Ask the experts !
Hello everyone, This is an amazing site with LOADS of information on of course, the most unbelievable automobile ever built. I am "looking" to purchase a Cobra 427 replica but in my research I have seen that every company manufacturing turn key units says the same things about their product like - best body available, best frame available, best components used, most parts made in house. This is all fine and good but laying down the 40-70 thousand dollers to purchase such an exquisite animal I was wondering if any of you current owners could help me out with some info. I have been swayed heavily to the Superformance 427 S/C because it seems like an all around awesome car. Thanks everyone. My e-mail is carlbergatlantic@aol.com

Dave,
We certainly get your question a lot here, and rightfully so. The correct answer, of course, varies with each owner. How do you REALLY plan to use the car? Do you want a somewhat reliable daily driver? Is it just for "show and shine" on the weekends? Will you be racing it? Can you really live without a 427 side-oiler under the hood (427 = $$$)? Do you need a car that's visually identical to the original in every minute detail? Do you want one that just "looks like" a Cobra? Something in between maybe? All of these questions are very relevant and greatly affect the answer to the age-old question of "which Cobra is best for me?".
BTW, you should be able to get a really nice replica for a good bit less than 70 big ones.
Keith

Hello Keith, and thanks alot. I am not going to be pursuing a 427 monster auto due to the fact that this is first time out. I had a chance to drive a Torino with a 428 Cobra Jet and that made my head spin - the power was UNREAL and there was nothing like it. My first time out I was thinking a 351 prepared to produce about 4-450 hp with a Tremec five to harness the power. Have you ever owned a rig like this before? I did however see a listing on an old 427 block that needs a total makeover and the price was reasonable but like you say - EXPENSIVE none the less. I want a dependable snake, Looking for about 6,000 miles per season, maybe less. I realy cant wait to turn the key and GO wherever I want very quickly. With power to weight ratios unsurpassed by most supercars it will be extremely fun. And the research continues. Thanks again !

i have a three month old SPF (#1049) with an in-house built Olthoff 351 with all the goodies...sounds like the kind of performance you are looking for. It has all the power that i could ever want and haven't found anything that can hold a candle to it around here.
i'm about 25 miles south of boston going toward the cape...noticed you are in southern n.h....if you ever want to see my car, just let me know.

Snakeyes, this thread might prove helpful. You can't go wrong with the Superformance, the resale values lately have been unbelievable.

Run and Gun 2000 I ran 11.6 at 124 mph with true street tires. I ran the street class that dictates no "R" rated DOT tires they must be True DOT street tires mine were Michelin Pilot SX's. To run these times with street tires a driver must feel the bite and not over power the lower two gears. Once in third gear push the pedal through the floor. With 3:27 rear diff. I was able to go through the quarter tight (6400rpm) in third gear. I have run quicker with this combo, but that was with cooler night air.

SNAKEYES
Hello Gordon,
I would love to see your car, however I have been held up quite a bit with a broken foot and havent been able to get around as well as I wuld like. I like the sounds of your engine scheme and it sounds perfect for what I need to do. Have fun, quickly. haha. I am going to be heading down to Providence to speak with some folks reguarding a Superformance car very soon. The opportunity to see and hopefully be a passenger in your rig is greatly appreciated. Its a hell of an offer and when I go to Providence, I would love to swing over to the cape and get more education on what I am up for from an owner/expert that has already done what I am about to. I will be in touch and Thanks !
