Default Electrical

Since I've had the CCX cobra (1 1/2 years) there has been a constant problem with my left indicator and brake light not working and the fuel gauge not reading correctly (only reading 1/4 tank when full). I checked all the wiring, the grounds and the bulbs and can't seem to find the problem. the car was built in 1997 could the indicator stalk be the problem? Anyone have a similar issue? I followed the wiring schematic but can't seem to trace the issue. The fuel gauge problem I thought was the sending unit due to the hole in it, which was replaced with a new unit, and still the gauge did not read correctly, installed the new Smith gauge and now it still reads a 1/4 tank when full, talked to the owner of Nisonger who said that the gauge will read the sending unit with the 0-90 ohm range. Any help would be appreciated.

Wondering if a contributing factor might be a worn ignition switch? I was having erratic fuel gauge readings, then eventualy tachometer readings, and found that jiggling the key while 'power on' or 'started' would elicit those erratic gauge behaviors. It even just started to cut the electric fan off and on upon key jiggle. So, clearly was getting progressively worse and is in the process of being replaced.

Best of luck with it! Brent

I'm on my second Contemporary, this one for eleven years. I've never had not seen one in which the fuel gage worked correctly. They seem to want to read backward. Check with Nick Acton and he can explain it.

I had fuel gauge problems with my car and come to find out the sending unit and the gauge weren't compatible. After getting a new unit and gauge that matched I have had no more problems with that. The other things I haven't experienced so the prior answers would be a good place to start.
