LA Exotic Cobra for sale in San Diego

Well, it's come to me that I need something a little more practical and since I rarely drive my LAE Cobra, I've decided to sell it. I bought the car from Armond at California Cobra last March and his crew has done extensive maintenance and modifications to it, I am NOT trying to MAKE MONEY on the car. I just want what I've got invested in it so I can buy something a little more practical. The car deserves a good home and someone who will actually drive it more. Here's the spec sheet info I got from Armond when I bought it:

LA Exotic kit car
Vehicle ID Number: C0585170
351 Cleveland
Engine had a high performance cam
Transmission is a T-5 five speed
9" shortened rear end
PS Engineering wheels
Black Trim
Vintage gauges (I bought and installed these with a new dash)
Guardsman Blue with White Stripes
Ceramic coated headers and side pipes
Rack and Pinion steering
Four wheel power assisted disc brakes
Chrome roll bar
Tonneau cover
Carpeted trunk
Lakewood scatter shield

I also added a wood steering wheel, visors, and wind wings.

New Interstate battery and Hi-torque starter installed 4/21/06

Oh yes: SB100 Registered as an SPCN in California (sticker on firewall)

I'm asking $38,000 (OBO) which is what I've invested in the car to date (original cost of car plus all the extra stuff I bought and the modifications Armond did: i.e. rewire, new dash, new shifter, new hydraulic clutch, re-plumbing the gas tank, install front and rear chrome hoops/bumpers, etc.) I also have a full car cover. Car is scary fast. I was told by the original owner who had a professional mechanic assemble the car for him, that the 351 engine came out of a Pantera and was "freshened up" prior to install. IF you are interested, email me a PM and I can send pics. THANKS!!

Jim

Also forgot to mention, the new gas gauge doesn't work and the reverse speedo was working fine but stopped working on my last trip to Armond's place. May just be the speedo cable, but I haven't had time to check it out yet since I seldom drive the car.

The LAE Cobra is now basically a B&B Cobra.

Jim Barnett 04-07-2006 07:11 AM

Will also consider a TRADE for a decent condition 23 Window VW Deluxe Microbus PLUS cash. THANKS!!

If a Cobra isn't your "Cup of Tea", and I can't imagine why, then I'm also selling my '69 Dodge 4 speed Hemi SuperBee (1 of 92 4 spds built that year). IF you might know of anyone interested in either car, please let me know. I'm asking $90K for the Bee since it isn't exactly in "Show Car" condition like it was years ago (my cars are DRIVERS, not Trailer Queens:o)

Jim Barnett 04-09-2006 08:35 AM

OK, I guess my price might be too HIGH??? I'll accept offers, but please be realistic since I DO have $38K invested in my Cobra. A trade plus cash WOULD be possible IF I could sell the TRADE item easier than a Cobra which requires a specific buyer who is looking to buy one. I love my car, BUT since I seldom use/drive it AND since my wife wants our garage conveted into a family room (new pool table and a place to put all our exercise equipment), I must sell it, my HemiBee and my HD Sportster. THANKS!! I guess there's always Ebay, but I do NOT particularly want the car leaving California if that can be avoided because of the SB100 registration.

OK, before I list my LAE on Ebay this Sunday, I thought I'd let the CC Forum members know that I am LOWERING MY SELLING PRICE to $35,000. That is LESS than what I've invested in the car and for an SB100 registered car I think that's a pretty decent/fair price. My wife wants the garage space back to convert it into a "Family/Pool Room & Gym" and I simply don't drive the car often enough to keep it. Too many toys and too many hobbies. NO TRADES.

Are you gonna fix the gauges before the car go for sale ?

Jim Barnett 04-19-2006 11:13 AM

LAE Cobra is still available.

Jim Barnett 04-24-2006 06:46 AM

My Cobra is now listed on Ebay with some pictures I took yesterday. I'd still prefer that the car stays in CA if possible. I put a new Interstate battery and new hi-torque starter w/heat shield in the car on Friday. She's ready to go.

I've relisted my LAE Cobra on Ebay with a LOWER RESERVE. Contact me via PM if you're interested. The ONLY reason I'm selling the car is because I rarely drive it and I'm selling ALL my "toys" so I can retire next year.

Jim,

Just a question. Down in your later posts you said that you were lowering the price to $35K, but in your first post you gave an asking price of $34K. Which one was the typo? Best of luck selling the car as it is a nice one.

Ron :)

I wish he would just post how much he wants. I am interested, and emailed him regarding my interest, but have yet to see a response...

Jim: if you want to sell your baby, email me back!

Jim Barnett 05-09-2006 04:50 AM

This is gonna be a DEAL for someone: $32K. That's what I paid for the car at CA Cobra BEFORE I had all the extras installed and the modifications done (wood steering wheel, hydraulic clutch, vintage gauges, chrome hoops, hi-torque starter, yaddy, yaddy, yaddy). There is only one primary reason I'm selling the car: I want to pay off some bills and my PT Cruiser so I can retire next year (that and the fact that I seldom drive the car anyway). Contact me direct via email at: barnett_jc@yahoo.com it you're interested. Thanks!!

Jim Barnett 05-10-2006 07:20 AM

Sure hate to see this Cobra go overseas! Anyone interested at $32K?

Budfroggy 05-10-2006 12:09 PM

Overseas? haha... my offer stands though if you want to keep it in California.

StormBringer 05-17-2006 09:53 PM

Jim sorry to see you selling the cobra, did you ever find a owner for your lotus.

Jim Barnett 05-18-2006 05:37 AM

I may NOT be selling my Cobra after all. I've got to discuss this with my wife this weekend. I did sell my Lotus Turbo Esprit last year to a guy who had previously owned a couple of Lotus cars before and he was super happy to get mine.

2l8iwin 05-22-2006 01:56 PM

Let me know if you are selling or not. I am interested.

Thanks
