65 Daytona Super Coupe will be sold at NO RESERVE at Russo and Steele’s “Sports and Muscle at the Marriott” auction on August 20th in Monterey, CA.

The 1964 race season had ended with Shelby missing the Championship by a narrow margin and generating Carroll's immortal line "Next year, Ferrari's ass is mine!" This is the car Shelby had intended for his assault on Ferrari, which resulted in a World Manufacturer's Championship in 1965.

Known simply as the “Type 65,” or the "Super Coupe," this car, (CSB 3054) was designed by Pete Brock for the new 427 Mk II Cobra chassis. Convinced the Super Coupe would exceed 215 miles per hour at LeMans, this prototype is the only 427 Cobra Daytona Coupe ever to exist. Truly one of a kind - one of one.

This full competition Cobra is extremely well-documented, and eligible for every vintage competition event worldwide. Russo and Steele’s August 20th auction in Monterey will be the ultimate opportunity for the Shelby American enthusiast to acquire this “Holy Grail.”

CSX2011 - First competition Cobra sold to private hands. Raced at Nassau Island in '62 and '63!

Russo and Steele will feature 75 of the world’s finest European Sports, American Muscle, Hot Rods and Customs at their one-night auction in Monterey. ALL CARS WILL BE SOLD at NO RESERVE. This auction is concurrent with the Monterey Historic Automobile Races, the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance and Concorso Italiano.

Other noteable cars offered by Russo and Steele include a 1963 Shelby factory Competition Cobra team car, a 2004 Saleen S7, a Targa Florio winning 1966 Alfa Romeo GTA, a 1968 Trans Am Javelin, a 1967 Ferrari 330 GTS. a 1965 GT350 R-Model, and several significant Hemi-powered
Mopars, among others.
