I would like to spend up to $40K, what can I get for the Cobra replica, prefer in the bay area or Calif / Reno

With this money, can I get use Cobra made by reputable shop, I mean like FFC or Superformance and other well known, or I have to cough up an other $5-10K to reach my dream

Have recently seen a few early-numbered (pre 300) SPFs go for around $40K. Also recently saw one in OH being advertised for around that...apparently more of a Winter time fire sale than anything else. There are always exceptions, but you can find well-taken-care-of SPFs in the mid $40's...you just have to look real hard, be PATIENT, and ready to pounce when one comes available. Don't forget that buying an SB100 compliant car in CAL is also worth some additional premium (arguably $2-4K more) over a car that is not....BE CAREFUL! Also, very early SPFs did not have dropped footwells, chrome/stainless rollbar, Wilwood brakes, etc. Do your homework.

If you want BDR or a FFC, $40K should be a slam dunk. Just make sure that the build quality on a FFC is up to your standards...it can vary from builder to builder (i.e. individual). BDR's are nice alternatives to the SPF, but there are definitely differences in what is standard issue vs. upgrades.

You have set a realistic budget and should get a decent car in that range. But the difference between a $40K Cobra and a $50K cobra would probably surprise many people (in the level of details, powerplant, etc).

Good luck!

Can't get mine!

$45K and you still need to cough up about a grand for shipping to Calif. BUT, it does have an all original 427 side oiler and it WILL pass smog, so it's possible you would not have to go the SB100 route!

Do some homework on that point, as the SB100\registration issue aint going away any time soon! What ever you buy, CAN you register it?

Default Welcome to the disease

What Red said. Also try the same post on gasholes.com. Lotta great info there if you can stand the flack. Mrmustang on this forum may also have some great input and maybe some cars.

I have several cars for sale at that figure but have no actual knowledge of the left coast rules.

Good luck in your dream.

What Dean said above is great advice, especially about an SB100 registered car seeing that your in California. Don't get fooled by those who say their car is eligible for SB100, as all cars are eligible for it come January 2007. Also watch out for cars that had an SB100 number assigned to them and then were sold out of state. Once the car has left California, the SB100 numbers becomes useless and cannot be reused if the car is brought back in to your state. You'll have to start from scratch as you would with any other cobra.........Budget wise, for an SB100 car, your probably a little low if you want a factory built car (SPF or Backdraft) that has already been SB100 certified, as the certificate adds value to anyone in your state (means nothing to anyone outside California though). As for a Factory Five, you can find some really nice, well built cars out there in the $27,500-$35,000 range, some of them are even registered in the state (some under SB100, some that actually meet California emissions)...Again, with these, you need to look at the quality of the build, the parts used, quality of the builder, and the quality of the bodywork and paint....You might want to contact turn key builders such as Gordon Levy in Arizona, as he has a wealth of knowledge and builds a fine car for what your looking to spend. Finally, the car should be able to handle what your planning to do with it, either a nice street cruiser, drag racer, or possibly a road racer.......Make sure your getting the car that best fits your driving needs and style.............

Hope you find this helpful.

Sincerely,

Bill S.

tc - To bad you weren't looking a couple years ago. ExCalibers car went for a song right in your back yard - Palo Alto I believe. Ex proves that if you wait around long enough you can buy a cobra and still send your kids to college.

If you are in no hurry and patience is one of your virtues - I'd suggest a Superformance hands down. Low 1'000's cars are available from high 30's-mid 40's all the time. The consistency of build and components is hard to beat for the money. Enjoy whatever you end up with. On a another note - a friend of mine is actually looking for a non-turbo, turbo look cab - mid 80's model. Nice car!

Check out the "Cobras for sale" section on Cobracountry's site: http://www.cobracountry.com/home2.html
You should be able to get a feel for used Cobra prices across the various brands. Good luck with your search.

Default Hurricane cobra for $40,000

tc sj:
I have just completed a Hurricane sc 427 cobra. You can read the details on cobra country .com. It is listed as a Hurricane 427 sc cobra, Vermillian red.
I built a factory five in 2002 and still have it. I did considerable research prior to buying and building the Hurricane. For my money it was the best kit to build on the market. I built this car to sell. I took great pain to make it just right. The price is listed as $41,500. We can discuss this issue when you contact me. You can reach me through the info on the cobracountry.com web site.
