Furman's car was/is exceptionally nice but it was on the market for eternity before it sold. If you're buying the car for a speculative investment, think twice because the cobra market is soft, gas prices are high and insurance premiums will soon be increasing. If your primary reason is to have a great time in a wonderful car and retain your investment when you decide to sell, the CSX investment is at the top of the list rivalled only by ERA's and SPF's.

I had no problem selling CSX 4148, nor any of my past SPF's but I bought them to enjoy rather than as an investment.

While any CSX 4000 car will probably never "drop" in value, I wouldn't purchase one with the intent of making money off reselling it at a later date, and a main reason for buying it.

CSX4092 is a really nice, well built, period correct type car. If you want a Shelby, it's a perfect choice. The price is a tad high IMO, but not too far off what I'd feel a good price for the car is. It's no bargain at 92k, but it's not a rip off either.

What it really comes down to, is if you want a CSX car, or just a Cobra. It mattered to me, so I made that choice.

Hello Rick,

I have CSX4264 in my garage and really love the car, mine has a 427SO from Southern Automotive and 4-speed top loader. The car you are looking at looks great and it has an Aluminum 427 with a 5-speed. The 4-speed is traditional, the 5-speed is easier to live with. I think the $92,500 number is a fair price for this car IMHO

You need to drive it, get it on a rack and inspect it end to end for oil leaks, bottom damage, scrapping under the oil cooler, look inside the Wheel wells, look at the fit of the Aluminum kit etc. etc. You may even try to hook up with a mechanic you trust to check the compression ratio across the cylinders , drive shaft run out and general condition of the installation. If something is wrong inside that motor you could get it home drive a few thousand miles and then the issues that 427's are famous for could present themselves as an expensive thrill.

If you look in my photo gallery you can see photo's of my car that I took at SAAC last Feb. She needed a few more parts (headers & side pipes) and to have the ball joints replaced, at that time.

The car is still there.

90ish is what you will be spending for a new order CSX, similar in equipment to 4092, without the wait.

I have a friend who recently finished a very nice brushed Aluminum Kirkham, Southern side oiler, David Kee toploader with Nascar shift rods, 2X4 set up professionally by some hot shoes here in Houston, etc. I have no idea about the selling price, but email me if you are interested. He recently had his first kid and that may have influenced him to sell so soon. I finally have mine up and running pretty well, so I'd like to get it on the road ASAP. steve meltzer "unemcumbered by the thought process"

Kirkham is a nice car. Just depends on how much value you place on owning a real Shelby cobra with a CSX number attached, and the history behind it.

I second John Martin's credo on this one. You only live once, and you can't take it with you.

If you like it, buy it, enjoy it. Dont think of it in the strictest terms from any investment perspective.

Also, regarding #4036 at Fantasy Junction. That is one spectacular Shelby. If you look at the pictures on their site you can't really get the wow factor. You really have to walk in there and stand next to her. That car absolutely stands out,even while surrounded by some of the best of the classic automotive best, in that showroom. I pleasantly envy whoever owned her and whomever will own her next.

The allure of a Shelby Cobra is evidenced by the long lines of guys waiting for theirs and many of whom parted with replicas they loved for a Shelby.

There is an intangible with a Shelby that others can't provide. Many of those that don't have or can't afford Shelby's knock them. Many who knocked them in the past as just an expensive replica and all you get is the "name" are now on line for a 4700 series car.

Dem are da facts.

The name does add value. Whether they will appreciate in value...who knows.

I agree. Don't buy it as an investment. They may never go up in value and if they do it will be in the far future. They will hold their value though.

Buy the car because you want it, love it and want a car that is part of the Shelby family and has its history linked to SAI and the man himself if you find value in that. If not, buy and ERA for much less.

Unless you already have a 2006 Zo6 then forget the almost REAl Cobra and go for one or todays best factory hot rods. Will blow away 99.9% of all Cobras REAL and almost REAL ones.Plus A/C, comfortable seats and can you believe almost 30mpg. Save the 20K that you were gonna blow an the repli-Cobra and take the wife, girlfriend, boyfriend etc.etc on a fantastic vacation.

What is your absolute first goal -

A) Return on financial investment?

B) Owning a Shelby car with a continuation CSX serial number?

C) Function & Value - driving it?

I would concur with many others. Don't buy it based purely for investment purpose. Buy it if this is what you really want. For some, its about quality and function and modern day serial numbers mean nothing to us. For others, they've always dreamed of owning a Shelby Cobra and willing to pay the price. In either case you can find quality, and the price tag depends on what you hope to accomplish with it. Without naming names, I know of a few guys who sold their originals to buy nice, modern day replicas so they could drive them.

IMO: Whatever you do, buy something you can drive and enjoy whenever you want. To me there is nothing worse than buying an expensive modern day recreation car to let it just sit there an look at it without driving it much. It comes down to what you want, not what any of us think.
