yes im running a LENTECH in two of my cars. one is my FFR and the other is a 10 sec 1990 mustang with 500 puls rear wheel hp. They are both outrageous in there own way. One is a lock up and the other is a non lock up, totally different systems. They are pretty much bulletproof. Cost is about 2800 with conv. Whats your combo for motor and good for you for choosing an AOD..My FFR has the lockup and i simply love it, around 450 hp with a trim vortech, hope to go to s trim when $ is allowed , so 550 is within easy reach with the rest of the motor combo, good luck hope this helps....Be carefull there are two art carrs....

This question should go in Shop Talk, or all Cobra Talk for better response.
Looking at your engine spec's, you'd likely be better off with a manual trans. Tremec or Richmond. Piece of cake to install, cable clutch linkage is simple, and works well.
That being said, there are specialty trans shops reworking AOD's for hipo street and racing use. If I were installing an auto trans, my first choice would be the GM 700R4 as used in Corvettes, Camaros, and Trans Am's. They need less tweaking, and Art Carr makes a Ford - GM adapter.
Keep in mind that these trans's are not true 4 speeds, but 3 speeds with OD for cruising. I shudder to think what it would co$$$t to import a trans from the US. And your recourse should you have any problems with it. Shouldn't be necessary.
Next in line would be a Ford C4 or C6. Both have rebuild options of passenger car gearing (2.48:1 low), or van & light truck gearing (2.96:1 low). Both have aftermarket valve bodies for firmer, quicker shifting. With all that torque and a light car, you can put taller gears in the diff, 3.08's or so to retain some cruise economy, and a very quick car on the strip.
Frend of mine dropped a hot 351 with the C4 setup in a Triumph TR-6. Weighs about the same as a Cobra. Runs 10's in the 1/4 mile.
If you keep it relatively simple with the C4 or C6 Ford trans, there's got to be at least one trans shop in Melborne Australia that could set this up for you. Talk to a few.
Now...tell us about the Australian made aluminum 351 Cleveland heads you guys have that has all the Pantera owners talking, and Cleveland powered Cobra guys curious.

the problem with a stick that any real hp and tq and the truth is that an auto is the way to go and the aod is just as strong if not stronger than a c4 or a boat anchor c6 with less loss of tq and less weight. Lentech has an awesom product and they know it, i had well over 250 passes on mine before a minor rebuild and it was not broke, and oh yea with the od 4 gear is so nice for crusing , keep the 4.10 in the rear and still do 80 at 3000 rpm all day long, once again od is for crusing, but if you want to shift and goof off with a stick use a tremec or a toploader od 6 speed.
