I get tired of cleaning others messes. I always prefer an MSO that way I know I get it titled correctly. Anybody with a kirkham on a MSO? Caveat is I need a smoking deal.

I always roll over, helped the guy with my last cobra and the title and didn't charge anything, He turned out to be a great guy. Car looks as as good as when I sold it, glad to see it was taken care of.

I went to buy a motorcycle once. Met the guy at his nice house. All seemed on the up but he was jumpy and told me that if I like the other bike in the garage, he would throw it in for an extra $250. I fell for it 'cause it was just too great a deal. He couldn't find the pink slips, but I made him sign a Bill of Sale.

Turns out his soon ex-wife and her brothers were on their way there to take everything.

I spent many hours with Bank of America and Wells Fargo sorting out releases before I got clear title on the bikes.

I just wish I had grabbed the ski boat and jet ski too since I would have been at the same banks anyways.

Bill of Sale is everything if there is no title work to be done.

however, when being chased by four men with Zevon, the cobra is fueled at a nearby Sunoco with racing fuel allowing it to break the ten second mark in the quarter mile. The diner refuses to serve the eggs and offers Bacon over "sauce".

A sultry blond sat on the end of the counter eyeing the men and the cobra outside....

Catch, it is now yours.

Thompson is pissed about the food and that they keep playing Depeche Mode and goes on a rampage. Maxx is glad he took the gun and put it under the seat.

Meanwhile, Maxx catches the blonde’s look and wanders over. “Sorry about my friend, he hates Depeche Mode. He gets a little crazy sometimes”. The Blonde turns away from her iPad, takes a sip of her iced tea and looks Maxx over. “Nice car, looks fast. You think it’s fast enough to catch Zevon?”

Maxx tries to be cool while all the commotion is going on at the other end of the counter. Thompson wants his eggs….

“So, you know Zevon?” She chuckles and strokes her hair. “Oh yeah, and I know what you want from him….some kind of paperwork? You said your friend over there gets crazy? Nothing compared to Zevon. And what’s with the eggs anyways? Jesus! Maybe I can help. Like I said….nice car”

And back to you Tru

1) Ensure that the person you are buying a car off of owns the car. Note, possession does not equal ownership!!!!!!!!!
2) Over 50% of the Cobra's I look at are not owned by the individual selling them. The individual selling the car should have a clear TITLE in THEIR name. Not the previous owner, not a brother in law, Not a dentist but their fuking name.
3) The registration should be current in THEIR name. Not the previous owner, not a brother in-law, not a dentist but in their fuking name.
4) If buying through a dealer there has to be a paperwork trail. A bill of sale signed by the original owner transfering ownerhship to the dealer. Then the dealer can transfer to you. If not than the dealer dont own the fuking car to sell to you. If buying through a dealer they manage the paper work. There has to be continuity.
5) Dont get all wet between your legs and buy a car and sort the title later. You have nothing at that point but less money. Ensure the title can be legally transferred to your name without issues BEFORE YOU BUY THE CAR or you have nothing.

6) After you buy the car get it titled in your name or you don't own the fuking car!!!!!!!!!! and it is worthless to you. I know little boys you dont want to pay the taxes. To fuking bad, dont buy the car then. You will pay the taxes before you can legally sale the car to someone else or you dont own it to sale.

I feel much better now. By the way all the states are connected now and when they run a vin number they have other states info and can see who was the last person that owns the car and when it was registration was current. If there is an expired registration then there better be bill of sales with signatures for a paper trail.
Most of this is good sound advice. However, since there are a few of us who (legitimately) broker these cars, might I add the following:

7: if it is not the owner selling the car for themselves, know who you are dealing with. Are they a known entity with a documented track record for playing it straight, or not? Are they known within the (insert specialty car here) community?

Just my additional two cents worth.

And when you are dealing with expensive cars, it can get even more complicated when a few guys all pitch in and form a loose "partnership". Back to the Title and Bill of Sale. That is ground zero.
