Well...I am not happy.
I have been a customer of Jet Hot Coatings on three separate occasions, spending over $500 each time to coat headers and sidepipes.
The first two times, I have been more than happy.
This last outing has changed my mind.
JHC recently moved their process to Missippi. In the past, all I did was drive down to Bridgeport, PA and drop the pipes off and pick them up 72 hrs later.
NOW, they must be shipped to Missippi. Well I receved my headrs and pipes 2 months ago. I spefically told JHC how to ship the pipes to keep them from getting damaged. The box arrived at my home, ripped open and both sidepipes were damaged on both ends.
UPS picked them up to review whether or not the damage was caused by them and then shipped them back to JHC to be stripped and recoated.
Well, after numerous phone calls to JHC to find out where my pipes were, last week I received them and guess what? Packaged the same old way in just bubble wrap and not styrofoam wrapped ends as I suggested.
One pipe still has the ends of it "out of round" and there is now an additional crimp in the pipe tip. I tried to prevent the damage and look what happens. JHC's then recoats the pipes without fixing the damage they caused.
I will now be using Airborn Coatings from here on out.

John, I've had the same problems lately. My customer's sidepipes are on their 3rd trip to Jet Hot. Dented, coating thin in areas, scratched, Filled with their cleaning beads. I spent an hour trying to get those out. Their customer service man (Bob) gave me the excuse of only being with the company for 2 months so he's can't be held responsible for past performance. It's real easy for them to say ship it back but it's a pain in the butt. I've started using M&R coatings. They've done nice work at about half the cost. I'm also done with Jet Hot.

On this subject, is there a touch up paint/coating that I can buy to touch up a few spots. Pipes are ceramic silver coated.

Jerry, You can buy a ceramic type coating from the Eastwood company that you apply with a brush. I don't know how good a color match you will get. Maybe someone else knows of a different solution.

Guys,
I did my own coatings and am happy with the results. I got the materials from Tech Line
in Texas. www.techlinecoatings.com
Cermakrome is the metallic ceramic coating like Jet Hot and others use. It is a bit of work to apply, but it holds up well and looks great. I did all my small brackets in my oven at home, and for my headers and pipes I used a local powdercoaters oven. I put the Black header coat over the cermakrome on the headers and pipes. Just be sure to oven cure it, and then run the engine till they just start to smoke, shut it off for a while, and repeat until you don't get any smoke from the coating. This dries the solvents out gradually, preventing blistering.
I ran pretty hard at Cobrafest and the coating still looks perfect so far.
You know the saying, If you want something done right, do it yourself.
Later,
David

Don,
Yeah Bob Briggs in Pascagoula, Mississppi..."ONLY BEEN HERE TWO MONTHS!"
I tried to repair it on my own, but did not have the right tools. I finally had my metal fabricator fix the pipe...at additional cost to me. They had managed to dent the pipe in UNDERNEATH the tab that bolts the sidepipe to the header...by far....THE worst possible place to damage the pipe.
What realy pisses me off is that after they damaged the pipe, I returned them and I heard nothing for almost a month. I told them how to package the pipe and send it to me. Bob Briggs said, "Those are good points, I'll make sure I follow this procedure with all Cobra pipes from here on out".....The package arrives 2 weeks later...packaged the same old way...WITH MORE DAMAGE!!!!!
The beauty of JHC's old operation was I could drive down to PA, drop off and pick up the pipe.
I AM CONVINCED THAT IS THE ONLY REAL WAY TO AVOID DAMAGE.
From here on out, I will drive to Airborn in CT.
JET HOT....YOU HAVE LOST MY BUSINESS FOR LIFE!!!!!

