An update on the funds: some of the funds have been sent to 767 so he would have them available for the heads when he finds the right set. I still have about $1,350 in the paypal account plus $350 in cash for other items.
Let's get this thing done so he can drive it!

This was from 8/8/11, what's the latest on Doug's car?
Thanks.

... and this thread is now over a year old, too. Even the ERA "waiting list" isn't that bad.

I had hoped we would see a successful completion in a relatively short period of time. We raised a pretty good amout of money and many many cool and essential parts were donated. Not sure how or why the focus was lost. It would be great to see 767jocky in his car and driving with a smile on his face before the end of this year!!!

From what I have read on this post, the main wait is for the correct parts, for the perfect car, at an affordable price. As you can see, that does not seem to be working out very well.
I am sure that Doug wants certin things in/on his car, BUT, wouldn't it be better to have a car that you can drive rather than wait or all of the "perfect" parts.
JMHO, but I could be wrong.
BTW Doug, How are you doing/feeling?

Ed,
Please keep us posted if there is something we can do to help keep the project moving along … I know that you would like to see Doug driving his Cobra, just as much, if not more than the rest of us.

Hi, Terry - I'm actually not doing too bad right now. It could certainly be a lot worse so I'm happy with that. As for the car, things are where they were, more or less. I scour the ads regularly for an inexpensive pair of heads, beside that the parts are more or less in place. DV tells me that there are many boxes of parts that many of you shipped over to his place, I have no idea what's there to tell you the truth. DV hasn't had an opportunity to go through them yet. I'm certainly not holding out for perfection on the car or the parts that go in it. A friend thinks he may have an old cast iron set of Ford FE heads that can be re-worked to fit the engine. He's not feeling all that well either, however once he's up and about he's planning on scouting his parts supply to see if they're in there and I'll purchase them from him once he finds them. I'll take whatever heads I can afford. These seem to be fine to me if he has them.
In looking at the reasons the car is not done, the weather was really bad out at DV's place all winter, and so far this year thankfully his shop has been busy with jobs that pay his bills. DV is making hay while the opportunity is there, and certainly rightfully so. I wouldn't have it any other way. Once all the timelines and weather factors fall into place, he'll jump on the car and get it done. As always, I remain so thankful and grateful to all for their amazing generosity on this project, I'm patiently and gratefully waiting for it all to come together while getting the health picture as cleared up as can be. Thanks again to all!

My recommendation is to make a full court press and get the damn car done (with the exception of the heads). as soon as they come in, pop them on and be done with it. Are we moving on this or not. If this were corporate America, . . jobs would be on the line to say the least.
Ever hear the expression "You can pay anyone to give you excuses". We need to find a way to succeed!!!!! Not sure where the holdup is, but if commitments were made and the full awareness of Club Cobra is behind this, we collectively need to put all the multitude of reasons for failure behind us and make this happen.
I am in Virginia and no longer retired, or I would go wherever the damn car is and wrench it myself.

Agreed. The car's gonna break down anyway (they all do)... so just get it together as best it can go and get it out on the road. Come on....

Old 390 junkyard heads costing next to nothing will probably last for 20,000 miles as is, right off the car and produce at least 350 - 400 hp. I would take that any day over no Cobra at all !!!! What good will the car do for Doug if he is 87 when he gets it? Just build it and let him enjoy it. If he is like the rest of us, he is gonna want to mod it over time anyway.

Thanks Doug for the update.
Your car is yours and it is really not for me to say what you should do or not do. Just giving my thoughts.
Keep in touch once in a while.

This is why I asked for an update. DV( no offense intended) seems to be busy with other things of greater priority and Doug's car is just sitting while his days tick on past towards a point where his health may preclude him from ever enjoying it. Even if its waiting on parts, you don't have to have every part to be working.

Hi,
I thought I'd update you on Doug and mine's visit to the Goodwood Revival last weekend.
Unfortunately, Doug's other commitments meant that he could only stay for the Revival, so it was a bit of a flying visit as he had to be back home for Tuesday.
I picked Doug up from the airport at 7:00am on Thursday and we drove the short distance to my home for breakfast before loading the cars up for the 150 mile drive to Goodwood. My wife was taking all the luggage and equipment down in our Range Rover, before going on to spend the weekend with her parents, which meant the Cobra was pretty empty.
A flat battery on the Range Rover due to a cool box being left turned on meant that we were a little late getting away, but we eventually arrived at Goodwood at around 5:00pm, just as a pair of Spitfires were going through their display over the race course.
The roads were pretty busy on the way down, but we were able to stretch teh Cobra's legs on a few occasions and once we got off the motorways, the roads through the country were and villages were very scenic, with plenty of other "classics" heading in the same direction.
We pitched up on the campsite next to a couple of guys with a beautiful 1928 4½ litre "Blower" Bentley in British Racing Green. At the time, we thought it was a bit of a rarity, but it became a bit of an "in" joke as there were at least a dozen more of them in the "Classic" car park over the weekend.
Friday was warm and sunny and after getting breakfast in the NAAFI marquee, we had a great day watching the practices and qualifying for the various races on Saturday and Sunday.
We met up with some other members of The 289 Register for dinner on the Friday evening and Doug was keen to sample some British fish & chips. The plan was to drive into nearby Chichester and find a chip shop, but instead, I managed to blag a table at the Goodwood House Hotel restaurant, which apparently, had been booked up for at least 6 months prior to the event. As it turned out, fish & chips were on the menu, so we all had that, although Doug wasn't too keen on mushy peas.
I'll let Doug pick it up from here if he wishes. If he doesn't, I'll come back and tell you about the racing.
Paul

He "looked" fine, but he is having a rough time from the recurring after-effects of the treatment and he was pretty worn out by the end of the weekend.
It was really great to meet Doug and spend some time with him. He's a great guy and can't even begin to express his full appreciation for everything that the CC members have done for him.

Glad Doug was able to escape for some Good wood fun, I am envious. A few of use had talked about flying over this year but business dictated other wise.
On the subject o this thread, could someone please update us on the progress of getting Doug's car finished?
