I made the WRONG assumption that Rick was just going to drop his trailer, I would hook up and come to Pentwater with the Cobra and parts, then return it to Akron when the car was done.

Rick also explained how much work has been done on the car and how much is left.....seems it is basically painted and thats it, Steering isn't in, must be steered by grabbing the wheels. No problem at all but getting the car done by Christmas (what I was shooting for) seems out of the question.

Botom line; ANYONE have an enclosed trailer I can use from Akron to Pentwater, until Spring would be great but we'll take anything we can get! Or does someone know of any trailer rental places in the area of either Pentwater or Akron?

DOUG: I've been trying to list all the donated parts and get pictures for you....well that hasn't happened yet, BUT it will soon! Sorry, just trying to get caught up completely in the shop before your car gets here!

Hope all is going well Fella! You WILL be driving this monster soon!

(One glitch!!?? Unheard of!)
Hi, Ed. Sorry for the delayed response. The chemo has been kicking me pretty hard. Sorry about the trailer mixup, that's probably my fault. I just assumed that you had one. I wonder if one can be rented one way in Akron for the trip back? I don't know what else to do about that, I don't have one. The steering on the car is about the only suspension piece in the car that isn't installed, all the rest of the suspension is done. It needs the dash installed and the wiring completed, and the powertrain installed, I guess the rest is just hooking up all the various bits - radiator, oil cooler and lines, fuel pump and lines, etc...I guess there will need some fabrication to be done with regard to the aluminum shrouding in the nose for the radiator and oil cooler. The last thing that I want you to feel Ed is rushed or that you have a deadline. I am so indescribably appreciative of what you're doing....please take all the time you need. DCDoug sent me a check for the money raised by check from everyone here on Club Cobra, and he still has the paypal account minus whatever has been spent from it. Between the two hopefully the trailer costs can be covered to get the car to your place. I'll worry about how to get the car to Houston when that wonderful time comes. That'll be a terrific problem to have, no? (-:

Thanks so much, Ed and to everyone, I can't tell you how much I appreciate this. Also, a HUGE thank you to Rick Lake. Rick, and everyone, I will never forget your kindness. You guys are unbelievable. This whole thing is unbelievable! Thanks to Rick, to Ed, and to all of you!
Doug

Doug,
A second minor glitch, midnight last night I got a call from Rick, he was stuck in PA with a mechanical problem. I was already in Columbus waiting for his arrival in the AM. (Obviously you know I did find a trailer!) Rick called me again about 8AM said he was "Muscelling" his rig back the last 100 miles to his place.

Diane and I are going to head back to Pentwater until Rick can get his truck repaired, then when we reset the schedule we'll do it all over again!

No big deal fella, stuff happens. Now we just want to do this again before the Pentwater winter sets in!

It will just give you a little more time to get on your feet so if you have a mind you can fly up to Pentwater and do some work on your Cobra!

Just so you know Diane & I will be very disappointed if you wont stay with us! May not be quite the accommodations you are used to but I promise the bed doesn't sag to much, nor are the bugs big enough to carry you away this time of year!

More to come!

DV

Thanks, Ed. Sorry 'bout that, Rick had the steering pump shaft snap in half, so he got his rig back to NJ to get it repaired and then he's planning on getting in touch with you to set up another date. I'm just pleased as punch that this is happening at all, so dates mean little to me. I'm so darned appreciative for all that you guys are doing. On some of the tougher nights I just lay and think about one day driving this thing and that's enough to lift my spirits and keep me going. Thanks so very much to you, Rick, Doug, Ed and everyone involved. What an incredible group you all are.

Rick, Ed, and others,

I wish I lived closer so I could come and rescue Rick. He has done so much for so many over the years and I doubti if he is done yet. Keep the faith he will make it soon.

Doug, Etc.,
Rick apparently has his truck fixed and I assume his warranty work on his trailer done. We are now shooting for the 15th of November. We both have full 1 ton 4x4 duallies so small to minor snow fall shouldn't bother either one of us. My only concern is the North West Michigan Grand Rapids to Pentwater area will be passible hauling a trailer that time of year. We'll see.....??

Default How are things progressing

Ed (DV) is the Ship date of 11/15 still on.

All involved, . . . . How are things progressing with funds, parts, etc etc. I believe that Doug (767Jockey) is looking into Edelbrock heads. The heads and the shipping of the car itself will be the biggest hit to his fund. Hope people are still reading this thread and donating to the cause if they have not done so already.

What are the chances of having the car completed for Doug by spring??? Anyone have any insights?? Doug?? DV???

Cobra Ed, etc.,
As far as I know of the 15th is the target date. I have boxes and boxes of parts, all of which aren't opened yet. Once Rick gets the car/parts that he has to me, I will be able to do a much better inventory of what is needed/wanted.