My Jet Hot Coating on one of my header pipes has pealed off almost the entire length! I guess they must have forgot to prep the tube before they applied the coating. I was contemplating sending it back to them since I only have 700 miles on it, but now I'm afraid to. Maybe I can find a vault to send it in, but it sounds like they would lose it and send me back my header wrapped in tissue paper. I'm not looking forward to this one.
Thanks for the information
Kevin

The fun continues: I sent my customers side pipes for the 3rd time to Jet Hot because of light areas (they are black) and other problems as stated earlier. Bob called today and said they can find no problem, the coating looks fine to him and his quality dept. Beyond the dents and scratchs they must be blind not to see a light area on a black surface. Since this is the 3rd time, I told them to re-coat in the silver color because they had 2 chances to make the black correct and couldn't. Since they can't find a problem they want to charge an extra $100 for the color change. This ticks me off to no end. I had to deliver the customer car last week, so of course it needed sidepipes, I had to install a new painted set on his car. Now I'll be stuck with a used set of sidepipes when his come in and the chance I will have to pay $100 more on the old pipes. It's hard to sell a $400 set of used sidepipes as new. I love Jet Hot's customer service. If I worked this way I would have been belly up long ago. What happened to the days of customer satisfaction. Jet Hot needs to look at their new location and find the problem. I'm so happy to see the competition on their tails, I know their quality will win. Another lost Jet Hot customer.

Don,
I told them about Club Cobra and how was the administrator for the Consumer Watch Forum on the website. After offering them my honest opinions on how to ship theses sidepipes to all enthusiasts, I figured if I was not satisfied with the second attempt I would let the contigent of 1100 members know.
Now, look at the numbers...1100 CC members spending an average of $350 with Jet Hot may equate to $385,000 of lost revenue if they don't change their way.

I used Airborne also with great results. I hand carried the headers, J-pipes and side pipes to them. Most satisfied with the results.
When you don't have any options, then you have to tread lightly. However, with more companies providing this service, screw em. That's the beauty of a free market system.

They decided to do the pipes for no charge (how nice of them). They said I was to picky because there was not a quality problem. They will re-do the black pipes in silver. What I found out is they coat the pipes with the ceramic material, then, they have a special black paint to cover the ceramic. What a waste of money. I can paint the pipes for $4. You have the benefit of the ceramic but the black will need to be touched up all the time. If I would have known this I wouldn't have had them done in black. They need to comunicate with their customers. Unless Bob has his head up his butt and doesn't know what he's talking about. I was accused of scratching and denting the pipes, since they always plug the end of the pipes there is no way they could have been full of cleaning beads. Their solution is to let them burn out. I love having to take abuse from a supplier. I wonder how long I have to wait to get them back. It's only been about 6 months since this all began.

Some additional info here, no defense of the indefensible intended.
A couple of months ago I was talking to Russ Meeks at Finish Line Coatings in Portland, Or.
I was trying to decide whether or not to have the exhaust system for my 32 Ford done in silver or black. I had heard black ceramic did not hold up well. Russ allowed as how they had had quite a bit of problems with it and had tried several formulations to get one they could stand behind. They quit doing black for some time, but finally (they think) have a solution. Their work is top notch and they are concerned about quality, so I suspect they have a high confidence level in the new product.
I ended up going with the silver mainly because I already had HPC coated manifolds in silver.

Hey Guys, I have been around this coating thing forever and started out with Jet Hot, and went through the nasty problems you have. I finally (after being more than disgrunted) spent some time finding a better solution. As I wasn't satisfied with the sheen that was on the Jet Hot Coatings, and needed something with more luster, an engine friend of mine suggested I contact Lenord Warren owner of Techline Coatings, in Waxahachie, TX. (in earlier in this thread). Either Lenord or Ken his right hand man can turn you on to their coatings or supply you with information. Now for the good part, I found a wonderful coater that uses the techline system--that knows how to pack the parts he ships!!!!! He does a LARGE volume of COBRA sidepipes and headers. He is Bruce of MicroCoat in Santa Rosa, CA. (707) 578-4010. Since I live in the boonies and have everything to ship out and in I know of what I speak on using those that know how to pack so my parts are not damaged in trasnit. Mad Dog

