Scam E-Mails and buying a Cobra

I have my ERA listed on Cobra Country and am sad to report have gotten a LOT of "Nigeria" mail, as well as a smattering of interest from apparently serious buyers. No hurry to sell, if I sell at all.

Growing more suspicious, I've started trying to verify 'who's who' to find out if their 'real'. I found this little blurb about "davidtom", a buyer who says he's from the UK, by Googling his e-mail address...

Details: beware of scams e mail address "davidtom060" who contacted me by email about a moter i listed for sale for 2200 said he s frome uk wanted to give me a cashers check for 7000 said his contact here in the states would need remaing amount to ship moter back to uk if i would of cashed it i would be responsible for paying money back to bank and moter is gone thanks james

On the other hand, I 'Googled' another guy I was HIGHLY suspicious off and discovered he is quite 'legitimate' and actually a 'dealer' of specialty cars! So it works both ways.

I just got an email from the same guy last night trying to buy my Superformance. I figured it was a scam since he said he was from the Uk. On Cobra Country there is a scam posted that originates in UK I think. Thanks for the heads up.

Mike Lane has a Hurricane for sale on CobraCountry. After a few email from a guy in Nigeria, Mike told him to send the check. He received a cashiers check. Of course the check was more than the price of the car and was drawn on a bank in the U.S. Mike faxed a copy of the check to the bank and they said it was a counterfeit. They turned it over to the FBI. The scam must work sometimes because they keep doing it. A couple of email and a bad check for $7000 profit. Not a bad business. I hope Someri split the profit with his new cell mate.
The best scam is 10% of 6 billion dollars, now that the one I like. hem, Kirkham and I could pay cash.

"Recognizing scams"

Most scams meet involve one or more of the following:

inquiry from someone far away, often in another country
proposed transaction includes a cashier's check, postal money order, Western Union, or escrow service (BidPay, Squaretrade, etc.)
inability or refusal to meet face-to-face

It was either on CC or elsewhere, mentioned that Money Orders can be cancelled and after depositing, the bank will remove the funds from your account
