Well from Mustangs Plus, that VIN breaks down as a 1970 , built in Dearborn, Mich., Mach 1, with a 351-4V engine. Would need the door data tag to verify the color, transmission, gear ratio.

As I stated, the door sticker is missing. Ford used a riveted plate in 1969 but a sticker in 1970. My best guess is that it was originally yellow. Rearend is probably a 3:25 open, trans is original.

It has no rear honeycomb panel and no apparent holes where it attached, nor correct hood/trunk striping. There is also no pic of the interior, which is exclusive to the Mach. If it is a Mach, then original engines were 302 (base) 351 2bbl( depending on where made and when, it could be either a C or W), 351 C 4bbl and 428 CJ (ram air and non),428SCJ (also ram air and non). If it is a Mach I it's value isn't relevant with the missing items. It should be looked at as a nice Custom Mustang. Value is more relative than what a beautiful Mach I (original or restored) is worth. Until a $$$ number is posted there is no way to judge what type of trade he has in mind. After 35 years of dealing in early 'stangs and parts, I would verify everything and base the value on how it turns out.
302's were not the base in 1970 Mach 1 cars - the 351 2V was. Also in 1970, a Mach 1 could be verified by the serial number only : the third and fourth digits would be "05". No need for door data tag to verify on a 1970 Mach 1.

Regarding Mach 1's, I had thought that in 1969, all the 351's were windsor's, and in 1970, all the 351's were clevelands.

I think 1969 Mach 1's were equipped with 351W's, 390's, and 428's. In 1970, I think it was offered with either 351C's or 428's.

In 1970 as they were switching to the Cleveland, you could wind up with either a Windsor or Cleveland (only the 2bbl version), all 4bbls were Clevelands but the Windsor was readily mixed with the newer 2bbl Cleveland that year. If you ordered a 351 2bbl, unless you actually stated Cleveland ,it was anyones guess what you received until it arrived. It was my error on the 302, it didn't become the Mach I base engine until 1971. While the code was in the serial # of all the 1970 (and probably later ones as well) models, the data tag has much more info, much the same as the print out sheets under the seat/carpets.

Stan, hate to tell you but you are wrong. 1970 Mach's as with all 1970 fastbacks, and 69 boss 302's had no "fake brake" scoops. 69 mach's and fastbacks (except boss 302's) did.
