Question Insurance question

Anyone know anything about a company called "American International Group" doing business as "AIG"?

I got a mailer from them and on a whim I called about a quote.
(For my regular cars, not including the Cobra.)

They are about 45% less than my current rate on my Explorer, Race trailer, and Motorhome. This sounds almost too good.

I wonder if they're one of those companies who quotes a great rate the first year or two, then starts jacking them up after you've switched.

Any experience would be appreciated.

Thanks,

you might check with the BBB or your state attorney general. I have heard of them, although do not know anything about them.

Cobranut,
I probably shouldn't say this, since they are my companies' competition, but AIG is one of the largest insurers in the country. They do a lot of commercial insurance, but are starting to branch more heavily into the auto market. I don't know much about their marketing or underwriting strategies (although I have friends who work for them and could probably find out), but they are a solid company with a good reputation.

Steve,

Your honesty is refreshing. I have had my insurance with Great Americian since they bought out the other one I was with and have been completely satisfied with their coverage. I know there are some good companies out there and I can understand after reading so many posts about over powered cars and claims why it is getting harder for new people to get coverage on Cobras.

Thanks for the info guys.
I did a little research and their financials look sound.
I still don't know anything about their marketing practices though.
I'm a little hesitant to leave the company I've been getting good service from for the past 10 years, but AIG is quoting nearly half the premium savings.
Keep in mind, this is not on the Cobra, but on other vehicles.

Thanks again,