Hi all,
All the threads I read here talk about the Jet Hot shop in Mississippi area. There is more than one JHC shop. I used the Tempe,AZ shop last year and received my pipes back, double wrapped in bubble with an extra sheet on the ends, in less than a month. The pipes were perfect, no blemishes in the silver color. They did my headers,J-pipes and sidepipoes for about $500. I'm not sure why the other JHC has such a bad track record but if you really want their work then I would suggest using the AZ locale.
Thanks, Phil

Guys, I used Southern Competition Coatings
380 N. Court Street, Bronson, FL 32621
(352) 486-6536 for my 5 year old headers,
side-pipes, and tips. The cost for cleaning
and coating the whole set in Metallic
Ceramic Coating (Satin Black) was $220.00
and turn time was 4 days. My tubes are STILL flawless 2000 miles later. Steven Conner's
shop offers the best bang for buck out there.

THIS IS AN UPDATE.....
Well members,
In case you don't remember, way back when I think in March, I had a problem with Jet Hot screwing up my sidepipes.
After two attempts, the pipes were damaged in transit both times. At this point, I gave up and vented my concerns on this forum.
Well, I am happy to say that on Thursday I received a phone call from a representative of Jet Hot. They had heard about my problems.
How? They read about it right here on CLUB COBRA!!!!!! Needless to say, the gentleman that I spoke to the other day (Chris) had been scanning the Net and found our website. He read the thread (located on the Consumer Forum) and showed it to the owner of Jet Hot....He was NOT pleased with what he read. In fact he was so disappointed, the owner was going to call me personally to apologize.
But, instead of that he is doing the following:
- Refunding (credit to my Credit card) the full value of my order...totaling over $500!!!!
- Has fired the manager of operations in Missisippi.
- And had decided to move the operations BACK to Bridgeport, PA.
I am happy that this story has a happy ending. Jet Hot may also be getting in touch with other members of this forum to speak about their problems as well.
I would personally like to thank Chris and the owners of Jet Hot for acknowledging that their was a problem with their operation and not only correcting it but also making good with their existing customer base. MY HAT IS OFF TO YOU FOR STEPPING UP TO THE PLATE!!!!
In addition, I would like to add, that this shows the power of the Internet when used properly. I feel that this forum is now making a difference with the businesses that we deal with.
AGAIN...THANK YOU JET HOT...YOU'VE WON ME BACK!!!!

A comment about Jet Hot. I live in the Allentown, PA area and saw these posts. A friend of mine had this very same experience and after I printed the posts, his comments are as follows:
"I have read your comments on Club Cobra & I have had the same problems. I had sent the pipes out of Bridgeport, PA & they were shipped to Mississippi. Upon receiving them back, they were dented and badly damaged. I called Bridgeport (BP) and returned the pipes. They were shipped back a second time still damaged. I called MS and spoke with Bob Briggs. He assured me they would be corrected. They were shipped again and after 3 weeks I called and they said they were lost. Finally they did arrive and were still damaged. At that point I gave up and resigned myself to the fact that if I ever saw a rep. at a car show they would get an earfull about the terrible job they had done. I then read the posts and called JHC again. I spoke with Woody in MS and he informed me that the BP facility was now in operation and I should take the pipes there. With Woodies help the pipes were redone and recoated, and now look like new pipes and are very well done. All of this was done at no charge. I thank Woody and all of the people at JHC in Bridgeport, PA."
My friend is happy thanks to the power of this club site. The pipes look great on his new B & B Cobra.

Well Em sent my sidepipes out to be recoated, they went to.....Mississippi. No they did not shut down that operation. How did my pipes come out like s--t. I told EM not to even send them to me, and advised them not to pay and told them about this thread. John I guess the owner not only does crappy work but he also lies. Beware people Jet Hot Coatings.
