Contemporary S/C to Street version

I was never a big fan of the s/c version but street versions were hard to find.
So I have converted the car to a street version. Is there any cast iron manifolds available for the 427 FE side oiler?

The manifolds are the critical factor in a street version, changing the roll bar, hood, scoop and filling in the outlet for the sidepipes on the fibreglass are easy to do but, will require a repaint of the entire body to look right. The old iron manifolds are very restrictive so a new design tube header is the solution.

I have researched this for the Shelby round tube frame but, not familiar with the Contemporary chassis. The issue is how you run the headers down and then back under the car, placement of the mufflers, welded tabs to secure everything tight and heat shielding under the floor etc.

The SPF street roadster comes with all of this sorted out but, only for the small block windsor motor, when you order the shelby version you get sidepipes and must fabricate a field solution (SAI Direct Words), for the conversion you are asking about there are few solutions or you need to fabricate your own unless you have a local craftsman that can undertake that aspect of the project.

Here is link to a series of picture of a David Wager car one pic is of the passenger side but the driver side is much more complicated with the pedal box etc. and a narrow path for the exhaust. This is an Aluminum Kirkham car, David also provides an Aluminum slab side version.

Three grand for two mini-headers? That's nuts. Buy a bender and a small mig setup and make your own.

I tried to use stock exhaust manifolds on my car and they just dont work......
the 428 mustang manifolds might fit but they are kind of expensive.....
i had a set of tube headers made for $300 bucks because nobody makes
a block hugger style header for the FE motors........

I'm also making street headers and other nice street touches like dash.

I think that I will stick with the side pipes as it seems like a difficult
task to convert. There isn't much room in the front for small headers
and with the goodyear bb's out back there's little room over the wheels.
What did contemporary do when people ordered a street version?
The dash is another problem, my car has a heater where the glove box should be (we need the heater here in Canada). The hood scoop is gone as is the waffle maker gas cap.

I placed vinyl decal on the white stripe in order to hide it but I just wasn't convinced on red.

The street exhaust is easier on a CCX than a CSX as they don't have upper control arms on the rear to loop up over. So it's getting a Ceandess filler cap too? I also have them and fill necks and tubes to go with them 289 ones coming soon. Looking good.

Racco is that your 308 GTS in the background ? Don't give up on the street version , it does look better and quieter and safer and I will probally do the same so then I can bother you with questions lol

Theres nothing wrong with keeping the side pipes but if you are going to do all that body work you might as well fill in the holes for the side pipes and run under car exhaust if thats what you want.........
mine runs outside the frame and loops up and over the rear axle inside the rear wheel well and out the back.......if you go to my profile you can see the pics.
I always liked the look of a street car also and my body man screamed when i told him i wanted the inside of the hood the body color......he said it was the hardest hood he had ever done to get the curve done properly....it turned out great...

The hood consumed may hours of work, the hood has mutiple curves.
I painted the car a ferrari medium blue.

Nice, im close Brampton, did you just get the car recently? and got to say you work quick, already painted, and it looks great.

1 question, are you still going to use the side pipes or under car exhaust?

The side pipes are going to stay, I will have the pipes coated in black so that they don't stand out as much. The major revisions were the gas cap and the hood scoop. The car had an internal roll hoop like the fia 289 cars which was removed upon the arrival of the car.
