Thumbs down Alex Bullock, Scammer?

Anybody know this guy...possible auto broker...uh huh

By raise of hands, how many of you think that this isn't a scam? Anyone know who to contact..FBI, local police?

Background, I sort of put my car up for sale on this forum. Got a reply from "Alex" who claims to represent a buyer in Switzerland. After a quick couple of very basic questions, I get this response:

"Hello Ron Rowberry,
Good to hear from you, Thanks for your prompt mail.I have been able to convince my client and he has agreed to pay your price. He would also like some recent pics too. My client has agreed to make out payment in a cashier check of $89,000 which is a refund payment of a cancelled order earlier made by my client's wife who is his marketing rep. Due to company policy this check has to be made out in this amount to you, because company policy only allows a refund payment on one cashier check. You are therefore required to deduct your cost price $80,000 and send the balance of $9,000 to my client's shipper agent in the US via Western union money transfer or moneygram transfer for him to be able to offset shipping charges and acquire space in time for shipping .His information will be provided for you as soon as you comfirm reciept of payment.

After payment has reached you and balance sent back to the shipper, our agent will come for pick up and drive to the prepaid shipper to be shipped to my client, while title papers and other necessary documents will be sent by you via courier to him .Please Confirm this and provide your name, address and phone number so that payment will get to you in due course. The earlier you provide your information, the earlier payment will be forwarded to you.

Note: The payment must clear the bank before the balance is sent to the shipper.

Regards to your family
Thanks and God Bless.
Alex bullock "

So, does anyone here think that this is not a scam?

Beware.

There was a great story on This American Life in September about a group of "Scambaiters" who run an elaborate con on some Nigerian scammers.

If you get a chance, listen to Act 1 "Hanging in Chad" on episode 363. Click on the full episode button to the left of the story. Hilarious!

"Three guys who go by the names Professor So and So, Jojobean and YeaWhatever spend part of each day running elaborate cons on Internet scammers. They consider themselves enforcers of justice, even after they send a man 1400 miles from home, to the least safe place they can bait him: the border of Darfur. The three self-made enforcers tell Ira their story."

I say, tell the guy ok and then tell them that you are going to start a seperate account at your bank just to deposit that check to and hold on to it until it really clears or does not. Tell them that you will not release the car until your bank says that it is ok. Tell them that it will not be for at least 60 days. See how long it is before they break contact with you.

I already told him that I felt that this was a scam and not to bother contacting my email, he would be blocked.

For fun, I said he could explain himself via ClubCobra...doubt we'll ever hear from him again.

And on Christmas day, too.

Shame shame shame.
