Question Jcf

DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY INFORMATION ON A COBRA MANUFACTURER CALLED "JCF"??? I BELIEVE THAT THE LETTTERS REPRESENT "JOHN'S CUSTOM FABRICATING" ALLEGEDLY LOCATED IN OREGON.

I SAW A 289 SLABSIDE THAT THEY MADE AND I WAS QUITE IMPRESSED WITH SOME OF THE FEATURES.

IF YOU KNOW HOW I CAN CONTACT THEM PLEASE REPLY. I TRIED A NUMBER OF "SEARCHES" AND WAS UNABLE TO LOCATE THEM.

ANY INFORMATION OR OPINIONS THAT YOU MIGHT SHARE WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED ALSO. GOOD, BAD, OR UGLY.

IF YOU PREFER TO CONTACT ME OFF OF THE FORUM PLEASE E-MAIL ME DIRECTLY AT jackm@novasec.com. DO NOT TRY TO E-MAIL ME THROUGH CLUB COBRA BECAUSE FOR SOME REASON THEY DON'T GET THROUGH TO ME.

THANKS, AND, Y'ALL HAVE A REALLY GREAT DAY,

BLACKJACK

I think I just signed my life away to Brent...

BLACKJACK, the gentleman (and I use that term loosely) you want to talk to is Walt "Slab Boy" Tomsic. He's a CC member.

Thumbs up MANY THANKS

RON & RICH,

THANKS MUCH FOR THE REPLIES.

I E-MAILED WALT AND HOPE HE WILL RESPOND.

I HAD NEVER HEARD OF "JCF" BUT THE SLAB SIDE COBRA THAT I SAW YESTERDAY REALLY LOOKED SUBSTANTIAL AND - FROM WHAT I COULD TELL - VERY ACCURATE.

THANKS AGAIN AND Y'ALL HAVE A REALLY GREAT DAY,

BLACKJACK

Post JCF

BLACKJACK,

I just sent you an email. Let me know if you don't get it.

And by the way, that is not John's shop on ebay. JCF is in Coos Bay, Oregon and if I recall that shop for sale was in Washington.

Mike

Default Yea, they are nice little slabside cars...

There is a local guy here in Sacramento that has a JCF slabside car with a 289 dual carb setup. He built the chassis setup himself, and used the JCF body. I've ridden in the car a few times. It's a solid little car, and lots of fun. The tailpipes are out the back which is kind of neat for a change.

I liked it quite a bit. I actually talked with John in Coos Bay a few times over the phone a while back when I was looking at 427s vs. 289s. I guess he even builds a 427 car too, but I've never seen it. John seems to be pretty talented, and his cars have been featured in a few articles. I especially like some of the dash material options he offers; some sort of cowhide/rough look is the one I saw. It looked great. If you want him to build one turn-key, he'll build it according to your needs and specifiations. He seems like a great guy. He has a fairly new brochure now too from what I recall.

Default JCF

Here is the phone and address for John's Custom Fabrication (JCF) or aka John's Fab.

He does "turnkey" or anything you want from ground up on both 289 and 427 car.

Thumbs up MANY THANKS

THANKS VERY MUCH, GUYS.

THE INFORMATION IS A GREAT HELP.

I REALLY WANT (NEED, HAVE TO HAVE, GOTTA GET) A SLABSIDE.

I WANT TO DO IT AS A 1964 A.C. STREET CAR. NO HOOD SCOOP, NO SIDE PIPES, NO ROLL BAR, NO COBRA EMBLEMS - ONLY A.C. I WANT TO CAPTURE THE PURE LINES OF THE ORIGINAL CAR AND THE ONLY ONE I'VE SEEN THAT CERTAINLY DOES THAT IS THE JCF.

I'M LOOKING AT A "FAIRLY" STOCK 351W ENGINE WITH A 5 SPEED, AND A STREETABLE - FAIRLY MODERN CHASSIS & SUSPENSION.

PROBABLY A "DARK CHAMPAGNE" COLOR. (THAT'S THE "ALLEY CAT'S" TERM - - I'D CALL IT A "SORT-OF METALIC - TANISH - LIGHT GOLD - WITH A LITTLE SILVER SORT-OF). MAYBE HERS WORKS BETTER. CHROME WIRE WHEELS, TAN LEATHER SEATS & DOOR PANELS, BLACK CARPET AND INSTRUMENT PANEL WITH A TAN SOFT TOP.

I'VE GOTTEN ENOUGH POSITIVE INFO FROM YOU GUYS TO MAKE THE FLIGHT OUT TO OREGON TO MEET AND TALK TO JOHN.

THANKS AGAIN FOR THE HELP.

Y'ALL HAVE A REALLY GREAT DAY,

BLACKJACK

Interesting the stuff I keep, like intriguing articles about lesser known builders etc, at least lesser known in my part of the woods. I just located an article about a slabside replica built by JCF (John's Custom Fabrication) that I had torn out long ago. A nicely done story featuring a beautiful replication of a slabside...and great pics as well as info about the company and owner (John Paullus) . For anyone with access to old magazines, library copies or whatever, see KITCAR MAGAZINE, Sept 2001 issue, pages 60 and 61. I have never seen one of his cars in the flesh, but the article was impressive. Bill Wells.

blykins,

This is the "slabside" body style. A slabside is basically the street 289 models

Question Scoop

Not that it probably matters too much, I understand that the intent of the picture was to give an idea what a slabside is/was, but I don't think the origianal street version had a hood scoop?

If anyone is interested I have a scaned copy of the Kit Car article. If you post your email I will be glad to send the file. It is 345kb in a zip file containing to .jpg's.

Default greenwater

Kris,

Do you have any idea what size tires are on that slabside? They do fill the wells very good...we are certainly far away from the small 185/70s originals!

thank you.

BLACKJACK

I know John of John's Custom Fabricating. He is indeed in Coos Bay Oregon.

I bought my first Side Oiler from him. Traded a crate 502 Bowtie and some cash. About 13 months later he gave me my money back and the 502. The Sideoiler was a Center Oiler. He didn't know!

I have been to his shop three times, a colorful transplanted Texan. He fabricates winches for fishing fleet and welds anything. Interesting little shop. Great guy.

He had two of his bodies sitting on the ground, and to demonstrate the strength of the build, him and his worker both stood on top of the hood and literarly jumped up on the empty shell!

The day I was there one of his customers from the Bay Area was there with his car on a trailer. Appearantly the fellow got into an accident with the Cobra right as he was going to Sears Point. The other vehicle a Toyota Forerunner or maybe a Toyota Pickp Up (I am not sure) was not drivable and the Cobra made it home under it's own power!!

If you fly up here, we'll both drive to Coos Bay. I wouldn't mind seing him again.
There is also a nice small diner where they have great clam steaks..