I have a 28 yr old Ford Master Tech. to assemble the motor and wire Doug's car. (I can wire but why when you have a real pro waiting in the wings?) He is also ready to assemble the motor but would like some help from some of the FE guys around here. He knows there are tricks to that trade and he is a little young to know them. (At least he admits to his limitations! )

Once I get the car here, I will lay out all the parts that have come in so we can all assess the goddies.

Done by Spring? It had better be !

CobraEd,
I had to have Doug get into the fund for a week long rental of an enclosed trailer. Feel like crap about that, but I'm a bit short these days. As far as I know of Rick has the motor and I will bring it up with the car and Doug's parts.(I was hoping to keep it until the Finished Cobra was ready to go back to Rick (?) but, the guy needs his trailer this winter. )

From my point no other funds have been used here!

I know there are more to come; heads, gaskets, pulley's, oil cooler(?), (lines?)

??????

I know Doug is much more appreciative of all donations than can be typed! But be careful he might overwhelm you with "Thank You's!"

Ed, not clear on the need for the trailer if the car is not there. Is it for you to go get the car or for storage at your place?

Thanks
Ed

OK,

I sold my enclosed goose neck a few years ago-now traileress. Rick has picked up Dougs Cobra from the East Coast and is bringing it to Columbus, Oh. where I have arranged to rent an enclosed trailer. Rick and I are going to unload/re-load the Cobra into my rented trailer. From there I will bring it to Pentwater and Back* when completed. (*Where ever back is?)

(I'm hoping a friend of mine, who is looking for an enclosed trailer for his Cobra will buy this one so there wont be a re-rental fee!)

I thought Rick was taking it directly to you. Well, . . . good luck. Be careful with the transfer

Default Bringing it half way

Rick's truck snapped the P/S pump shaft and was left on the side of the road in PA. Was able to get home without steering or brakes on the truck. The only nice thing about driving at 2:00a.m. to 4:00 a.m. in the morning, no traffic. EVO valve was junked when the pump shaft snapped and killed the valve. I tryed to fix it on the side of the road but had no pressure to the systems when done. I carryed a spare p/s pump, alt, water pump, complete distributor, and gaskets for the intake. If anything else goes, I am towing it home.
Anyway I am going to meet Ed on the 15 of Nov in Columbus and hope there are no other problems and that Ed doesn't have a foot of snow to remove from his house and garage. Thats about all for now. Talked to Doug the other night. Cemo is kicking his butt, but is done for now and is hoping to start feeling better soon. He thanked me about 10 times again. I think my ear is starting to fall off. Anyway He hopes to have a chance and MAYBE be flying again in the spring, weather it be in the skys or on the ground in the cobra. It's something he is looking forward too. Rick L.

I've told Rick, DV and Ed that this is just incredible that the ball is rolling on this project. I can't tell you all what a lift this has given me on days and weeks where I just feel terrible from the treatment, I just think for an hour at a time about the car, what I'd like to do with it, little tweaks to make, wondering how original I can make it look without causing DV extra work or killing the budget.

Ed, are you up to doing a build thread so all the guys can see whats happing with the car? (and me too !!!!!)

I think all the major pieces have been assembled except for the heads. I keep looking for used Edelbrock heads to try to fit into the budget, but the used ones I've seen are usually only $100 or so less than new ones. I'll keep waiting until something good pops up, and all I'm really gambling by waiting is the $100 discount for the used ones that I've seen. Worse comes to worse I have to buy new ones from somewhere. I wrote to Ed (CobraEd) earlier that when I was much younger I had all kinds of contacts in speed shops and I even knew someone who worked at Edelbrock "back in the day". He's long gone now, but what a plus it would be if I still knew him!

Oh well, one of the many bad parts of getting old. I may be the only one on this forum that's actually looking forward to the chance of continuing to get old! That would mean that I beat this darned disease, I hope one day to be a crotchety old man telling my grandkids about this neat blue Cobra that an amazing group of guys finished building for me. Thanks to all of you, I am really looking forward to the 15th. You guys are awesome, each and every one of you.

If the difference between used and new is only $100, I'd get the new ones both for peace of mind and to cross one more item off your list.

Doug,

Not to worry about making too much work for me! Simply put "you can't!". The one thing I do worry about is you not saying anything trying to save work! Money, that's up to you but leave the fun / details to me and the crew.

And, by the way its SOP around here for me to take more photo's and descriptions of assembly procedures than the History Channel would use. I usually go way past the norm, in fact I think I bore some guys with the many details!

You can download what information/pictures I post or I can burn everything at the end putting it on a disc for those grand kids you can bore to tears with someday!

WOW!
I think.."Motorhead" just posted a link to some re-done heads while I was posting the above. Don't know, but certainly looks like a phone call may be in order?
