broken rear control arm..help
yes thats right 4th ride in our new cobra and the rear driver side control arm cracked is and making the wheel rub ever so slightly on the body.the wheel is about 1 inch forward.. where do i get a new one or do i have it reworked? the car has a jag rear end. are the control arms jag or cc? i need help bad....thanks..

Ask for Mike and tell him exactly the series rear you have and measurements of your control arm.
DO NOT drive it like that.

The control arms are Jaguar series ? XKE. Mine are series I but I guess some others have different configurations. If Charles' info doesn't work, try XK's Unlimited. THey've always had everything I needed or knew where I could find it. http://www.xks.com/

THANKS...yea i pulled over and called a dust pan to pick us up. thanks for the info. i will post pictures tonight. the crack is from 10 to 7 on the tube it did not break all the way around. is it normal for a crack to cause such a large shift in the wheel? it pulled almost one inch forward. has anybody else had this happen? again thank you all so much for the help.

They don't usually run control arms on the Jag rear ends in CCX's. It's either a Watts linkage or nothing. A control arm would have to be looong on these to not break. Some of the early cars (looks like your # is early) tried a control arm that didn't work and they discontinued it.

Don't drive and replace both arms
seeda This is the 3 or 4th car I have seen or heard about having lower control arms breaking. The welding was not right. 2 I have seen, the welds where not deep enought between the tube and mounting support. 1 the lower tube crack along the bottom, and the other snapped off a mounting point at the hub.
CWI has billet rear control arms if you want some flash. They also just came out with a tube arm that has toe adjustments and weights about 1/2 of what the old arm weights.
Replaced both arms and have happy drives. Rick L.

Mick, I think you mean "trailing arm". The reference here I believe, is the link under the halfshaft, connecting the diff bracket and the hub carrier.

I was looking at his early number and thinking it was a trailing arm or radius rod issue. If the lower control arm has cracked it may well be a modified (shotened) arm that has issues. The E-type width ones started to get hard to find so they were chopping them down from XJ6 or whatever. The only way to shorten those arms is the right way like ERA does it. These guys have all given good advice and understand if that breaks the suspension collapses with horrendous results. I have an original E-type lower control arm here if that will help you.

a big thanks to you all for the words of wisdom. i really was stressed about this but you all have calmed me down. all of the links have been helpful and a will be ordering a new set of control arms today. thanks again.

just a note about my car. i sent the broken control arm the era. not only were they helpful they turned my order around in 4 days! now just have to get the new gas tank in and we will be up and running again! thanks for all the help from my fellow ccx owners.

It's interesting that the Contemporary arm was about 1" longer than what we use. (We had to modify our welding jig.) Is the rear track on the Contemporary wider than ERA's 56.6"? The ERA uses the original wheel's 3.5" backspacing.

Hey Bob CCX is consistent with E type at about 52 1/4" flange to flange.

We have always used the Series I E-type length. Perhaps Seeda's are Series II, which are a bit longer.
