I'm struggling to get the idea off the ground with my wife too at the moment. "What do you want another Cobra for? You've got one in the shed already!" Or words to that effect.

"But it's got a 427 motor in it!" just doesn't seem to be working as a counter argument.

Default Cobra make/side oiler block

That is a jag xke torsion suspension and the frame from what I can see is a Contemporary. The block looks like a 427 side oiler service block. They put those ribs in the castings to strengthen an area that became weak as the tools aged. To my knowledge, all 427's were high nickel content with a square profile cylinder wall to compensate for how thin the FE block gets when overbored for 427 cu in.

Hi Mike,
A couple of cars I was considering importing during my search, the ERA looks as though it may have sold. I was just a little concerned about possible legislative changes during "sitting on it" waiting for it to come of age.

FYI I bought a Contemporary from Peter Bayer in 1986 it was a torsion bar front end as there was no option in 86.

My car had no CCX prefex only four digits #3212

The photo you showed is definitely a Contemporary

There are plenty opportunities in buying Ac Cobra projects on American ebay and other websites but I think our fathers in Canberra make it hard to import.

Considering upto 1500 units of Ac cobra Kits are manufactured and sold in the USA you are sure to pick up a BARGAIN.

For example- I just spotted on Ebay a 1957 AC Cobra built in the 70's or 80's with a Jaguar E type front(torsional bar is fitted and is give way that it is E TYPE) and rear end and I have pulled the pin as I have been told that the Import Approval would be DENIED even though the car is a non runner and was previously registered.

This information was supplied by shipper out of CA USA.

I have sent a email to the Vehicle Import Department in Canberra for clarification.

I have perused the Federal Government infracture list of exemptions as to the list of vehicles that are exempt and are regarded as Special interest vehicles.

I have noted one manufacturer and it is Robnell which has a exemption back in 2002 but he is out of the export business.

Robnell did make AC Cobra's (LHD) with the view of Exporting to the States but from my memory it went pear shape.

I would be interested to know how we can get around this restriction and like you to elborate on the exemption rule for cars built prior to 1989?

For what it's worth:
I had 3080 with the same front suspension in South Africa. It was registered as 1987.

If this '68 Side Oiler has the "small" rods, I strongly advise to replace them.
I had one coming through the block. Trust me, not a nice sight...

The frame appears to be an early Contemporary, possibly 81. It would be nice to see the rear of the frame in front of the driveshaft.
